Watch Part 1 here: • My Hyperacusis Success...
DISCLAIMER: I am not a medical professional. The purpose of this video is not to give medical advice - it is to share my experience with hyperacusis and tinnitus and how I personally recovered. If you have hyperacusis, I recommend you contact a neuro-otologist and audiologist in your area.
Instructions from my audiologist:
1. Don’t wear hearing protection (earplugs) in regular listening environments (i.e. those where volume level stays below 85 dB), even if being in those environments causes discomfort.
2. Avoid completely silent environments for long periods; instead, listen to white or pink noise-either through speakers or a white noise masker machine.
3. Just because you have hyperacusis, your ears are no more susceptible to damage from sound exposure than those of someone who does not have hyperacusis! - THIS IS CRUCIAL!
Instructions from rehab psychologist:
1. Reduce hypervigilant behavior ex. Don't tease up/brace yourself for sound - take a deep breath if you're about to be exposed to a sudden abrupt noise. Learn to relax your body in normal sound environments below 85db
2. Modify your lifestyle in order to get back to the things you did before you got hyperacusis. Ex. finding ways around doing certain things such as listening to music at a low volume, exercising outside or from home, going to restaurants during non-busy times, being seated in quieter areas, and educating loved ones about your condition
3. Stop researching and spending all your time browsing through hyperacusis forums and support groups. There is a lot of incorrect information floating around and the majority of the information is negative. Remember that the population of hyperacusis sufferers online only represent a small population of all the everyone who has hyperacusis/had hyperacusis and recovered.

Hi Adam, thanks for making this video. I developed hyperacusis / TTTS a few months ago after a long history of ear complications. I'm currently feeling very isolated and as a professional musician, my work has suffered enormously. It's crippling. But I am going to try and do everything I can to get better.

@@katerinakaterinaki9143 true but some do. Here’s one: Letter from Federico a musician in Italy who suffered noise trauma given with his permission to share: Yes, I kept on performing even with tinnitus, but it was very very difficult for me at least for the first months. Not because of tinnitus itself, but because of the fear that I might injure myself again after that accident and that I could get worse. Basically I lost confidence in my body. I became noise-phobic for a while, also due to the fact that the accident procured me hyperacusis. I also had lost pleasure in making music or listening to it, therefore it was the psychological aspect of fear rather than the actual danger that made it difficult to play and perform. In any case, the accident was in a certain way useful because it made me more careful about my hearing. Then, with time and patience, self-confidence came back, hyperacusis went away, tinnitus went down and love for music came back! The reappearance of tinnitus forced me to make choices and therefore cut out other "unnecessary" commitments that were in fact overwhelming me and distracting me from what I cared most about. As a result, a few months later I released my band's second album! :-) Now I always wear ear protection during rehearsals and during gigs and if I'm wearing headphones I am careful to keep the volumes lower. I started by using custom made ear-plugs: they are made of silicone and have a small plastic filter inside that brings the overall loudness down in an evenly, so that the quality of what you hear is practically the same. Mine are manufactured by this german company: otoplastik.dreve.de/en/products/ It was tricky to find the best technical solution, because in my band (Didols) I mostly sing and using these earplugs made it extremely difficult because all you hear is your inner voice. So I tried in-ear monitoring, and this made it for me: I use Shure ear monitors (I think SE215 CL) that provide very good isolation from external noise and allow me to use very low volumes so that I can hear my voice and all the instruments, and this is totally working because after the gigs I am not at all ear-fatigued. In other projects, where I mostly play keyboards, I use the silicone plugs. Then if I have to sing a song or two I just remove them and even if the music gets loud for a moment it's not a big deal :-) About diet, when I had the hearing trauma in 2018 I went into a form of self-starvation, partly because of the depression that came along with tinnitus, partly because I thought that diet could influence my condition. I totally cut out salt, coffee, alcohol, sugars, carbs and stimulants in general and kept very well hydrated. I lost a LOT of weight, but not the right way. In my opinion, having a healthy diet makes your body function better, therefore it has a positive effect on tinnitus. But I am convinced that psychological well being is even more important, so if dieting becomes a form of self-deprivation, then it will be counterproductive. I cannot stress enough how important it is to find a self-soothing routine in order to get better with tinnitus. As for now, I eat a little bit of everything and my tinnitus is really low so I am fine! I kept the good habit of not drinking too much, though 🙂

