I suggest a small sheet of aluminum foil. For boiling water in an emergency. That life straw can fail in freezing temps. Other than that looks good. You covered your basic needs. Shelter. Water. Fire. Food.

Great video. Too many people pack a huge bag for a ton of “what if’s”, and if that’s the case, you’ll never end filling the bag up with items. Bring a few items for what you’ll need it for, a simple overnighter

I would consider needle and suture/thread, small magnifying glass (to remove cacti, fire starter, etc), tweezers. That is a well thought out, compact, first aid kit.

Very nice. I'd add a couple more alcohol wipes (1 isn't going to do much). I'd also add a 4 inch ACE wrap... you can support a dislocated shoulder (sling), use for stabilization of an arm fracture, or wrap a sprained/strained ankle, use as a tourniquet, or dress a bleeding wound. Very versatile.

I always wear a belt and bandana when hiking, backpacking which can be used for the above.
@gordontyree4308
@gordontyree4308 4 месяца назад
@@Bellasafariyeah, a belt or bandana is good to have, but an ACE wrap is compact, multifunctional, lightweight and much easier to use. I’d choose the ACE wrap, hands down!

Anyone with a small kit designed this way is going to do quite well in an outdoor oh crap scenario. Well done. Love it, just the simple basics and it's lightweight. Very cool.

You had it all in that kit. You may have done this a different way. I recommend an extra set of car keys be a part of a kit any time you leave your car.

Thanks for the many great videos. My favorites are the ones you demonstrate items you carry and how they are used. I loved the video where you pulled pretty much everything out of your car and showed us what you take along for most camping trips. Your demonstrations of the many items sold on your site and how you use them in your car sold me! Quite some time ago I was on your site and signed up to be notified when items were back in stock. After seeing this video tonight I was reminded that I had received several emails your things were back in stock and was able to order them - and now I was able to add this emergency kit bag too! I appreciate these tips very much! Best wishes in your travels.

I wouldn't like to rely solely on that little keyring torch, so I'd add a tealight candle, which can be used for warmth also. If it doesn't fit in the pouch, you said you were taking a backpack as well anyway 😉

A couple months ago I received your emergency bag. Thank you for making such quality products - I have many and find them all to be very well thought out, high quality materials, and well made. I dug into your video stash today to find this video, so I can refer to the items you pack in it, and look through the comments as I recall some commentators had good suggestions too. Looking forward to packing my little bag. Keep being you!

Nice kit. From the looks of it your plan is to hike out in the morning. I've participated in a number search-and-rescue missions and the one thing people should have is "find me" accessories. Your pack would have helped several people who got lost, especially the mirror, bright cloth and the ability to make a fire. A smoky fire will always get attention. I would recommend a single use aerial flare. An I always recommend for folks to tell someone where they are going and when to expect their return. Thanks for the vid.

I’d add a plastic ziploc bag with a self standing bottom, those thick ones made to hold liquids. Just in case you lose your water bottle or separated from your backpack. Edit) 2-3 1” safety pins, a compressed mini towel, few squares of toilet paper.

Just saw your video…really nice kit! A few suggestions…check out Wazoo survival. Excellent small, lightweight survival components. I would ditch the cheap, flimsy poncho and replace with SOL poncho. It’s multi purpose…poncho/shelter, orange/silver for signaling, very compact. I would add a SOL heatsheet also to replace the trash bag. Thanks for posting! Well done!

Check out the firefly inserts for your swiss army knife, it's a ferro rod that takes the place of the toothpick in the knife scales. Very light weight and mine works great. Thank you for all the videos,

PLB! (To echo another comment.) A year late to comment, but it amazes me how much money people spend on camera gear and ultralight camping stuff but go off onto the wilds without a reliable way to call for help if they don’t just sprain an ankle but break their leg. Or come across someone with advanced hypothermia. I know it a couple of hundred dollars and you hope never to use it, so it’s not exactly a fun item but you might not have cell phone reception when you need it most.

I would ditch the trash bag if you’re packing the emergency blanket. I would go for a longer ferro rod, you’ll get more sparks. Throw a Brunton glow mate compass in there - very light, reliable, and easy to find in the dark. I would also consider carrying a larger Swiss Army knife like the trekker. All in all, nice kit. I appreciate that you built your kit based on practical realities.

All your videos are great, watch them all. One thing concerns me is hiking alone when a real emergency requires an evacuation. Don’t know if you carry a personal locator beacon or not but it could save your life or someone you come across. I’ve seen it happen in the Grand Canyon. You can own or rent. Also love the drone video, how do you handle wind it always looks so calm can’t always be that calm

I plan on getting a satellite communicator at some point but don't have one yet. The drone does a great job of staying stable in wind. Thanks for watching!

I would add about 10ft of 550 paracord (you can use the inner strands of the paracord as thread, fishing line, etc.), a small fish hook, tweezers, a small needle, and a pocket saw. Otherwise, a good simple kit for surviving a few nights if absolutely necessary.

Tick keys don't work on small ticks. Get some tweezers with a pointed tip. Works much better.

I always appreciate kit reviews from real hikers/outdoor people. Excellent point about packing your kit not just to help yourself but also to help others in need. I would suggest at least a standard size SAK or even a neck knife. If you need to build even a smallish fire using gathered wood, you’ll find that the mini SAK is inefficient if not downright useless.
@oldtimerlee8820
@oldtimerlee8820 4 года назад
Respectfully disagree. I can't speak for other areas. Where I live in the SE US, a knife isn't needed to start a fire. All I need (with few exceptions) is a Bic lighter and gathered tinder/fuel. Alternative ignition sources work, as well. For example, ferro rod, quartz & steel, burning lens, and old fashioned stick matches. Most, more remote, places where gathering wood is allowed have an abundance of tinder/fuel that can be processed without any cutting tool. Exception situations, such as freezing rain / ice storms make it more difficult, but not impossible. Further, the mini SAK (I have several) will work to produce fatwood scrapings and splinters. It can cut a strip of cotton t-shirt to aid in starting a fire. It can produce fine curls. When used to assist in starting a fire it is not "useless", my friend.

I’d consider two changes. If you are on the high rocks and something slips and you break an ankle, a rolled aluminum splint would make a world of difference and may prevent permanent damage, that might end your hiking. And maybe get a “world’s loudest whistle”. A small whistle won’t carry far in the wind. More volume can help. The splint might be carried in the backpack. It’s about 3”x 4” rolled, but light.

A decent kit. The only material recommendation is to wedge the plunger of lighter so it doesn't vent accidentally. I assume you already carry another and a knife. But for a warmer weather kit it works if you're someplace easily searched. What I will comment on is your presentation- twice you're making derisive comments about other people's kits either without taking into account their location, intent and training level, or possibly just being subtly derisive. "Survival kit" can have very different meanings even for one person at different times and in different places. So while your kit works, it works for you, and your presentation was enough that I'm not going bother looking at the rest of your videos. Your kit gets a like, you don't.
