My biggest hot take is that I really don't want mario kart to turn into a kart racer version of smash. I like how it's just mario, and can keep the mario athestic. I don't mind having a few characters like link or villager but I really would prefer characters like hammer bro or spinoff characters.
I agree with that completely, some crossover stuff is fun but I want the series to stay as *Mario* Kart and not turn into Nintendo Kart, not that a "Nintendo Kart" couldn't be cool but it lacks the notable identity of Mario Kart so I feel like it wouldn't be as popular in the long run
Favorite tracks from Wii U Mario kart 8 are 8 deluxe Mario circuit, toad harbor , sunshine airport , Mount Wario , 8 deluxe Rainbow Road , Yoshi Circuit, Animal Crossing, Yoshi Valley , Tick Tock clock ⏰, N64 Rainbow Road , Hyrule Circuit, Big Blue And from booster course pass are coconut mall , ninja hideaway , Kalimari Desert, Waluigi Pinball , Sydney Sprint , Wii Maple Tree, 3DS rainbow road , DS Mario Circuit, Singapore speedway, moonview highway , sprints Sprint Clean , LA Laps , Rome Avanti , Rosalina Ice World
That Koopalings take is so based. I've heard a lot of people say they should just be alts for Bowser Jr. but I feel like that's the same as saying "make Baby Mario an alt for Mario". It's fine for Smash since their bodies are mostly obscured by the Clown Car but I don't want to race as short Iggy and aggressively less chonky Morton. These guys have dramatically different body types and I would like them all to be anatomically correct instead of changing it cause "Smash did it".
I keep hearing people say "Koopalings take up so much space and should be bundled as one character" and the also say the same with with the baby characters. The reason these characters are their own characters is because they all have have unique animations. Though clone characters like Tanooki Mario and Peachette, should of just been alts for Mario and Peach as those are just skins on existing characters
i never understand people saying that. like the argument is that the koopalings take away spots from other potential characters right, but they would still have to model, animate, and program voices of all of them (and i REALLY cannot see them going the smash route and making all of them the same body type), so its not like it would open spots for other characters or something, it would only make the roster look smaller. the only thing i can think of that itd 'fix' is that, if you play with computers, at most only one koopaling would be in the race
8:38 GOAT opinion. Especially in 8, player skill matters WAY more than character viability. Every combo in 8 is at the very least a weird niche option, and all combos are more than playable. WR pace time trials are the one exception, but the number of people at that level actively trying to take wrs is ridiculously small relative to the amount of people who have ever played mk8.
I agree with this. It'd allow more people to wrote out comments. Heck, I only begrudgingly wrote out my takes on mk8d on the post cause I knew I wasn't gonna get picked for the video
@@MrbaldRevell-c6z My comment on the community post was: "Luigi Circuit should've gotten in the Booster Course Pass. It's so stupidly simple, but it's the perfect starter course, with some really fun techniques on the boost-panels. More Luigi is always better."
The one that say "Blooper should be a bad playable character" is a genius, has a vision and I consider him a great guy (mostly because I love the idea of a blooper being playable and being the worst character to play as)
Honestly the ''deleting character stats'' is a take I 100% agree with. What if your playstyle and favourite character clash? Sure, your kart choice can midigate that, but it's still nice to have whatever character you want with your preferred stats. Heck, there's an SRB2 Kart mod that lets you customize your character's stats and it is a lifesaver. Also I kinda like Peachette too. I just think she's adorable.
Personally, I agree with that, tho given the character i play (take a wild guess), ive never had an issue with my playstyle and character choice clashing Also based
its weird how 'i dont mind non-mario characters in mario kart' seemingly became a hot take overnight. i always had the impression that people liked them
I think people like non-mario characters in Mario Kart, but don’t want them to become a reoccurring thing or for the franchise to become “Nintendo Kart”.
One hot take that I have is I would prefer not having all the characters at launch (apart from DLC) like imagine starting the game with like 12-16 characters and you have to do unlock characters by getting enough coins OR bring back the DS challenge mode and unlock characters that way!
Almost like every Mario Kart game before this, including the original Mario Kart 8... I totally agree with you tho I like having more stuff to work towards. Also the fact that you automatically unlock mirror mode and 200cc off the bat feels weird
@@jessicacallaghan8082 yeah because after you unlock gold Mario and all the cars and stuff which is feels like forever but if you spam for like a day it’ll be done easy, but if you had the challenge/ unlock characters you actually have a lot to do which is much better in my personal opinion
I do feel like Deluxe having all its characters from the start stemmed from the idea that a lot of buyers already got base 8. Though yeah, wish it was like Smash U (Smash 3ds had more unlockable characters for context than Smash U) and had all the new characters being unlockable. Maybe the base 8 DLC characters and cups too, but idk fully.
