I'm really enjoying these blogs. They're really ad libbed, light-hearted, and very conversational. Just you and me, like we're enjoying the moments with together. Keep it up, you're doing good stuff!

These vlogs are doing so much more for the tourism board than the images alone ever would

It's actually quite nice getting to watch a new video every day, for a change. :)

I'm loving these videos. I have to confess that I was one that voted for a single longer video because you are so good at those, but I think its great to see some of the things that you would not have put into a longer-form video, and to see some of the obstacles that you encountered. I appreciate that you've stepped out of your comfort zone a bit to deliver these videos.

No alcohol is a huge help. I cut way back to almost none when we had children. Now I don't miss it at all. But, it was great not waking up to toddlers with a hangover back then. Looks like quite the adventure! Have a great weekend.

You win some, you lose some, and some get rained out. But regardless of which way it goes you suck it up and get ready for the next one. That's just the way it is and you're doing well, Thomas, keeping your head in the game.

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to ride my motorbike down through Spain, through the Sierra Nevada mountains to Granada and along the coast to Gibraltar, up to Ronda and back up to the North Coast. We met some lovely people and enjoyed some of the best views and riding roads I have ever experienced in 30 + years of riding. Fantastic memories. Keep up the good work and enjoy Spain.

I love this series Tom, I generally count the days until a video arrives on a Wednesday from you so daily ones for a week has been fantastic but also it’s very entertaining and candid content and great to see how the process goes for you on one of these work trips. My wife and I are loving these videos. I always watch them on my Panasonic tv to get the best quality footage. Thanks Thomas, your videos are always amazing and personable.

Long lens wildlife photography trick is to put your left hand on top of the lens over the tripod mount & apply some downward pressure. I like to put my hand just out front of the tripod foot why holding the camera firmly putting a slight downward pressure. Helps with wind. Not sure it would be good enough for your landscape photos but worth a try if ever in the same conditions.

Gavin Hardcastle recommends the Guinness supplement. I can’t argue with that! I think his images are still sharp. Can’t tell properly, I’m a bit pissed🤣 I do recommend editing and in particular cropping images after a couple of beers. I see things differently and in a good way amazingly 🤣👍📸

Keep enjoying the daily vlogs Thomas. It is not necessary to do this all the time but once in a while a switch to daily vlogging brings different style that fits with your content! Hope to see more of it in the future.

The "mountain hut" is actually an observatory. The two domes are probably what house telescopes.

Another great vlog What a challenging one. At least you got good image's the next day dispite the wind. No wonder you couldn't sleep after seeing what you thought was your best shot of the day, but at least it worked out well for you. Look forward to the next one.

I love Andalucia, especially the Granada area. I lived there for 3 months. I hope the Alambra is on your list of places to photograph. In the summer the roses were everywhere in the city.

Same supplement routine I've had for a while now. Being Keto, it's important to get all the macros and vitamins/minerals. Electrolytes are not optional. Really digging this vlog style. Bet you'll be done with it for a while when this is all done 😁 Great work, once again!

I like the fact that you mentioned health and energy. As photographers, we definitely need to look after ourselves even more with carrying heavy things and jumping up and down haha. I have recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which causes chronic fatigue so I am taking all you mentioned plus other things too! I never thought about these things before but now I need to otherwise I won't be able to do many shoots. Also, whenever I've had something out of focus, I find turning the image into black and white can really help... sometimes...

Hey, Thomas. I'm in the camp that likes these style of vlogs: I'm definitely a "behind the scenes" kinda guy, and these are really interesting. I've just been watching your Patagonia vids from 5 years ago and feel they are a similar style, which I really enjoy.

I stand to be corrected but I sensed a hint of self doubt creeping in there, (eg. not getting the shot! ). You are one of the worlds top landscapers...that's why they chose you! Even your "nearly" images are better than most people would get in those conditions! Loving the episodes 👍

Thomas, adding a bit of black pepper with that turmeric will help the body absorb it much better than without.

Think we have to give credit to the Andalusia regional authorities (tourist board?) for doing something like this to promote their region. I think regions at home (in the UK) could learn a thing or two here). I’m enjoying these, ‘rather different to the norm for this channel’, videos. It’s good to shake things up once in a while for a project like this.