Your story helped me a lot, I started using the sound of pink and brown noise and it helped me. I had Hyperacusis from a sound trauma from firecracker, after few months when I got better I had another sound trauma at the same ear (bad luck really) and my improvement was also very slow and painful, with a lots of set backs, and days in pain. I got better after 5 months. I still have some fears around louder sounds, but my hyperacusis is gone, and your story helped me through. Sending much love, hope you stay safe, thank you.

@@williamperri3437 ok I’m here and I’m a musician vocalist drummer too and had several people say this will go over time. Julian said don’t give up on music. Liam cured his T. But it takes time to retrain the brain. I too have a list of things that can help. Maybe we should compare notes. How are you doing now?

@@williamperri3437 do you know about Liam Stops Tinnitus who had noise trauma from drums and healed himself? Your story is heartbreaking but I see you’re still open to healing which is good. Please look into upper cervical. It may be your Atlas is out. A misaligned Atlas puts the whole neural system off and creates many illnesses and of course T. Also, diet, exercise, sleep and a positive attitude and ignoring it are very important to heal T. I’m now having Atlas adjustments for a neck issue which is helping but (pandemic) stress is definitely a major factor. Apple AirPods may also be the cause as they’ve had a lot of complaints. I use electronic drums at home as I’m now a lead vocalist but I’ve only played twice since last April when T came on. I use musician earplugs under my headphones while I play. Not very exciting but it worked the one time I tried it. My grandads last name was Perry with a ‘y’. You can check out our band Psychedelicblue.com. Check out our drummer’s solo on ‘Whipping Post’. Any videos of you let me know. I don’t meet many drummers so this is cool.
@melodyebuskin5490
@melodyebuskin5490 3 года назад
@@williamperri3437 for what it’s worth here’s info I’ve collated over the last ten months: Tinnitus Explanation and Links From what I’ve researched on the internet through articles, videos and comments I have discovered that tinnitus or ringing in the ears can be the result of noise, head, physical and/or emotional trauma, high blood pressure, dental problems like bruxism (teeth grinding) or TMJ (jaw clenching) at night while sleeping, excessive ear wax or ear infection or other ear related issues, stress and anxiety, certain medications, Epstein Barr, Menier’s or other illnesses, EMF’s from WIFi/5G or upper cervical subluxated Atlas and Axis (C1 and C2) neck related issues and even chemicals from hair dyes, personal care products and cosmetics, certain allergies to foods, Salicylates, oxalates, lectins (otherwise known as Plant Paradox), bad diet or nutritional and/or vitamin and mineral deficiencies like vitamin C, zinc, iron, iodine, magnesium, D3 and K, and even parasites. Some people also believe it’s part of the ascension process into a higher frequency and that it’s the sound of angels, higher beings, the cosmos or God communicating with them through their hearing. The standard explanation is that the brain is basically in fight or flight mode and you’re hearing your own nervous system on red alert. It can fix itself over time by using a process called habituation which is accepting it and getting used to the sound and/or neuroplasticity which is fundamentally rewiring the brain and creating new neural pathways by training it not to hear the sound which makes it recede into the background and eventually disappears because the brain sees that it is no longer a threat and as unimportant. This is achieved through the repetition of positive mental affirmations, visualization and relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, yoga, Qi gong and/or exercise and/or neck release exercises called trigger point therapy, upper cervical chiropractic adjustments and/or regular chiropractic, certain dental procedures which involve the use of mouth guards and jaw releasing, relaxation and massage exercises, cranial sacral therapy, EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique also known as ‘tapping’, hypnotherapy, visualization, and other body and mind relaxation therapies and/or masking with nature sounds or pink noise. What can also help is reducing/removing some or all