Hi Tyler! I’m from Michigan too! I graduated from MSU in spring 2017 and now I’m a medical student in Detroit. I went back to visit MSU for homecoming during fall 2017 and I saw you in the parade! I really enjoy watching your videos and I hope you have a great year. Thank you for making content that’s authentic, positive, and inspiring. :)
Omg I love this! I can't wait to see the rest of the stories! I love how your mom just turned around out of nowhere and asked if you were gay. HONEY WE NEED MORE CONTEXT HAHA!
I live in Cali now, but grew up 20 mins from Lansing. Me and my friends always went there after school and on weekends. The meridian mall was where it was at when I was in high school, ahahaha.
Lol, this is the kind of representation Okemos needs. You forgot to mention the ICONIC applebee's on Okemos Rd that everyone went to after performances/games!
I worked at McDonalds in high school too - and loved it as well! The people made the experience 10x better. Sure, dealing with greasy food isn't fun, but if you work with the right people, it can make a world of a difference.
My favorite memory from my hometown was probably walking literally everywhere with my first dog. I grew up in a small city of about 50,000 people but never went to any of the town's schools so getting out and taking long walks with my dog was the way I found a lot of my favorite spots. I have a really strong attachment to my own area and I love being home, so I'm beyond exited for this series!
I moved away from a school in a big rush but about a year later I found a few books that I owned the library. that was about 3 years ago.. I go back to visit every summer and I always wonder if I should give them back 😂
Lansing , Michigan! The home of Oldsmobile! This has been an interesting tour. It was informative and your stories made it interesting. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I have no favorite memories of my hometown. I left there and I have no desire to return.
I have watched this little series so many times, and each time, I feel so much joy! Tyler always brings happiness to my day and I love getting to know the little things about him that make him who he is! Much love Tyler!
Loved the post! I've come late to your party. I'm just reading you book, Binge. I can't put it down. You are a amazing voice for your generation. You are open, honest, funny and so smart. I'm old, 59 and I wish back in my day we had a voice like yours lifting us up! Thank you. You make me smile and you make me think. You are never too old to appreciate that.
My favorite memory in my hometown took place at my high school, it was my senior year and I took up tutoring for the younger class men to get volunteer hours. I fell in love with it and with my students and I'm currently studying education in college because of it ... I recently lost one of my students to an awful car accident, he was only 18... broke my heart. Rest in Paradise Malik Rucker, Fly high my angel.
Hi Tyler. Great video. I know Okemos, Lansing and East Lansing very well. I grew up just down the street in Mason. Okemos and Mason were always big rivals. I could tell exactly where you were at. Meridian Mall, The best Mall in Michigan.
It’s so amazing to have watched you grow on the Internet into such an influential figure. Watching this transfers us to your childhood. The nostalgia in this video is real❤️
Thanks for sharing this part of your life with us, Tyler! I remember enjoying all the stories about your hometown from your book but it was nice to learn even more of them! :)
My favorite part of my hometown is this little garden area behind a music school where you can sit in a gazebo in the middle of all the flowers and look at turtles, ducks, and fish in a little fenced in pond. My friends and I used to have little makeshift picnics there after school every Friday growing up.
As an MSU student and Michigander, I love love love this series! I can’t wait to see the rest. Even though I am still in school, watching this made me so nostalgic. 😭💚
Mellifluous I legit started scrolling through the comment section right after that part to see who else caught that haha.. We love Tyler so we forgive this minor mistake lol
thank you for becoming a youtuber and for making me smile with you hilarious sense of humour and great personality, you life my spirits and brighten my day. the world is a better place with you in it. im probably your oldest fan at 51 but i dont care I've read your book .... loved it and watched almost all of your vlogs.
I'm originally from Traverse City, but we would always take trips to Lansing to see my grandma and that's where a lot of my childhood memories were made. You're so inspiring and thank you for representing those of us from Michigan ❤
i dont live where i grew up anymore but my favourite thing was meeting up with all my friends and hanging out by this lake that had an amazing beach !!! but we also had this local youth centre where we could all hang out and to this day it’s my fondest memories 💘💘 wow i’m so ready for this series n really loved this ep X
I loved this video so much because my dad and his brothers grew up in Okemos and my grandparents lived in Williamston up until a few years ago. It was great to see all the places I loved going to as a kid!!
I love you. Your videos are amazing I’ve been watching for years. You helped me to be who I’m truly I’m, I wish I could meet you but. Live in England’s
my park! theres nothing like going home and sitting on those swings where i have so many amazing memories from high school! my friends and I ran that place, and got into a lot of dumb things but I never regret a second of it. theres no feeling like being at peace in your most truest of homes.
I have to go to my Schuler’s Books every time I go home too! The smell of the books and their cafe is so comforting right when I walk in! GR girl living in Seattle
Dude literally you make me smile every time I watch your videos . And I’m a big fan of your going home video!!! My favorite part about where I grew up was that , my friends and I would drive up to the football field at night at our high school when all the lights were off and we’d lay in the middle and watch the stars .
"are you gay?" "yes" why is that everything??? my grandma has asked me that many times and i still tell her no but one day i will actually say yes (maybe)
I love this!! As some one from Northern Michigan, who has spent a ton of time in Lansing, I just love watching you represent our state. It’s so much fun.
I love this series so much and I can’t wait for the rest of it to come out!! I’m also from Lansing and my favorite part is never being to far from family and the things I love
I’m so exited to watch this series ! I feel so bad for being late to watching it but life hasn’t been the best for me for awhile but I’m loving this series so far 💖💖 love you Tyler
I love this series already! I’m a student at MSU and know all of these places. It was very sweet seeing you reminisce and take us on a tour of Lansing. By the way go green!
Hi from Canada Tyler!!!!! My favorite memory from my hometown is when I met my best friend. We met at a summer camp in 4th grade and then reunited years later in sophomore year. We are still best friends to this day(11 years of AMAZING friendship) 😊😊😊😊😊
Funny story! Korey used to work at the Chase bank in Okemos, I know this because he was my bank “associate” and I remembered him from Wilson Hall, which is of course when I met you! You wouldn’t remember me because I just worked at the front desk, but I remember you would always get so much mail. I’d be like who is the Tyler Oakley guy and why does he get so much mail?! Lol I worked in Okemos for 2 years after graduating! Go green!
I live in lansing Michigan and have grown up here it’s so cool to see such a successful person that lived here because as you know Michigan is a very small and unknown part of the world and Lansing normally gets overlooked and it’s so cool I would love to meet you someday!!!
