I got my bachelors in anthropology and Chinese in 2020 and have been strongly considering grad school for mental health counseling. I haven't done any work in the mental health field yet but applying for jobs at settlement houses and other nonprofit organizations to try to get my foot in the door. Thanks for this video, it was super helpful!

Hi ! Just found your channel and love your content. I’m about to go into a graduate program for either an LMfT and LPCC. I’m leaning towards LPCC but not sure yet. I’m nervous about my practicum placement and life balance for grad school, but you give me so much hope and inspiration. Thank you! I’m thinking of starting a vlog too about grad school experience-did you have to notify your school or work sites about filming for a RU-vid channel? Of course with confidentiality in mind. :) thank you for sharing your experience.

this is so helpful, thank you. I just started my practicum and saw my first client yesterday. feeling a lot of inadequacy and unsure of myself! it's great being able to hear about other people's experiences.

So glad you’re here Brittany! I felt petrified when I saw my first client during practicum and I remember having to give myself so many pep talks so when I went in I legit felt like I put a counselor hat on and relaxed internally as the session progressed. Practice and prep helps us gradually find our rhythm. Rooting for you!

Found your channel and I’m not sure if you’re from the valley but I saw in one of your vids that you mentioned you went to UTRGV. @@Keep_On_Growing Yw! I would say my internship experience has been great but studying for my comprehensive exam plus 4 other courses have been ALOT..but I'm managing. Another adjustment is note-taking, would you please make a video about effective note-taking?

I’m currently a senior in my bachelors for psychology but long term would love to own my own private practice. That is so exciting to hear your plans of pursuing a masters degree with the goal of private practice! Knowing what schools or accreditation to look for can be so confusing. I go to a CACREP accredited program which can expedite some of the process so I can get into private practice sooner. Check out my channel if you’re interested :)

Hey! I'm currently in grad school for Mental Health Counseling. How did you take notes during your program? Were you a hand note person or were you a digital note person when it came to retaining and remembering content. How did you do it?

Hi! I became a digital note person after my first semester just because it was easier to save everything and just type in notes onto the PowerPoint slides or outlines. For the most part I tried to just listen in class and then study and review on my own because sometimes it’s just a lot of information to take in whether you write it or type it. Everyone learns different though so whatever way is best for you definitely go with that. I had friends who printed everything out and hand wrote and it worked great for them.

What was your first job in the field?

My first job was working in a community mental health center as a facilitator with adolescents and families experiencing high crisis situations and symptoms. I was in charge of overseeing and working with the casemanagers that visited the families, and facilitating family meetings as well as meeting one on one with adolescents. I loved what I did, the environment and how things were run at that center were not for me though and I continued with grad school after that.

Hi! It’s so interesting that you ask because we don’t really use the term foreigner here in South Texas because it is so common to have LPC’s, LPC-Associates, or therapists in general who are from other countries and immigrated to the U.S. or who are 1st or 2nd generation of someone who immigrated. Texas is so huge though so every city has its own thing.
