Hey guys! 👋
Welcome back to the channels! Just wanted to share a short video of what the accommodation is like for medical students at Pearson Road, Ipswich.
This should be super useful if you're being placed there 😬 or if you're just having a nosey!
Pros:
- Was free for us!
- SOOOO close to the hospital
- Heating was included ☺️
- They provide all the kitchen equipment: cutlery, pots, pans, plates
- Great for socialising
- Each bedroom has a sink
- Drs Mess in the hospital provides bed linen and towels
- The mattresses are super comfy 🥰
Cons:
- No toilet paper!!!!
- Limited bed linen - same as patient ones so quite plasticky pillows/ thin blankets

Hi Maria! Thanks for this video! I’ll be starting work at Ipswich hospital soon and wanted to know who to contact regarding the accommodation? And if you have any other accommodation info/ tips for near Ipswich hospital that would be great. Thanks 😊

Hi! That’s really exciting! For our student accommodation, it was managed by the hospital’s Estates team and OCS staff in the Drs mess. They got in contact with us earlier and we picked up keys from the hospital. If possible, I’d recommend getting in contact with the Dr’s mess members - they’d likely have good recommendations about accommodation!

Are you planning on staying in the NHS, ir are you thinking of going abroad? Also, do you recommend cambridge med as a whole, or would you say go somewhere easier?

Very hard to say about future plans - just trying to get through this year at the moment! 😂 I’ll try to give a more detailed answer about what I think of the Cambridge medical course at some point…BUT in short summary: maybe? Cambridge course works if you’re interested in research/ undecided about medicine (and want to explore other things in your intercalation)/ like science a lot. If your goal is to be a doctor, the integrated courses at most other unis seem better to me (much more logical structure where you build on things in a more systematic way throughout the degree). Think they’re well supported by research too, which explains why almost all unis have moved away from the traditional course.
