Great video Don, I currently work for a tech startup and felt this within the first few months of working, especially that feeling of "Oh shit I don't know this and keep getting assigned stuff I feel clueless, I'm definitely going to get fired if I don't figure this out." Your experience really resonated with me.

That's awesome to hear that it's helped. So many people feel this way when starting out. And then time passes and everything is still okay.

Definitely needed this video. I'm starting my first dev role in 2 weeks and it's on what seems to be a mid-level salary in the UK (which is still lower than any US junior salary) and I'm definitely feeling the pressure before even going in. Like you said, I didn't lie in the interview or on my CV and they know my experience so I shouldn't have anything to worry about but I still feel like I'm going to need to bring a spare pair of pants on my first day!😅

Love the integrity. You just need a solid pair of pants to match it and you got this.

Anything that challenges you, whether it be mental or physical, will teach you about yourself and reveal your weaknesses, allowing you to identify them. This, in turn, empowers you to take action, gaining more skills and experience to add to your toolkit. Building resilience and character presents the opportunity to earn your keep and go to sleep at night knowing that today you have given it your all. And remember, you are enough, you have always been enough, and you will be enough. Cheers.

An insightful video.Thanks. I want to add that honesty is really underrated by job seekers. Also, learning is a lifelong path, and so are struggles.

This was nice! It was really interesting to hear your personal experiences and challenges. I like how you realized that some weaknesses were actually strengths. “Everytime I looked something up or googled it…I thought that was a weakness…it wasn’t”. This is really relatable. Sometimes the troubleshooting/search/debug process IS the very skill that employers seek and we’re just not even realizing that we’re naturally doing that skill already. 😅. Another thing I liked was the talk about teamwork and how ego can destroy team chemistry. We should always try to make someone else better in addition to our own selves. It was also interesting to hear how the first day expectations went. Many of us will keep that in our mental bookmarks to come in handy. My favorite part was the part about Imposter syndrome and how it shouldn’t be considered “normal”. It was great that you mentioned how it is something that needs to be debugged - outside of the dev world - because it is a personal root issue. I believe this to be true. There are bugs that need to be addressed in our personal life like this. They can go unnoticed and cause errors everywhere. You could devote all your time into becoming a better dev and still get blindsided by things like that. I’d be guilty if I said I didn’t need to work on it myself 😅. It’s a great eye opener. Thanks for sharing! Great video Don! This added a couple things to my roadmap. 🫡

I think you’d be fine making content like this. I just watch other video of what you should do with your channel. I mean doesn’t need to be said, but don’t turn into a mountain biking channel lol. But you’re definitely go to guy for all things developer, so I think you’d be fine talking about anything related to the industry. Good or bad etc. great work on this video
