I had an Appaloosa colt many many years ago, he was a beautiful dark brown, almost black looking like Indy with an almost full white blanket. I got him at about 5 months old. He was born on May 1st and his Momma’s name had “Tuff” in it. I named him May Day Tuff and called him Nick. Gosh I loved that baby. That was over 30 years ago!

For Finn I think it would be so cute if he was kept a stud and named him “RS Good with the Girls” I think this would be so cute

Lol I can’t get the name that popped into my head for Fin out.. you said his parents names and I’m still laughing.. the name that instantly jumped into my head as ‘good and Randy’

For Phin - RS Applejack Flats (Applejack is another name for brandy and Flats refers back to grandsire, VS Flatline) For Petey - RS Hay There Hennessey (Hay for the sire, Hennessey as a brand of brandy/cognac) For Penelope - RS Barnkat Assets

I had a blanketed Appaloosa that I got as a yearling. He hadn’t been named and registered when I bought him so I decided to name him But Naked. I also bred a mare and she literally carried for 368 days. My vet said if she didn’t foal by Monday morning, the conversation was on Friday, that she needed to go to the university nearby and have a section. She had him Sunday night. Since she carried so long I decided to name him ‘Bout Time. Cause it was ‘bout time he decided to enter the world. I have registered dogs too. I love coming up with registered names!!

I grew up with my family breeding and showing Peruvians. Their registered names are required to be Spanish. It is most common in Peruvians to have the breeders/ranches initial at the beginning or end. We have had many and most of their barn names are just the name without the initials. It's also cool knowing the meaning of their names. One of ours was bailadore del sole (dancer of the sun) we called chips. Then me heart horse was Sable KP (saber/sword) her daughter Seda KP (silk).

Our OTTBs are Cruising Bullet aka Dublin and Caminaconloscodos his name translates to walking on elbows so his barn name is Elbows, our Morgan is Dark Angel, our Quarter horse is Dodo and our mini is Jack Daniels.

I also think you could do RS Western Wonder for waylon because western and wonder could be cool key words for his babies

My daughter, who is 11, says that you should name Penelope, RS Kat’s got the Assets!

I had an appendix quarter horse growing up and she was by Skip and her show name was Skip's Country Sis :) I loved it and even funnier my maiden name was Skipper lol.

My last QH was named “Kings Poco Bar Bee.” Barn name Barbie”. I’m guessing you can figure out a few of her blood lines from that name. My favorite pony from when I was a kid was a welsh chocolate palomino named “Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.” She had a baby “silly rabbit trix are for kids.”

My first ever horse was a registered Arabian gelding and his registered name was "Geo Mr. Prince". I'd have to double check his paper work but i think the only reference to his parents was his Dam's name was "Princess Comaraz" or something along those lines. I'll have to dig his pedigree out of his memory box someday!

We breed Morgans and our last baby we had out of our 1st broodmare whom we called ladygirl, we ended up naming him "Lady's Last Hoorah" the registry loved it when we spoke to them on the phone

I used to raise Appaloosas and I actually enjoyed coming up with Registered names.

Thanks for sharing! I love the lineage of quarter horses. My mares registered name was “Lil Miss Goldie Fox”. Just like you said, the “Fox” came from her mom, and grandsire “Two Eyed Fox”.

I leased a mare who was registered as "To The Moon Mary" with the Jockey Club, and at the track (where she was NOT successful) They called her Mary. She was so not a Mary. We called her Luna and showed her under "To The Moon". Was also looking at a friends horses pedigree as she had an absolutely terrible registered name and my thought was call her "Ima Flying Sock" I think I might have to use that one myself one day. Another friend has a gelding whose registered as " Mr Blackburn Frost" And he is called Sluggo!

Hahaha!!! I actually had a horse who’s barn name was “BOB “!! His registered name was Raider Bars Poco. I don’t know how he got his barn name but it totally fit him. My barrel horse was Downtown Joe Brown. I swear he was the fastest horse alive!! I was in the IPRA and won a lot of money. Thinking back, I wish I would have went pro but I had other obligations so I really couldn’t. I had lots of others but I won’t bore you any longer!! You have a beautiful place out there. I’m up here in Nashville. It is beautiful out there where your farm is.

I love show horse names! When I was a kid I leased a horse named "A touch of Magic" her barn name was magic. And then we also had a horse named "High Sea" barn name Ara.

When I was in college, I leased this awesome 3yo named Cookie, her registered name was A Little Bit of Dough lol bet you can't guess her lineage lmao😂

My sister had a mare registered, “Reefer Modness” (Bar Flower x Pine’s Codalena) Her barn name was Gucci. She had 3 foals for us. A gelding reg “Cassidy Cache” (Mr Touch O Class x Reefer Modness), A filly reg “Gotta Lotta Cache”, and another filly, “Juana Mambo” (My Leo Mambo x Reefer Modness) Sis kept “Jane” for 20 some odd years and bred her once for the gelding Sis still has, “Light Juan Up” (Light Crude x Juana Mambo) Names are wild. We managed to get a couple of cute and catchy ones in there.

My Grandparents generously bought me my very first horse at 10. He was a retired racehorse. He was me first love and he was 2 year old Thoroughbred. I named him Kody and his registered show name was “DAKOTA BLUE”. I had him until he was 25 ❤️ I miss him so very much.

Anyone elses's first reaction to these name choices is to count how many letters to see if they fit (or by eliminating spaces can be made to fit) the AQHA 20 charactor rule? Just me?😅

Growing up we had paint quarter horses. Our Stallion "Ty" was Titan's Gold Flit and we had a yearling we called Dude but his name was St. Valentine and he was born 2/14 he was red and had a heart on his face. We had a buckskin mare we named Big mama but she was registered as (knightly)Nightly Potion not sure which one. We never showed them. Ty was shown on halter at 13mos old and won his only ever show. I was 9 so i have zero memories of that stuff.

My aunts horses registered name is attack on the town it fits her so well 😂

My aunts stallion is Deluxe Impulse (Clyde) if you have heard of him. All her babies are PS. She has one broodmare that was Mac And Not A Ronie (? spelling), cuz she was the only baby her dam ever had that was not a roan. She changed her name tho. I thought it was cute! Lol