coffee, teas, sodas, alcohol, salt, sugar, spices, condiments, dairy, carbs, nuts, seeds, the night shade family of veggies, salicylates and oxylates from the diet and intermittent, 24 or 48 hour wet or dry fasting. Some people see results whether they’re vegan, vegetarian or meat eaters and even some do none of the above and still get better over time. Still, the majority of what I’ve read and seen in videos is that a healthy diet, stress reducing exercises and ignoring the sound so the brain can retrain itself not to hear it have the most impact on reducing and healing T. Some people have had relief or have been cured by taking these supplements: D3 combined with K2 and Magnesium and/or Bioflavanoids combined with Vit C, B12 (also known as Methycobalamine or Methyl B12), Methyl Folate, Niacin (Flush Free), Taurine and Ginko Biloba. I have a dosage schedule available if you decide to try these supplements. A comment from Elann Suvat on one of Julian Cowan Hill’s videos: “As others have said do not go on Tinnitus Talk. In fact do not google anything. Tinnitus is a symptom of a neurological condition that can be resolved. Learn to rewire your brain through helpful videos such as this one. Reduce stress and disrupt chronic stress, get down to the root of your anxiety and depression, rewire your brain not to be sensitive or hypersensitive to environmental noise and life around you.” “It can be done. It can be reversed. One key thing about tinnitus is not to have anger, hate, stress, fixation on it. It will only make it worse and allow it to stay. Do not give your tinnitus power. Embrace it. Think of your tinnitus as a bodily noise that’s telling you your body is alive and busy healing. It’s telling you something important. Find the root cause. Is it neurological, physiological or both? Do away with negativity and toxic relationships. Diet and lifestyle are extremely important. Sleep, reduction of stress, EXERCISE, having positive social relationships, working toward a move of happiness and relaxation every day. Be kind, compassionate, patient and authentic to yourself. This is crucial. Be courageous.” And from another person: Check out Julian Cowan Hill, Liam Stops Tinnitus, James Karthaus, Peter Studenik and Joey Remenyi and many others in the video compilation list below. They all healed from tinnitus using their own (and sometimes combined) techniques. Get Grounded in Your Body -Get on the floor -Walk barefoot in nature -Hug a tree -Hug your pets, your loved ones -Use a grounding mat -Hold, play, meditate or sleep with crystals or stones -Do gardening or outside chores -Breathe in fresh air -Get at least 15 mins of sunshine every day; if you can’t then take D3 with K2 and magnesium 3. Avoid negative people and situations 4. Ease off / avoid stimulants -Caffein -Teas (even herbal; ginger tea is ok as it promotes blood flow) -Sugar (Paleo/Keto diet removes carbs=sugar) -Chocolate -Salt - Drink filtered water 5. Meditate - Sitting or walking meditation 6. Deep Breathing 7. Let Negative Thoughts Pass 8. Mindfulness 9. Self Massage -Face, Head, Neck 10. Lighten Up - Yawning, Laughing, Singing, Humming, Whistling 11. Baths / Showers - Steam 12. Turning on / off Hot / Cold Showers 13. Slow Walking 14. Fasting - Intermittent - late lunch or dinner - One day a week or every two weeks water or dry fast - 3 day water fast 15. Protect Auditory Environment - Keep earphone / headphone volume low - Avoid loud environments, places or gatherings - Wear earplugs 16. I believe I have also got hyperacusis at the moment, I've had it for the last few weeks, I think mine has been caused from listening to music for so long at a high volume, Since I was kid I would constantly listening to music on my headphones, and now I'm wearing them (without playing any music) to avoid day to day sounds, how ironic! been to the doctors which led to me finding out I had a perforated ear drum, which has now healed, but still sensitive to sound which I can only think is hyperacusis, been referred to see an ear specialist at the hospital and just waiting for a date for the tests, where I hope I can begin my journey to recovery? but from this video I had found out useful tips and information and I have already taken my headphones off and beginning to relax more to day to day sounds, so thanks for uploading this video, has been a big help already, oh and I also suffer from tinnitus, more annoying that painful though haha, thanks again.