Really enjoying this series, I don't feel quite so bad now having spent three weeks during 2023 in Mallorca trying various types of photography, from wildlife to astro and landscape, and being frustrated by the weather 🤯

What you've shown in the video looks like very good stills. As to the wind causing motion and vibration (12:00), I would not be afraid to crank the Z 8 up to ISO 1,600 in your case. If the images show "noise" then don;t blame the camera, but work from the hypothesis that it is inadequate or failed raw processing. Adobe added "AI Denoise" into ACR [1] this year and was late to supporting higher MP cameras that do not have an OLPF. If you don't like the results from AI Denoise, then try Topaz's DeNoise AI or DxO's "DeepPRIME" algorithm that is part of their PhotoLab and stand-alone as a plug-in in PureRAW. The 45.4MP Nikons are constant ISO with two amplification levels. The first amplification level is up to almost ISO 400 and between lowest and almost ISO 400, noise runs up a bit. Then at 400, noise falls back to the level of ISO 100 again with the higher amplification level. ISO 1,600 is only 2 EV above 400. The assumption underlying this kind of camera, my guess, is that we use higher ISO at lower light levels when there's less contrast, and consequently we need less "contrast envelope" (the usable dynamic range available to one shot). If the higher ISO works out, in contrast envelope terms (so you don't have to bracket and stack later), then the now reduced contrast envelope reduces the risk of motion blur. The Z 8 will do, my guess, its IBIS in firmware, by the way, for motions in the sensor plane. Actuators moving the sensor have latency and such a system has inertia, so doing IBIS in software must be the reason why the Z 8/9 have such incredibly good IBIS. For sharpness and detail retrieval, ACR [1] is not the best, and I suggest trying to upsample your image to 32,000 on the long side with Topaz's Gigapixel AI if you want to see what's really in there. [1] ACR - Adobe Camera Raw - is the raw processor of Adobe that does the work in Lightroom Classic (LrC) and Photoshop (Ps). In LrC's UI, ACR is hidden under the Develop tab, in Ps it is run as plug-in in its own UI. From Adobe Bridge, you can run ACR stand-alone (right click and in the pop-up menu click to open the selected image in ACR). Your edits in there will be non-destructive in .XMP files (a preference setting in Bridge). Not sure why, but ACR may also add .acr files next to .XMP.

I have to say, you can do daily vlog!

In situations like that, I would also turn on stabilization, even though it goes against what people say for tripods. It might help with the sharpness (not always gauranteed but worth a try).

You can raise the ISO above 500. On today's cams you can go way higher than that if you need to with little loss of quality. It certainly beats motion blur.

Who knew Spain has bad weather aye! haha! Got some nice shots regardless of the wind, etc though! looking forward to seeing that image tomorrow and what AI you used to fix it.

Awesome shots Thomas! Getting me excited for my trip to Spain in the spring, only I'm shooting a wedding instead of mountains for a change. Question for you since you seem to be reaching for the 100-400 a lot. Do you really find the long end worth the extra size and weight compared to a 70-200? Just seems so often I'm more limited by haze or smoke from fires and it's tough to get anything that isn't too tight or too far at those lengths. Obviously works for you though!

Liking the vlogs! (not that I don't like your other vids, but you do a good job of vlogging)

Turmeric ( or the active ingredient curcumin) is fat soluble so best taken with oils ( the cod liver oil will help, but the absorption is also vastly increased when incorporated with black pepper.

bit of hope there at the end that you have salvaged the day Thomas although I have to say that square crop mono was a stunner. Was wondering have you or will you be submitting many mono images to the client once?

To be honest, the topic of health is one of the most important and no one talks about it and yes, I ask myself about it almost daily. How do they last with so much travel?

30 years of teaching has taught me a few things. Usually I learned the hard way! When I am teaching multiple days I set up my schedule so that I will lead a group in the morning OR at night BUT not both. For classroom teaching I will teach a class in the afternoon (2 or 3 hours max) if I am also taking a group out shooting. It takes way too much out of a teacher to be going from 5am till 10pm for days. People don't understand that teaching is a real workout. ADD to that many times I am helping the students with their shooting so I am moving constantly. Meals can be an informal Q&A time if I am with the students so I have to be careful to eat something. MY BIG THING IS DRINK A LOT OF WATER!!!! Then you can get a break when you have to go to the bathroom 🤣🤣🤣

The “not drink any alcohol” only works if you normally do drink alcohol. If you never drink any alcohol in the first place anyway, that doesn’t give you any extra boost

Vitamin D supplements are useful, too but MUST be accompanied by vitamin K. Zinc is also important for the immune system. Magnesium citrate is best avoided, unless you are constipated. Magnesium glycate is far more easily metabolised than most of the many other forms of magnesium supplements.

I can see it's a struggle photographing every days morning and evening Thomas. I wonder what your conclusion will be after this week.