I’m a very big Madrid Drive defender as an American who has been living here for the past year. Recognizing every landmark is so cool, and I think the track is compact enough to not be annoying. It kind of feels more like a normal Mario Kart track that evolves over time instead of the sprawling mess of other city tracks
8:48 I love beating people as Shy Guy. Because A: He's not a Yoshi metaslave B: Beating people with a little goober using nothing but pure skill brings me joy
Honestly ever since Bowser Jr made it to the game, the Koopalings never felt like a bad choice for Mario Kart. I think the problem more stems from the fact they were added before Jr. and had he been in day one, I don’t think the Koopalings would’ve gotten as much hate
It's not that it's not fun it's that it's boring. They could have done a lot better with the theme of a Neo City and even if we ignore that and focus on the remake they could make it a least a tiny bit more interesting.
They should have added Bowsers Castle DS in the booster course. Also all the power up characters like Cat peach should have been alternate skins and then those spots could have been used for unique characters like Dixie Kong.
WHY DOES NOBODY LIKE NEO BOWSER CITY?! First Schaffrillas, now you? Like I get the layout, but the aesthetic? It's top tier in terms of aesthetic! The music is amazing too! I don't get it. Edit: I think I started something
10:45 I rememeber that the AI would often get stuck into literaly looping in circles in a smaller part of both said stages. I do not like the battle mode from Wii U, it also had the mixup of that you would stay dead after being defeated but could drive around as a ghost and still take others out. But not getting points for it.
9:38 to be fair, the guy did say that the graphical quality is lower. He didn't say that it looked better, he just said that he preferred the more cartoony look, and I'm gonna be honest, I agree. Why some tracks (Toad Circuit) do look bad in my opinion, I don't think a mario kart game should look realistic. It is a bit strange seeing the mario cast race in a realistic looking forest or something, isn't it?
The thing is, the base MK8 art style isn't hyper-realistic. It's more semi-realistic, with a considerable amount of saturation to make it feel "Mario". Not to mention how the lighting, details on the tracks and even some of the animations are miles ahead of those of the BCP. So it's not just the textures that received a downgrade.
13:36 actually it’s the opposite, i fricking despise Amsterdam Drift with a burning passion and i’m triumphantly happy that you called the City tracks bad lol
I think you’re missing another reason why people hate cheese land. And also underrating how big those cuts are at the end. Seriously, there’s no point in running, bagging is way too good, two mushrooms take you from 9th to 1st Anyways, the biggest reason I dislike cheese land is the combination of low traction (the reason you don’t like Neo Bowser) and cheese holes. Makes the track really annoying to drive on
My take is that the next Mario Kart should be only new tracks. I think we've had enough retros shoved down our throats with Tour and the BCP for a while.
Honestly, I just like the city courses because I have been to several of them (Los Angeles, New York, Rome, London, Paris, and Singapore), so instead of thinking about the layout, I think "I'm recognize everything I'm driving through."
10:03 What he’s saying here is that Base 8 got paid DLC on the WiiU. But then it was ported to the Switch as Deluxe less than 4 years after the original release. And Deluxe included the paid DLC in the purchase for no extra cost, which really made the people who bought WiiU 8 and paid for its DLC feel quite screwed over. I think that’s the gist of it.
I wish mario kart did focus more on the side games, as they're just as much a part of the mario series and I feel like this would be a good and easy way to include them
I wish booster course pas 2 should happen to other 48 tracks and 12 cups called those Sun shine spirit cup, elephant cup , bubble cup , boo cup , heart cup , green star cup , coin cup , blooper cup , wonder flower cup, Bob bomb cup , bullet bill cup , super horn cup
I believe it's due to Nintendo catering to a casual audience rather than the hardcore Mario fanbase. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is by far the best-selling Mario game, and most people playing the game are much more likely to know characters like Kamek, Birdo, or Link than the likes of Geno, Starlow, Dimentio, and Edge.
@@cobaltordinaire5219 Paper Mario references Mario Kart 64, not the other way around. There are Paper Mario references in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, though (obviously because it was developed by Intelligent Systems).
Here’s one. I want the next Mario kart to have NO RETROS! Both the booster course pack and tour are so retro heavy that I just wanna break from them for just one game. I want a new Mario kart game with nothing but new courses.
