This video is a response to a viewer request. And I think the Milwaukee M12 vacuum has great performance as long as the filter is clean. But don't just take my word for it. watch the vacuum in action. And and listen to it.
Featured gear:
Milwaukee M12 vacuum
Milwaukee M18 vacuum
Snap On bronze wire brush
Vernier Sound Sensor running Analysis on an iPad Pro
And cameos from the Milwaukee M12 Fuel Die Grinder, the M18 Fuel Drill, and the excessively loud M12 long-neck ratchet.

That is one hell of a good review! Yes it’s loud, but that is what this size tools are, especially vacs. I vacuum with ear protection anyways since I hate the loud sound, so no matter here. It’s a shop tool, and this one seems like a nice addition to my M12 collection 🙂

Doc - that video is exactly what I needed; thank you! I'm going to buy one. Improve my quality of life in the garage, house, and especially the van. BTW, I caught up on a few of your videos last night. The torch video, in particular, was great. As more folks find you, they will watch your back catalog, your views will go up, and soon you will rule the world...

IMHO all modern vacuums that use a hopper need to be emptied and maintained a lot. I have a hoover pet hair rated machine that the Wife was complaining about, I looked at it. Hopper was full and there was a 2 foot human/dog hair dreadlock stuck in the brushes and plugging up the works. Cleaned it out, works great. Dump it after every use, just get used to it.

Thanks, I needed a video review just like this. I was seeing written reviews of this tool kind of all over the place from 1 to 5 stars...this didn't make any sense to me. Obviously either people's expectations were out of line or they never maintain their equipment to get good performance. I'm buying this one after seeing it for myself in your excellent review.

Seriously - thank you for this kind of more nuanced info! The noise aspect was something I've begun to consider more now, but at 110dB it's... up at concert level noise - for context 130 at 100m is a take off from an airplane lol. I think if they make a brushless version (I mean they use Ryobi as a kind of experimental platform) but it's due for an update; I certainly wouldn't mind. For my needs (reasonably) I still like that unit, alot!

I love the m12 vacuum. Perfect for cleaning sawdust and drywall dust. Every time this saves me from lugging out my small corded shopvac I have saved tons of time and effort. With this I am able to get in and out of a clients house much faster and cleaner. 10/10

I was thinking about getting this for the same reason. I have other m12 tools and I wanted to get a vacuum for cleaning my truck. Would you still recommend this vacuum for car cleaning or do you think another style vacuum would be better? The only thing with this vacuum is it seems long. Like it might be hard to fit in certain areas. Thanks!

The m18 handheld is my most uses tool of this year I'd say, as a handy man /maitnence man. Only downside to it was fixing or changing toilets so I picked up a wet dry m12 today. I've Had the handheld m12 for about 3 years now and it's great for small areas common areas cars. Filter clogs easy for small particulates.

So just like any tool, if you learn what it’s capabilities are and use it within such capabilities, and use it for its intended purpose, you’ll be fine. If you put a 8 foot cheater bar on a 1/4 ratchet, or use a ball peen hammer to pull nails, you’re going to have a bad time. I bought my m12 vacuum one morning before my college class. Went to HD down the road and made it back in time for class. Personally, I believe that the 6ah battery is a must for this vacuum. The runtime boost is just huge. Being a brushed tool, and having to get that little motor to turn the impeller while working against the resistance of the filter is beneficial to the users experience. I mainly use my vacuum for cleaning up drywall dust and cleaning sawdust off my table saw, bandsaw, workbench, etc. I’d also say it’s worth it to clean the filter every time you dump the canister. It’s easy to pull the filter off and just a heavy tap or two on the side of the garbage is all you really need.

People do the same thing with the upright canister vacuums. I lived in an apartment for 10 years and would get a vacuum out of the trash every 6 months or so. They let the canister get so full that it ends up clogging the hose.

Although this vacuum seems unreasonably loud, I would be more curious what the average db are from an arms length away. I wouldn't be using the vacuum directly up to my ear, and I noticed that when you were getting readings when vacuuming from the little container it was peaking in the 80 db range which is way less than 108 db. Just my 2 cents. I want to like this product and get excuses to purchase it, but my 18v LXT makita vacuum is about the same size and I think would run circles around this unit (though the makita's design seems a bit fragile easily damaged).

Great idea with the SPL meter. Just be careful about how close you get. Those kinds of measurements are generally done at one metre distance, not right next to the measurement device. At that distance it is not quite accurate (the air pushing out of the vac will impact this measurement at that distance). Great idea though. I am looking at getting this vac for quick and easy cleanups as an AV installer
@lastbesttool

Thanks for the advice. I've used the SPL meters in audiophile settings, and crowd noise too. 1m on axis from source seems a standard, but where's the fun in that.

I'm sorry but this vacuum is most pathetic tool I ever used, couple of holes in the concrete floor for the anchors and it's done, there is no excuses like small filter etc. tool works or not, this one doesn't. After I got Bosch 12v one, lot smaller, much less noisy and overall a little less pathetic 😄. Do your self a favour and go straight for m18. Thanks for effort though.
@procrastinator1842
@procrastinator1842 2 года назад
If you are looking for a hand vac, this is one of the worst. In fact, all the tool brand vacs are terrible. None of them use a cyclonic dust separator and rely purely on a crappy filter, which gets blocked in seconds when you suck up plaster on concrete dust. An 1/8th of a cup of concrete dust will block up the (disposable, non washable) filter in my M12, and my Vax Blade 2 Max cyclonic will suck up dust until the bin is full, and hardly any will reach the filter, which is washable. Pick up your game tool makers!

Should work great. Expecoally in nooks and crannies. Not so much in broad sweeping strokes. We sometimes use a small broom to sweep across our wood steps and then use the vacuum to suck up all the debris once near an edge or corner. I gave one to my mother in law and she loves it. Probably more than me.
