(Suggested by Canadian,Dr.Janine Bowring) Pool salt 2 kill out the weeds and might help the snow melt faster. I probably pump all that water n2 the sewers.😂

Pretty shoddy developer who sold you this acreage. Here in Australia, if a developer sold acreage he/she would have to put major drainage in place befroe he/she would get permits to sell.
Make a dry dich where the most water collected with dry moats connecting. So that in the future the melt can drain the yard without making the yard a muddy swamp. Maybe even make the complete yard surrounded by a mini berm to protect the smaller plants from erosion. Anyway, great video, can't wait for the next one.

why don't you collect the water in a big underground cistern and use it when the Sommer is hot to water your trees and plants? That safes a lot of money. thx for sharing the video
We had a winter like that in New Brunswick when we lived there, we had three +40 cm blizzards in one week and it went on from there. Then boom, summer overnight and the melt started. We lived in military housing so a lot of the water ran through the basement. At least you are able to fix your water flow problem yourself. The acreage is looking great, fingers crossed for your trees coming back ok.

The drone really comes in handy for this channel. I laughed when you said spring melt and then of course more snow. This is a good test to see how much water the eco buffer can take. It really got a lot there. So that was a good test. The neighbors yard is well done, but he could use some elevation. I am SO glad you didn't suffer any damage to your house from all this water. Ok, so back to Dad's house for a minute, am I the only one that noticed the off kilter bird house in the back ground? You would need a small army of those mowers to do your whole acreage. 🤣That cracks me up. Anyway, at least this was a good test run of your work on leveling the yard. Yes the drone footage is great! Gives really good perspective for things like this. This was definitely a worst case scenario, and one I would hope doesn’t happen again. But, so long as the water isn’t coming in the house it won’t be a problem since it all drains out and the evaporates away in a week or two. Trees should be ok too I hope! As for my neighbour, his house was built below grade so he has to really be careful during any spring melt, but he’s taking action on improving the drainage in his yard too. Haha, yeah my mom loves the birds. Wouldn’t that be cool to have like 10 of the navimows working in sequence on my grass?! Hahaha Anyways, glad you enjoyed this one Joel! See you in the next one!
Look into natural rainwater harvesting and bioswales - good way to make a ground sponge to keep the spring melt watering your plants for a while longer!
I was in Lethbridge last week at my Step Son's acreage. I went from 45*C (113* F) here in Las Vegas to 10*C (50*F) in Lethbridge. I froze LOL. I also got eaten by mosquitos 🥴
Oh, I feel your pain. Brilliant idea with the sump pump, as long as you’ve an area downhill to flow it to. Preferably not your neighbours if you like them. Our sump pump in the States starts running mid April and stops around mid June. We had to dig retention ponds on two of our properties and raise the driveways. We needed a canoe to get to the post box and collect packages from the end of the driveway! 🚣♀️ 😂
If this was posted a month ago (as YT says in the description), why are you now coming into spring? It's currently the end of winter in Australia- and we are coming into spring. For you, this should be the other way around, huh? It's going to be a warm summer here again. At the end of winter, we've already had temperatures up to 28C (80F). Yikes!

From seeing how high the road has been built up (thanks probably to the engineers who could foresee this event), that's a pretty good sign that everyone should have built their homes a bit higher off the ground. You may have to consider putting in a large pond (more like a mini-lake) up the back of your yard and sloping downwards towards this for future events. It's something that hasn't been communicated well to the property buyers. I guess they thought it was obvious from the way that road is built.
Could you prep the trees for the harsher climates? I've seen people wrap them and do other things so this stuff doesn't happen. Pretty sure it doesn't cost much either. Anyways, just an idea. Hope it helps.b
I'm no expert but what if you redirected the melted snow to a retaining pond in the corner of your front yard? Which could be a water source for when there is drought. If it's a wet season the overflow could go into the ditch.
Glad to hear your house or your neighbor's house didn't flood. With the hundred degree temps Arizona been getting, snow will melt very quickly. Love this video and can't wait to see the next one.

i plow snow for fun so i probably plow about the same amount of snow in a year that you plow after one snowfall. i use a heavy shovel and am 14 years old

Yup, plus developers like to skimp out so of course all they did was put a road and some culverts in and called it a day…only they did a crap job of that too. There would still need to be quite a bit more water for it to have caused problems, and I’m going to make sure I landscape in such a way that my basement windows are protected. Should be ok!
You had said you expected some of this, but not this much! The farmland near my home has been sold to developers. I'm worried what will happen with roads and such. There was significant flooding years ago with several feet of water in houses across the highway from me. Good luck. ❤
Honestly I would think that a subdivision with roads would improve drainage as they would have adequate drainage around houses to the street, where they’d likely have storm sewers not? Of course situations can vary so maybe not!

He could, but it would need to drain into the same undersized system that is already not handling it. Not good planning at all by developers- exceptional year or not, as more houses are added on that flat plain- more concrete more run off less ground to absorb water. His drone footage looked a lot like what the farmers in MN this year were dealing with, their crop fields flooding as the drainage ditches were above capacity and the drain pumps were basically recycling the water until the levels started going down.

and the more that is built and developed on the surrounding land, the worse the problem will become as there will be less open land to absorb the water. I would be attending planning and development meetings or whatever the equivalent is in Canada to keep an eye on what is going on. We stopped the state and federal govt’s from intervening in our watershed that has been beautifully managed by the farmers, the counties, and the townships for nearly 100 years.
Might I say that must have been an incredibly high end/expensive hot tub to warrant a crane to remove it. I deal with water all the time I pump water all the time we use 2” centrifugal pumps with Honda engines. Run off is destructive that’s for sure. Culverts should always be as placed as low as possible, it’s the best practice. Interesting and personal view of your land. Perhaps you could use a culvert or perhaps a nyloplast structure with honeycomb steel cover in the low point from the studio side to the open side yourself. A lot of this water looks equalized. We have certain areas that are near sea level in Maine that this issue occurs. Ultimately while it may not have been deemed necessary at first, but catch basins and underground 15-18” underground drain pipes should have probably been installed in places.
It seems no one thought of drainage before deveoping the sub. French drains work great, but in your case there is no where to drain it to. If one neighbor does something drastic, you all pay. I live in a suburb of Detroit, not far from Lake St Clair, so water flows eastward toward the lake, often in the back yards. I was getting major water from two sides of my yard, so we had a French drain installed 2 years ago, and after two winters and many severe downpours, I am happy to say we no longer get flooding. The pop-up emitter was brought out front and drains down my driveway, oftem peeing for a day after a big downpour. No puddles and I can cut my lawn with the tractor as soon as it al melts. Amazing.
You need marsh plants. That will help with snow melt, but also when you get big rains the rest of the year. My yard is on a much smaller scale, but I have water-loving plants in areas known to collect water. It helps keep the water away from the foundation and gets rid of it faster.
I wonder if there is a way to create perhaps a reservoir that collects the run off while also providing a place to use if the area starts getting hurt by a dry spell. A man made lake?
A suggestion: I would like to see a date range of the videos and projects you do. Its hard to understand and appreciate how long some of these things take.