I got Hyperiakusis first time after a extremely loud sound from a huge metal door slammed into metal frame. used the TRT method for many months and got almost 100% fixed. this was back in 2013. got dizzy some months after I got Hyperiakusis most likely due to stress. the Hyperiakusis has returned (April 2017) most likely due to excessive stress and thoughts of sounds being "loud". started using the TRT sound generator again, and hopefully it will be better within a few months::) cheers from Norway

Thank you for this highly detailed and informative story. So glad you came out of this. You mentioned a doctor in Chicago. Can you please give their name and contact info? I too had hypercusis and T for about 8 months after listening to Airpods and wrenching my neck dancing at the beginning of the pandemic. I cut down on sugar, salt, carbs, alcohol, meditated, yoga, deep breathing and over time the H went away. I’m now able to hear doors slamming, trucks backfiring, etc. garage door opening with no issues now. I also went to an Atlas Upper Cervical Chiro and found I’d had decades old whiplash which resurfaced during the dancing. Neck issues can cause T and Atlas/upper cervical Chiro can help heal it. Just the T remains. I used pink noise after reaching out to Peter Studenik who healed his T. I did not follow the pink noise protocol so after watching this I’ll be going back to using pink noise every day as I’ve also read and watched several people who healed using pink noise which changes the neurotransmitters in the brain and stops the ringing by turning the brain’s attention away from it.

Thanks for this video. It's given me confidence in my ability to recover. My hyperacusis is still mild but was worse when it started. What I believe helped me in making it better was that I continued listening to music quietly and have an air purifier which I keep on 24/7 in my room for another issue I have (chronic asthma), I set it on quiet and it whirrs in the background which I did not like at first but gradually got used to. With your video I've realised I've been overprotecting my hearing which I will refrain from doing from now on, and I do believe now with this advice I'll be able to completely cure it. Thanks

@@theoron6514 Hi Theo, honestly roughly the same as before. At the time I was doing better because I was at work, which sort of forced me to be around more noise which in turn started to help desensitize my hyperacusis. Because of my working from home situation that happened due to covid, it's taken some steps back but it's still manageable. My biggest advice would be to take steps slowly to desensitize, don't do too much too quickly as that's how I had major setbacks before. I truly believe it's all about introducing a little more sound over time (especially ambient sound), and try your best to continue doing the things you enjoy even if you do have to wear earplugs (I personally wear Etymotics ER20s, they attenuate the noise, but not quite as heavily as your standard foam earplugs and sound much better). Many times I feel, if you have to wear earplugs to do things, it's better than not doing those things at all. Noise exposure with earplugs helps too IMO. Some tips I've learnt in my journey: 1. Avoid binge eating sugar - this has a noticeable affect on my tinnitus and hearing sensitivity. If I push my tolerances after really binging on sugar, my ears will have a much harder time. 2. Avoid caffeine - this is much the same as my issue with sugar, it just exacerbates everything.

@ChildrenOfDesire
@ChildrenOfDesire 3 года назад
@@theoron6514 Hi Theo, my best advice would be to give yourself atleast a week or two to avoid any situations that are uncomfortable for your hearing. That will give your ears some time to heal. When I have a set back, I found the best way for me to heal is to give it some time to heal at first, then afterwards introduce regular sound again. I find this is the case, because initially right after you have a flareup/setback, the next couple of days or up to a week are particularly sensitive. During this time you should try not to push yourself too hard. Usually in a week or two you'll go back to baseline, at that point you can start slowly introducing more and more sound eventually. Also, don't worry so much about the 85db number - this is a number which is most useful as a guideline for those with regular hearing, people with Hyperacusis have lowered thresholds for what is considered loud. Trust your instinct as to what you personally feel is too much. The absolute key to recovery is to very slowly push yourself to increase this level through slowly introducing higher levels of noise, this should never feel more than a little uncomfortable. If you're pushing yourself to the point where it begins to burn in your ear or hurt, you should dial it down. Hope this helps

Hi Adam, Thanks a lot for making this video! i am suffering from tinnitus and hyperacusis for 10 days now. It was caused by having the sound of my earphones too loud when playing a video game that night. I have been very anxious and depressed about it and all the negativity on the internet had given me little hope. just as in your case everyday sounds like ringing of plates, silverware, the singing of certain birds etc. are uncomfortable for me to hear and some even hurt a little. I also experienced the aural fullness in the beginning and suffer from tinnitus (luckily its hardly noticeable). Your story has made me feel a lot better and has given me faith in my recovery. I have spoken to a doctor and he told me to just wait it out and that it should return in a week. Thanks for your tips, i will follow them and try to keep my anxiety down.

