My Inner Demons (Rin vs Moka - Vocal Version ft.  

Commissioner here. So fun fact about this track, this is getting a second vocal version. I originally paid for this to be a duet, with one singer representing Rin and the other representing Moka, but there was a miscommunication between Yates and one of the guest singers, which is why there's only one. So I contacted Yates on Twitter, and he apologized for the mix-up and told me he'd release the vocal commission I had asked for. This actually kind of works in my favor, since I'm trying to promote this matchup enough so that people want it more. Funny how things work out sometimes.

I haven't heard about Rosario Vampire in years, what a blast from the past

Now this vocal version really shows the inner demon.

Once again the addition of vocals really elevate an already great track. The chanting in the background at points also adds a sense of danger, this fight doesn't sound like it's going to be a simple spar between both combatants.

Was very curious when I first saw this given that My Inner Demons is a song I really liked when the instrumental first released. And this one got me so interesting that I actually looked up the characters' backstories given I hadn't done it yet. So I was really surprised when the result of the lyrical additions was... Actually pretty mixed. I am starting to feel like maybe something is wrong with me given I've had issues with the last three vocal tracks that released but still, this one just doesn't fully click with me. I've even listened to it a bit less than ten times before even starting to write this to make sure I got actually used to the track but it didn't fix the issue entirely (altho I did get used to it a bit and it's better than on my first listen). Given I don't want to be too negative, I'll start with the singular and main issue the song has: a good portion of the vocals just don't fit with the song. Will it be the instrumental or other vocals themselves. This almost only affects the verses (and not all of them) but at some points it just makes me wince how out of tune the vocals sound compared to the rest of the song. This is due to absolutely no fault of the vocalist of course, I'll come back to it later but LadyIgiko's performance is wonderful. But the way some lines are delivered just does not work with the instrumental and conflicts way too much. The instrumental has a very organized, altho constantly shifting, and intense feeling to it at most points while the lyrics have vastly inconsistent intensity and speed while also having a vastly unorganized feeling to them which you'd think would complete the instrumental but instead it just clashes with it and not in a really good way like, let's say, God's Fang. The most striking example of that is the 2:54-3:00 segment. The first loop it of the verse it has (the one right before that segment) is frankly greatly delivered and fits perfectly with the song as it follows in the instrumental's steps (both are relatively low pitched organized and tense-sounding bits) but then the second loop of the verse comes and for some reason its pitch increases absolutely massively in its end which, while I do understand it's an attempt at displaying LadyIgiko's fantastical vocal range, just doesn't work here. Instead it ends up making her otherwise great voice sound almost comical in the worst of ways and just forced in a bad way. It's especially frustrating when that whole segment from the start of the previous chorus to the end of the song is practically perfect delivery-wise aside from this. But enough of the critics because I don't want to seem as if I hate the song. Because I most definitely do not. As I said, while most of the verses are affected by this, my many listens of this track (I think I'm at around 30 listens at the time of writing this part of the review (yeah I'm taking my time writing this given the things I'm saying about it)) have made the issue more bearable in them and the chorus' are barely affected by the issue. Speaking of them, I must fully commend the chorus because it's really well written. Quite simple, but definitely stand out. It's catchy and from what I've read of both characters it fits them too (IE: on Moka's side it especially fits because her "inner demon" is actually pretty much the original personality she had but said personality still cares highly for her outer one) but beyond everything it actually sounds really freaking good. The fact that the background vocals behind the chorus are meant to represent both characters' inner selves which is why they're "the ones to stay" is absolutely great as an addition. It shows how both characters know about what their soul hides and fully acknowledge it while their inner selves are an ever-present thing to them that they must live with (either for the better or for the worse). And hell, while the chorus is definitely the highlight parts of the song, the verses still shine at times. When they actually follow suit with the instrumental and accompany it instead of clashing with it (IE: 0:56-1:18/3:00-3:22) is where both sides of the track are fully allowed to shine. In a way I guess you could argue that it's meant to represent how the characters, when united with their inner selves, are at their best because the parts where the instrumental and the vocals shine the most are when they're in unity but eh. Regardless, those parts are where it truly feels like a wonderful song that lets the epic instrumental combined with the amazingly delivered lyrics. Just a shame that not all of the verses get inline with that. But still, the general product is in the positives by a long margin so I'm not complaining too much as I'm sure it'll end up like Nobody's Perfect where I started frankly not liking the track at all but the more I listened to it, the more I enjoyed it (hell, it's already the case to an extent even if my issues with it are still there). Overall this track is one that I was quite excited to listen to when I first saw it (and in all honesty reading the biography of those characters almost makes me want to start watching both anime (altho the synopsis for Rosario + Vampire is quite off-putting due to its nature as a harem anime I'll admit)) and while it definitely has one sizable issue, it has a number of qualities that make up for it and then some more. It isn't perfect but the combination of fitting lyrics with a really good dynamic, an amazing instrumental with an even better vocal performance in general end up delivering highs that reach much higher than how low the lows scrape down at. Amazing job as always to both artists with this.

As someone who doesn’t really know both characters, this does feel like it’s not for me with its slow beat and traditional lyrics. But it does win me over slightly because I like LadyIgiko and I did listen to it again on 2x speed, which actually made it a bit better so that’s what I would recommend, it’s kinda funny listening to it that way tbh
