Kongo Kingdom ancestry in Haiti (the 2 Congos, Angola and Gabon) was more predominant in the 2nd half of the slave trade. It's said that of the African-born slaves, 2 out of 3 were from the Kongo at the time of the Revolution.
Your mom is adorable! I wasn't expecting the Spanish though. Just shows our population histories in the Caribbean are a lot more complex than we've been led to believe.
Her sassy “okayyy” took me out. I’m always here for the Haitian Pride 🇭🇹 Only Haitians take an ancestry test and be mad that Haiti not at the top lol 😂
Awesome video!!! I hope this dispels a lot of colorism! Look at her mother’s complexion and she has less European ancestry in her results than a lot of blacks who have higher European percentages. Just goes to show that phenotypes only tell a tiny piece of the story and doesn’t always reflect what you find in your DNA as one would assume. Love this! So fascinating 💕
28.7% is higher than the average amount, which is 25% for black americans!!! Anymore than that and a person is flat out biracial. Most likely, someone in her recent ancestry (parent for the mom, and grandparent for Vanessa) was biracial. 😂 Most black as a diaspora do not typically have higher than 25%.
Vanessa it’s been a long time since you posted a video. I missed watching the loving, relationship between you and your mother and your boyfriend. Did you quit RU-vid,hope and pray that all is well with you. Welcome to the year 2022.
My grandpa is from port au prince and has similar results to these He took AncestryDNA and came up as 69% sub Saharan african mainly from Benin and Togo
Nigeria on 23andme can cover Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and the Volta region of Ghana even parts of Cameroon. But mostly Nigeria proper I know many Haitians ancestors came from Benin
Absolutely, Ancestry DNA now has a feature, where if you have a Family Tree and your DNA Matches have a Family Tree, it will tell you what “family member you have in common”. I’m in the early 1730’’s.
@@ask4theupgrade359 a man literally find his biological father thanks to Ancestry Dna , an woman find she was adopted thanks to Ancestry, and i have more stories like that.
I love her mother’s whole vibe!!! Such a sweet spirit and strong pride in her country. It’s kind of cringe to see an unambiguously black person take more pride in whatever European/Asian percentage they find in their results. I’ve seen someone jump up for joy when they seen their %1 Irish portion and said they will start celebrating St. Patrick’s Day😒. We sure have a long way to go but looking at our people taking pride in our heritage is always beautiful🎉
From the USA her DNA is very similar to mine, 39% Nigerian, with Ghanaian, and other African DNA, we have more in common than we have different. My European is England and Irish adding up to 14%. This is why I don't understand the conflict between us, Haitians and Jamaicans. There's no difference except where the ships stopped.
I’m Louisiana Creole and I’m 88% African ( 30%Malian, 28% Congolese, 15% Benin Togo and some Senegalese ) Malian and Senegalese are the main African Ancestry in Louisiana Creoles and we primarily descend from francophone African (L’Afrique Francophone) countries due to separate French Slave Trade. My other 12 percent is 10% French and 2% Native Indigenous- American. My mothers side are all mulatto (that’s what they were called and what is on the census so dont come for me) Creoles/Creoles of Color) and my dad is African with NO European admixture).
Goes to show some of these caribbean people who get in comments & make a competition talking that “haitians & jamaicans” have highest african dna in the diaspora stuff aint exactly accurate..some have high (late 80s & up )dna some dont as is the case with aa ...good video with ya moms though
Lol right! I’m Louisiana creole with 88% African, 10% French and 2% Native and come from an entire line of mulatto/mixed creoles on my moms side lol. To be fair, my dad is African with no European admixture… But he’s not Haitian nor Jamaican lol…
With 28.7% European, that means that is not a slave master to slave experience, that's a last century grand parent that was hooking up with the dark sugar experience some where, mama has a European Grand Parent !
@@nightingaleofficial3604 - Exactly, because on Ancestry my friends and I, all show indigenous Haiti-DR ancestry and some from the near by islands of Cuba / PR
@@ask4theupgrade359 yup correct. I’m Haitian born and raised but I am not a native to Haiti. Mine just said Afro Haitian. I am a descendant of stolen African slaves and the colonizers , in my case my results showed 2% France/Spain. That original comment from Michou still makes me laugh.
It specifically states where in the Caribbean, even stating the township. If you know, where your parents, grandparents are from, it’ll make perfect sense to you. The DNA dates back to 1725, so if you want to go beyond that it’s following the paper trail/documents: census forms, birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, church records, etc
OH and Your Mama, she has very beautiful eyes, she is such a beautiful woman, 🥰, she seems so sweet, even if she would, "SLAP You", on the face, you should be expecting that from a black Mama, 🤣
I find it interesting that they have Spanish Portuguese listed under European. If you study and research you will find that in the 1400's there was a very large population of Black Jews that self identified as being direct descendants of the House of David from the Bible. These Black Jews were exiled from Portugal and Spain, and some left while they could, but many stayed until the Catholic Church started persecuting, torturing and killing them for the crime of Heresy. Yes the Christian Church killed these Black Jews because they wouldn't denounce their God and beliefs to become "Christian". Their children were sold into slavery, most ending up in Africa in an area under Portuguese control called the "Slave Coast". On old maps this is also labeled "Kingdom of Judah". It was also a Papule Bull or order from the Papacy that made it legal for these people to be rounded up and sold into chattel slavery in perpetuity. I know, I know. It's throwing you off because your thinking, "if we are the Jews, then who are those people over there claiming to be us"? Think about it. If we had just turned up missing these people who have the most famous book in the world wrote to them and about them, people would have went looking and they would have found us. But if no one is looking..... In case you're not picking up what I'm putting down just know this. They know who we are, but our people do not know. But this ignorance is slowly being cast off as more of us wake up to the truth.
Great video! You and your mother should come visit us on facebook and or clubhouse. We are a haitian genealogy group and we discuss dna testing as well.