I pretty much got hyperacusis the same way you did. I was playing war game called Americas Army in 2008. I had headphones on when a grenade blew up near me. I went to bed with loud ringing .It continued for two weeks before hyperacusis closed in. I used trt and sound therapy for 5 years before a total recovery. Did you recover in 2 weeks? It would be a miracle if you did.

Thank you so much for your videos, I’ve been sitting with my TV on mute for a few weeks now, and only turning up to a max of 8% when there has been something I wanted to watch on, only an hour or so a day, but starting tomorrow I’m gonna start leaving my TV on the volume I used to leave it on when I didn’t have this, 5% when I’m not watching and 10% when I am watching, and watch my phone at 50% volume (phone speaker) instead of the 20% I’ve been doing since, I’m also going to begin going to my supermarket daily again like I used too, to get used to road sounds and groups of people. The only time I used any kind of earphones before was for 5-10 hours a week gaming at moderate volume, so hopefully I can build up enough tolerance that I can attempt to game again, which is what I love... I’m gonna try it until I finally hear from the ENT I have been referred too.

Thank you so much for the video Adam, this made me feel quite relieved. As of right now i am not sure if i have got hypercarusis since i got a cold, but certainly i am sensitive to noise, only a bit luckily. Even before my cold i have been more sensitive to noise than other people, i made an appointment with a doctor but if that doesn't turn out to much i will seek further help from an e.n.t. I just wish that they won't tell me what i've been hearing before, that there is no cure to it and that i have to live with it. Anyways, wish you all the best in the future. Also, I heard people complain before about taking airplane rides and getting problems with their hearing, weird!

Thank you for sharing your journey, I have what seems to be hyperacusis after a cold a month ago though this is new I am worried I have been to two ents I will be giving another 1-2 ents and possibly neurologist a chance to look as well as an experienced audiologist ... so far the worst sounds are the faucet running and toilet as well as some music and sharp sounds... anyways I have had a hearing test and supposedly am within normal range... doctor said he expects my hearing nerve is inflamed and will take time to go down ... but I digress I’m suspicious it’s tinnitus and hyperacusis ... so if I don’t see improvement in a couple weeks will begin doing the therapy and I will use your advice to stick with your 3 rules ... thank you for sharing

Thanks Adam for the information. I don’t feel a pain more so a shock into my head from sounds not every sound just like kitchen sound and cracking of paper. I feels like when the sound shocks my head as if a seizure Would happen but it’s just s shock to the nerves i Guess in my head/ears. Ears get a weird feeling can’t describe it but almost nervy slight fuzzy feeling. This condition came out of no where bam! Causing me to feel anxiety and slightly depressed. I think b it insane a connection to lack of sleep or sleep deprivation. I haven’t slept well in years and I feel as though the nerves in my head get a buzz or electric charge that some how have that connection to my hearing. All in all think it’s a neurological issue with the nerve endings in the head brain and ears. I pray for us ask . Thanks again Adam!

If you have Hyperacusis some people say always protect your ears at all costs and don't ever use sound therapy. Others say use sound therapy (pink noise) but don't over use ear protection for normal day sounds/activities as it becomes more sensitive... Obviously in loud places use protection. What do we do? Example being here..: "Wearing hearing protection making hyperacusis worse is a bullshit lie made up by TRT enthusiasts. You absolutely MUST protect your ears and be in silence to recover. Sound therapy makes hyperacusis worse. STOP doing sound therapy, PROTECT your ears as much as possible, AVOID loud environments at all costs, and most importantly give yourself time. The reason your hyperacusis is getting worse is because you aren't protecting enough".
