This is an example of someone choosing to blame others instead of taking accountability for their own omissions. Foundations are first marked out on the ground before digging. This owner wants to tell us he never paid any attention to his own project at any stages and just kept sending money? Could have been corrected at initial stages before the project went too far. Now the building is dominating the available land and the roofline will actually drain into his neighbours land. This is just irresponsible and you shouldn't be blaming any contractor if you don't care yourself.

This house needs a lift for old age. There are techniques such as vented roof and thermal roofing materials or coating you can put in your roof to deflect heat instead of the tall roof but it is hardly used in Ghana.

It's obviously this man's mistake. Hearing him talk he seems to be a strong willed person. I'm sure someone would have advised against the size but he insisted. Engineers and masons are easy targets for blames. They've built his house he should find a solution for parking and the rest.

The foundation was the issue but the size of the building 1000% my idea simply because I was not going to put a 3-bedroom on a 100 x 70 land. That’s the plan I wanted however I could have went with other plans but I chose this one By the time I got to Ghana, the foundation had already been dug by a machine by the “neighbor Mason “ who swore to God he is a fantastic Mason but I found out it was a lied and he was immediately fired. Believe it or not, he cooked a plan to kill me later because I took the project from him, lol My architect corrected the mistake when he finally had time to come to the site( I invited him several to be there to help them mark the profile but he kept postponing) He had us placed a lot of hidden beams at vantage points to correct the flip. There was a foundation page in the plan but fake Mason couldn’t read it properly and used the first floor design to make the profile

Wow, wow, wow... this house is just too big for the size of the land. Besides, there is too much waste, and I can imagine the enormous amount of money that went into it, plus what the neighbor has chopped 😂😂 The electrician has wasted a lot of cables by creating so many sockets and switches. The best solution here is to convince your neighbors on all four sides of your house to sell you their land in addition to yours. The cracks in the walls and floors must also be investigated to ensure they do not affect the structural integrity of the building.

He also didn’t consult an architect. If he had they would have oriented the house on the land properly, and the contractor would have had to follow suit. It is also good to pay the architect and civil engineer to visit the site at the foundation, lentle and roofing stages.
@ElvisBenson
@ElvisBenson 7 месяцев назад
yes best thing to do when starting a project always involve the architect from scratch.
@Bilegagn
@Bilegagn 7 месяцев назад
Architect was too busy and couldn’t make it there before the foundation was dug and I arrived after that. The architect was the one who pointed out the flaw in the foundation digging and also corrected it by placing several hidden beams at vantages points he thinks he needed. He has been involved since then and yes I pay him to come. Paying him was never the problem, his unavailability was the problem. Yes the space is very small but I kinda knew that before the project started and had it not been the boys quarters that was added later, there would have been enough space in the yard/compound. It was never part of the original project but added as an afterthought

@@Bilegagn so you are to blame for your own negligence, no one else. You knew that this building was way too big for the little bit of land you bought, but you wanted what you wanted. It would be hard to even believe that while this was building that you didn't have videos or pictures as this project moved on. The height on the ground floor is not even tall enough to allow proper air circulation or even to add your POP or to even carry furniture up the stairs. You were ignorant and cheap at the same time. Pray your plumbing is good because, there isn't even space for a plumber to bend down outside those walls to service your plumbing. I am sorry if I come off hard, but you know it is your own ignorance you allowed them to carry this building on to the second floor without correcting it, then you had nerve to add a "boys quarters", really?
@sweetbadd9852
@sweetbadd9852 6 месяцев назад
@@BilegagnI think it was a bad idea to add the outhouse. There's already enough rooms in the main house. Having space on the compound far outweighs the outhouse. See if you can negotiate with your neighbours on both sides to buy a small portion of their land.
@Bilegagn
@Bilegagn 6 месяцев назад
@@nadinedesouza8496 Let’s see: great ideas but you have no clue to how those decisions were made. Opinions are like assholes and everyone has them. The outhouse was an afterthought and one that was needed immediately and I owe no one any answer for the way the house was built. The mistake was only made at the foundation. The ground floor was built 14 courses high before adding a lentil and another two courses I read what most people are saying but every block in that building including the wall is 6-inch block with hollow blocks on the 1st floor

@ElvisBenson
@ElvisBenson 7 месяцев назад
so as an engineer when a client brings “unrealistic idea” what do you have to do?
@dyb2458
@dyb2458 7 месяцев назад
An engineer is expected to evaluate the client's idea, and the feasibility of that idea using sound engineering principles. The engineer is obligated to advise the client where the idea is not consistent with building codes and or local regulations.Also there are building codes. One of the issues is that building permits in Ghana are generally issued without inspection by local permitting agencies. This is sad. Ironically the client/owner continues to pour money into the project. If I were in the client's shoes, I'd engage a qualified engineer to retrofit it as much as practical instead of continuing to build. Good luck

The width I understand and it was supposed to be shrunk a little bit but I knew I had little to nothing width space but I thought the house was going to be oriented towards the road and that didn’t happen. The foundation was profiled and dug before I got to Ghana. My Architect/engineer was not available when the profile was marked out and dug. I allowed the house to be put there (RU-vid) so others can learn not because I didn’t see the failings on the house, I did when the engineer explained them to me. There is ample space on the back and front and those are the sides where exits are located at. I’ve learned a lot from RU-vid and will like others to learn from my mistake but I am happy with how things turned out, though not the best

I will blame the owner for these whole problems. If you have money to build such a huge house why don’t you buy at least 2 plots of land. This hood is not a prime area that you will try to squeeze yourself into it. There’s Plenty of land in Ghana even foreigners are buying huge land at cheaper prices. You don’t need to build in a prime and choked area.

Well Boss, not every room in a house is meant for sleeping! Why do people assume that others build without knowing exactly what they want? If I the owner is happy with it, learn NOT to make the mistakes I made and be happy for me. I learned a lot from RU-vid Ghanaian buildings and it helped avoid many mistakes on this same project. My brother I can assure you I am not trying to show off to anyone. This is the house I wanted and can afford to build it. I am not showing off to anyone. I have one almost the same size in the States for over 20 years and I pretty much used the same design. Please don’t make assumptions if you don’t know me. I don’t care about what others think about me or what I do, just like I don’t bother with what others do. If we point out mistakes or shortcomings, which there are not many here, then I take it but calling me show off is overstepping your boundary and border on haterism.
@nadinedesouza8496
@nadinedesouza8496 6 месяцев назад
@@Bilegagn If you have one in the States nearly the same size, you knew the plot of land for the size house that sits on the one in the states was much bigger. What made you think that a bigger house on a smaller piece of land in Ghana would be ok? Even if you didn't know detailed things about building, you never used your own common sense, you didn't use wisdom, you just wanted what you wanted. You were advised many times I am sure, but you wanted what you wanted and continued building with your eyes wide shut, hoping it would work out. What happens if the Government tells you to knock it down? You would say you have no luck, but you didn't use your own proper judgement.