I love Neo Bowser City because I loved ascetic and it's very skill based, I find it very fun to race on, not to mention it has one of the best songs IMO
I really like the explanation you gave for disagreeing with my hot take and you bring up some really good points! It is fun seing a bunch of yoshis loose to peachette lmao 8:47
I fucking HATE SNES Rainbow Road. It might honestly be my least favorite track to race on in the whole game. Now you might be thinking, “Well, that’s just a massive skill issue.” And to that I say, yes. Yes it is.
I agree that the Koopalings were a great addition to the game. I always gravitate towards them whenever playing this game. Here is something I would have loved to be added to VS race: I always wished there was an option where you could choose which characters and kart combinations your opponents had, like you can do so in Super Smash Bros. I also would have loved for you to be able to race in more than just two teams. Like what about a race with four teams of three like in Team Sonic Racing? That was a good concept. Another cool thing to add would have been being able to choose how many opponents you would have in a given race. This could open up heaps of great racing combinations, like a race with just Koopalings, or a race with just Non-Mario characters, or using the Mii Feature to get a race with just the characters from your favorite show/game? All those extra options would have added a lot more flavour to the game. Obviously I'm not being a hater, I think the game is great, but those are things I would have loved to see added.
Gonna drop 3 hot takes 1. The tour tracks carry the booster course pass 2. They completely murdered LA Laps’s music. It’s nowhere near as good in 8 as it is in Tour. 1. 8dx is overall just really mid. Like, it’s a functional Mario kart, but it’s really just there, has a ton of tracks, and not much more.
A hot take I have is that sky high Sunday is WAY too over hated. I think the layout is fun to traverse through and the aesthetic of a bunch of frozen treats in the sky is one I like.
At least Dry Dry Desert is just a bad track and nothing else. Water Park is supposed to be a tutorial for how underwater driving is different from normal driving and barely shows it. Mario Kart Stadium successfully manages to tutorialise almost everything the game has to offer while Water Park fails in teaching you a single mechanic.
Flamin hot take: all of the base 8 nitros are forgettable trash with most of the fan favorites being carried only by their music except for sweet sweet canyon, cloud top cruise, and bone dry dunes.
For the next mario kart game I want a "chaos mode" that adds a ton of extra items for the lols and has an additional item slot. Things like 5 bananas, a giant green shell, the thundercloud everyone hates, triple Bo-bombs. Stuff like that. I also want future courses to add shortcuts you can only take while small. That would be cool.
On the "mario kart characters having the same stats" debate: I don't really care that much either way. I'm not that into 8 Deluxe's competitive scene and I wouldn't really notice that much if a character would significantly preform better than another one. --also if you wanted to play a certain character you like competitively then maybe start playing better with that character lmao--
Don’t know if it’s a hot take but I didn’t mind the changes to Toad’s Turnpike (my fave N64 course). While it’s not as cramped and had the antigravity walls, I still think it’s a fun course
@BlueMarioGaming Captain Falcon definitely deserves to be a Mario Kart character. He's from a racing franchise, unlike the other crossover characters, and has two tracks and an entire kart combination on top of that. I genuinely don't understand how he didn't make it in.
@@TicTacToeCraft can't say i'm really the biggest fan of the guest characters from other franchises, even if captain falcon IS racing adjacent, but to each their own i guess.
The overall issue with Cheese Land is online, that track is SUPER broken and really makes people bag for last places items to literally go from last place to first, not only using the shortcut you mentioned but also having what people calls "a bullet extension" giving an unfair advantage to people that seeks for the Bullet Bill on last place It's overall a very nice track but the gameplay on online really ruins it…
4:43 What?? Really??? I would have definitely pegged you as having played these as a fan of Mario and platformers. You _need_ to play DKC. At least Tropical Freeze. I’ve actually grown to like it more than 2D Mario. It is exactly the type of game you would like and it’s on the Switch. What’s keeping you?
Of the SNES Bowser Castles, there's a reason only SNES Bowser Castle 3 has been remade. 1) It's the best SNES Bowser Castle, and 2) the first two SNES Bowser Castles pale in comparison, even in the original. SNES Bowser Castle 1 is the epitome of bland, forgettable mediocrity: it's boring, very repetitive, and has pretty much nothing going on. SNES Bowser Castle 2, on the other hand, is the textbook definition of an infamous atrocity that is a menace to society. Not only is it the worst Bowser Castle track, but it is also one of the worst tracks ever created. This track is designed to infuriate players. It has way too many 90 degree turns and has confusing split paths, but what makes this track so infamous is doing something no other track has the audacity to do: it actively tries to make you lose the race with its dead end that leads straight to lava.
