I'm a Cambridge medical student, and on this channel I hope to:
📝 Help younger students with advice on how to get into uni/ med school (I've done it aaaaand I'm currently helping my younger sibling with this process!) 🏔 Keen on sharing my adventures (vlogs, med school, challenges, and travels - especially on a budget!) 🧠 Documenting about my mental health journey (+ working against this stigma) ☕️ Honest chats about Cambridge and uni and medical school...and whether I think it's all a good idea 🐢 Spread some zoology love/ anything animal related (did you know, I have a zoology degree??😂)
If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, come along for the ride!
hello! i’m writing for the trinity gould competition, it doesn’t have any criteria upon referencing so do you reckon i can just pop them in the footnotes? thank you!!
Hi! I have a few friends at Homerton who seem very happy with it as a college! It is a bit further out from town, so would recommend going to visit and making sure you're ok with it being slightly further from your department! In general though, it has lots of space (and even an orchard I think...?) and is super pretty! It's very convenient for the hospital and the education department too :))
Homerton alum here. Everyone's talking about how far it is...but it isn't that far, really. Get a bike and u'll be within 15 minutes of everywhere. I regularly walked to King's Parade from Homerton. It is also next door to the education faculty, so if u're studying education, it's the best college to be in.
Very little said about St Edmunds, we're the college everyone forgets about. 😂 For those who are interested, St Edmunds was created once the interdict against Catholics was lifted, and were finally allowed to attend Cambridge. It was originally a hostel, then a dormitory for catholic students who matriculated at other colleges, and was eventually turned into a full college thanks to the hard work and funding of prominent catholic figures. It has the only Roman catholic chapel in both Oxford and Cambridge combined. Interesting fact: Georges Lemaître, the Astrophysicists Catholic priest , and grandfather of the big bang theory studied at St Edmunds.
Hey! I'll be submitting an essay for an international event. It's my first time so I'm really nervous. May I contact you via email or something to clarify a few things? It's really urgent for me and I'd appreciate it a lot. Thank you!
Hi Maria! Thanks for this video! I’ll be starting work at Ipswich hospital soon and wanted to know who to contact regarding the accommodation? And if you have any other accommodation info/ tips for near Ipswich hospital that would be great. Thanks 😊
Hi! That’s really exciting! For our student accommodation, it was managed by the hospital’s Estates team and OCS staff in the Drs mess. They got in contact with us earlier and we picked up keys from the hospital. If possible, I’d recommend getting in contact with the Dr’s mess members - they’d likely have good recommendations about accommodation!
Hello Maria, i am from india, i have done master in zoology , i want to join phd in cambridge , what the procedure, which i should follow, please do make video on this topic that will be helpful for us(international student). A lot of love from india♥♥
Hi, I’ve messaged you on instagram, asking you about what books you read for your personal statement. I’m really interested in history and medicine so I’m looking for a book that incorporates the two ?
Thank you so much this was such a helpful video! Just wondering whether you are willing to share your essay plans? If not I completely understand but I'd love to know which questions you planned for as I'm also doing the Germany topic!
The female colleges were set up because women could not attend the other colleges, but now that isn't the case. I think you are allowed gender segregation for education so it isn't legally discriminatory. Most likely in the next 20 years all the female-only colleges will transition to mixed, which Oxford has already done.
21 is mature? Most students I knew 50 years ago didn't even start maturing until 25 (most females) to 30 (mostly males). There were exceptions, but the generalities stood.
hello, sorry. If you're free enough, a step by step and more specified video would really help, I just graduated high school and is quite lost on what should i do to be closer to my aim which is to study vet sci.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips! What global essay competitions can you recommend? I am fond of writing essays, and I want to join to challenge myself.
@@mariaizmirlievaApologies for the typo. I accidentally spelt it as "find of writing essays" instead of "fond of writing essays," but I edited it now. I am already in the 11th Grade, and no worries, I found myself a few international essay competitions, and I will be entering the Harvard Crimson Global Essay Competition 2024 this December. The global essay competitions I am planning on entering is the Pivotal Essay Contest and the Oxbright Essay Competition, but may I ask though if you have encountered these essay competitions and are they considered legit? I almost committed myself to writing an essay for "Immerse Education Essay Competition" and recently found out that it was a scam as stated by plenty of redditors. I was persuaded because wherever "Immerse Education" is mentioned, I would always find people saying it's a scam, so that's why I want to be extra cautious now.
@@term7940I am applying to immerse education essay competition and I don't think it's really a scam. I know some friends getting accepted and even attending there summer school

Hi! I applied for medicine at Cambridge this year and I was wondering if you'd recommend doing an additional personal statement for the My Cambridge Application.
hi! i just came across your video and I'm applying for 2024 entry, i'm an international applicant and scored 2910 b2, are there any universities you would recommend for me?
Hi! This is a fantastic score - well done! You have a score over most cut-offs, though I would suggest hedging your bets and applying for ones with a high and medium UCAT entry requirement because they often prefer higher scores for Internationals. Perhaps something like King's, Bart's, Edinburgh and Manchester? This website is useful: www.medicmind.co.uk/medicine-ucas-guide/where-can-i-apply-with-my-ucat-score/. Of course, it also depends on how you've done on exams, and your own preference too!
First-year grades must be kept in perspective. As legendary NFL coach Vince Lombardi said, 'Winning and losing are habit-forming', and I think there is a psychological benefit to landing a good mark in year one, especially if you need a shield against imposter syndrome. On the other hand, there's little advantage to ruining your mental health in year one when bigger challenges lie ahead.
My country doesn't offer any volunteering. I got 7A* and 1A (in biology) in GCSE(in my country it is equivalent to grade 9 and 10) . Im really passionate about medicine. All I can do is participate in quiz, art, creative writing and once participated in an olympiad the result of which is not out yet. Im in yr 12. Plz guide what else should i do?
Hi! Apologies for the delay in replying! I would recommend taking a look at my video on supercurriculars for more information. To give a quick summary though, I would recommend things like reading books/ articles and presenting information to your peers. You can also get involved with teaching younger students or run societies that relate to medicine (eg medsoc, dissection society). You can try entering essay competitions (many do allow international applicants too, and I've met people from abroad at prize-giving days!). I know it might seem tricky given the situation with volunteering, but you might just need to be a little creative! Best of luck! :)
