I have worn an HRT biweekly patch for the past 22 years after a hysterectomy. I live in Florida, our development has a pool, and I swim 3-5 times per week. I also frequently take Epsom salt baths. I have never had an issue with my patches getting wet in a pool or from taking a bath. I looked it up on line and read the HRT instruction sheet, both said you can take a shower, take a bath and swim with this patch.

Yes however it affected her patch. Perhaps her patch had less adhesive or some kind of barrier to it .. or depends on her skin type maybe if someone has more oily skin, the patch perhaps doesn't stick as well to it . Just because something wasn't the experience of one person doesn't mean that is the rule that applies to everyone else's experience. Just like just because one person isn't allergic to peanuts or a certain cream, doesn't mean that everyone else should not be allergic to peanuts or a certain cream. Glad though seems like your patch is done in your pool.

Good thing you found out about this mishap now. Glad you're feeling better. Your video will help many I'm sure. I never had symptoms that bad when I had menopause. If I had night sweats I just changed clothes and went back to sleep. I was working at a job during those years and I was tired because of lack of sleep. Symptoms lasted at least 15 years. I'm not bothered anymore and I'm still young. I find it important to walk. I walk my dog twice a day. I keep busy in kitchen. I like to work with crafting. Always keep moving at some point. Sitting is good too. That's when I work on knitting, crochet, sewing just for an hour . You'll be ok don't worry. It gets better in time.

I used the estrogen patch for several years and it just became a nuisance. Next was a measured dose spray inside the elbow, next a cream. Finally, I went to compounded pill (Mexican wild yam and two types of bioidentical estrogen). By far, the easiest for me and works the best. I bet you switch down the road. My HRT has helped my joint pain so much, my energy and my mood. I noticed the difference when I went off for one year. I love my HRT❤

I looked at the FAQ (on GoodRx) on the Estradiol patch and the answer to the question “Can I swim or take a bath while wearing the patch?” is “It depends. You shouldn’t swim, take a bath or use a sauna if you use the once-weekly version of the estradiol patch, as this could affect how your body absorbs the medication. These activities are safe to do if you use the twice-weekly patches.” So an alternative to applying the bandage on top, is to use the twice-weekly version in the summer and switch back to the weekly in non-swimming weather. I’m not yet in need of the patch, but not too far behind you, Renee. Sorry that you had to learn this the difficult way, but THANK YOU for sharing so that others can learn it before issues arise. You’ve helped many! ❤

I’ve started reading the full drug inserts - those papers with the tiny print - because they reveal interesting and helpful information. I wish pharmacists and docs had enough time to review all the details with us on our meds, but they don’t. I’ve caught some other “mistakes” this way. I’d rather take the 5 minutes and magnifying glass out than find out the consequences of not knowing later. I’ll give you an example: my simple allergy med (Allegra aka fexofenadine HCl) shouldn’t be taken with fruit juice because the juice inhibits absorption of the drug to a very high extent. Imagine spending that money and time trying to fix your allergy symptoms but inadvertently sabotaging it because you took it with your morning juice. Knowledge is power! 🤓

You're not silly or stupid. I've worked in healthcare for over 40 years, and I never would've thought that the patches weren't waterproof. Your family doctor sounds like a gem; shame on your gyn/surgeon who failed to tell you about the crucial contraindication for the patch. Pharmacists are the best source of information about meds; whenever you get a new prescription filled, you should ask the following: 1) Is there anything I shouldn't be doing/eating/taking while on this medication?, and 2) Are there any side effects I should be on the lookout for?

@@ddmontg3402 there are several gynecologists on RU-vid that discuss HRT for women more than ten years post menopause. It is safe , it is effective, it is recommended. I believed Menopause Taylor when she said "the ten year window of opportunity is all you have". Now, I believe the several other gynos that say otherwise. Check for yourself, listen to multiple sources, then make your own decisions. Best wishes.

I used to be on the patch but then, for some weird reason, I started to have a rash type reaction so I switched over to estrogen cream. I apply it to my upper arm area and alternate arms every day! This could be an option for women who don’t want to wear the patch. 😊

OMGoodness! I LOVE LONG SOAKS IN THE TUB!!! I had no idea my patch isn't waterproof. I remember my mom needed to use "Tegaderm" films over her IV port. They sell them on Amazon in different sizes. They're SUPER thin like a second skin and completely clear. They should be perfect for this. 🤦🏻‍♀️😌

Body temperature water from a bath wouldn't harm the patch, but hot water does drain the medicine very quickly. I can’t usually get them to re-stick well if they fall off, but if you can remove it before a bath and get it to stick back on after, that would be your best bet. A tepid bath wouldn’t do much for me!

After 2 years of trying various things to help my fibroid issue, I decided with my doctor that a hysterectomy will be the best route for me. I’ve been a ball of emotions. @Sade09, I had my fibroids removed years ago & I don’t regret it at all. I’ve been on the estrogen patch for a little over a year. I use them off & on cause my skin seems to be allergic to it. It itch & it leaves a mark on my tummy. I have to use vitamin C to clear the dark spot.

The doctor who first put me on estradiol patch said she was on the mini dot, which sounds like yours. She was saying how she loves it because it was so small and she can swim with it. I could not afford that one, so I am on the generic patch which is a little larger. I was putting them on my lower stomach, but found they would come off too easily. So I put them now just a little above the hips. Thank God I don't know how to swim.🤗

Hi Renee, I was on the same patch at one time and it didn’t seem to help much, but I take a lot of baths. Now I’m questioning whether or not I was absorbing it. I’m on an estrogen cream topically and still not sleeping well. I may have to go back to an oral pill. Thank you for sharing 💕💕💕

Don't take responsibility for the manufacturer of the patch - they should have clearly pointed that out on the back of the box or the insert. Also, your doctor's and their staff are negligent for not telling you how to apply it and maintain it. You did everything correctly. I think all of us would have done the same as you. I am sure your doctors who live in the same climate as you and probably all have backyard pools and should have known that you did also and should have instructed you accordingly. You should write the manufacturers a letter to suggest they make a waterproof patch for people to use who swim in a pool or go on vacation and swim in the ocean or a hotel pool. Glad everything is back to normal for you.