I personally felt happy with Peachette's inclusion in BCP Wave 6, I love how her trick animations are based of her double jump from NSMBUDX and her voice overall is adorable, I have always mained her since Wave 6 dropped, much better clone then Pink Gold Peach anyways

@@vanessasandoval96 Where do I even begin with this? Okay, first of all, we are not getting new Tour tracks. Tour is not getting new tracks since this year, and the seasons cycle through old and existing ones. And if we are not getting new Tour tracks, we are not getting new city tracks either. Now to your picks: Seoul would be too similar to Tokyo if it were taking place during the day. It would need something to stand out, like rain or something. There is no way we are going to see a real Chinese city in a Nintendo game, and we do not need more American cities anymore. Three (if you count Vancouver) are plenty. I do think that Rio is a good pick, though, and a huge missed opportunity on Nintendo's part, considering Mario visited Rio already in M&S 2016. And you only listed a few of the 48 tracks. I hope you realize most of them would be boring SNES tracks because Nintendo already picked most of the heavy-hitters for the BCP. For the characters: Arguably good choices, but three "Bros" are redundant. My advice: Please do not get your hopes up for something like this and just wait for a new Mario Kart, which will definitely include some of the tracks and characters you listed here.

@@gameyfirebro9645 I intended that more as a joke, but the Mousers are original characters from a non-mainline Mario series. And since Miyamoto was previously notoriously opposed to expanding the "Mario cast" (especially during the "bland" Mario era) and chain chomps are characters whose origin is linked to one of Miyamoto's own childhood experiences, I found it appropriate to make that joke.
Finally someone defending the koopalings. Clowns act like they never had a important role in the mario franchise. They were bosses in two of the greatest mainline mario games ever made. Koopalings earn every right to be in every mario kart game more then half the roster.
I mean, its more so that there are 7 of them and none of them really stand out from one another besides Ludwig and Wendy. The fact that they are almost always talked about under their collective name and not as individuals doesn't make them feel like individual characters of importance, but a collective. If I had the choice to represent that Koopalings through like 3 or 4 of them and then get 3 or 4 spots for new characters who haven't been in Mario Kart I'd take it. Hell, I'd take a Goomba over 2 of them.
They have a history in Mario. They just don't need to take up a dozen slots for what's essentially "bowser jr but tall and skinny" or "bowser jr but fat and brown".
Holy crap sir musty! I love his stuff! Also you should really play donkey Kong country, especially since you clearly like difficulty, I feel like you’d love them. Heck I think they’re better than every nsmb game (except ds for me)
Big disagree on focusing on mainline characters over more obscure ones. Before Mario Kart, Wario and Waluigi were basically on the level of popularity as characters we consider obscure now like Geno and basically any Paper Mario sidekick. But now he's a household name that pretty much anyone who knows about Mario recognizes! I think it'd be cool for other characters to have that experience too!
That seems a bit exaggerated, I mean, Super Mario Land 2 and 3 sold better than the RPGs and he was THE character of both games, even in the advertising, so... I mean I get your point, but still
@@TurretBot I think there's more that goes into character popularity than sale figures. Mario Odyssey is one of the best-selling games on the switch, but how often do you hear people talking about the Broodals?
I think the reason why people hate cheese land is because of how online, it heavily encourages bagging “sitting in the back and waiting for good items” if you try to race on cheese land normally, you are basically guaranteed a poor spot on the leaderboard.
The reason everyone plays the same character is due to competitive. There's a reason why despite there being so many characters with the exact same stats as Yoshi he's the only one that you pick. Being able to color them also makes it easy for team-identification without standing out too much. All you need to change your mind is to get target shocked over a giant pit and sent to last because the guy with the shock saw you on the minimap to understand why it's so important to not be a free thinker.
I think a lot of people dislike Cheeseland because of how people play it online. You sit back until you get Golden Mushrooms and Bulletbills then take the Bullet Extension on the second or third lap and "cheese" a win. ( Sorry for the pun but it's the best way to describe how it probably feels to more casual players. ) There are always ten Yoshis swarming the first item set.
I'd love to see MK9 expand on Zero Gravity, maybe even something where you can jump onto walls. My main thing I really want is to have people drive inside a pipe and you get to see players upside down.
Tbh I've never even played a mario cart game but I could still just hours of you talking about anything cause of how good your editing is. Pure dopamine to my brain. Loved the video.
