I’m working as a recruiter as well and I totally agree with you! Yes, It’s going to be a nightmare working as recruiter if you don’t like people!haha I’ve never worked for a recruiting company either but I prefer in house recruiter too because we know what it’s like to working for a recruiting company. So true it’s more like sales. In my case, I work in Japan and we hire many new graduates so I visit lots of universities.

I have a question. How can you tell when someone is a perfect fit for a position? Is it the way he/she handles his/herself during interviews? The qualifications and credentials? Do personal qualities play so much role (if yes, how can you judge someone's personality when you only met him/her through interviews?)?

This was very informative. I am an master's engineering student but I am starting to think that this really not something I see myself doing for rest of my life. Where as this, helping people get a job causing happiness. Seems like an absolute dreamland of a profession. I also believe that I have the talent for it. But my education might not exactly match with what you said. Also, I'd love to start the college thing again and hope to study psychology. Thanks for the video. i worked in a recruiting agency, and it's definitely very sales driven. the company i worked for is one of the better ones as far as ethic, but some are super numbers focused, mostly at the expense of the candidate and client. you definitely aren't in HR and are a salesperson. i would recommend being very money motivated if you're interested in an agency.

I obtained volunteer experience in HR while also working sales jobs and I got a talent acquisition certificate from AIRS by ADP (They give a lot of different recruiting certifications). Sales is transferable experience and if you can also obtain a volunteer/internship to get some HR experience, and get a talent acquisition certificate, these together should help you to obtain an entry level recruiting coordinator role internally, than you just work your way up to the Recruiter role from there.

I have recently joined a recruitment agency. I am working on Tech jobs in the US with multiple clients mostly working on Google jobs. I decided to be a recruiter because I was a research analyst in the past. I used to hunt people on Linkedin and connect them for surveys. While I was doing research on their carriers and profiles I always dream to become successful like them. Then I realized that I cannot be master of every field instead of that I can place some awesome people in topmost companies. And now recruitment has become my dream job I really loved to watch people whom I place getting success in their carriers.

i sent in a email to a job i was interested in only to have them deny me because a recruiter scraped my resume off of indeed and submitted it first. my response to said company is below. best of luck to you, i am an american first and will not work with a vessel of foreign commerce, i was contacted from the Philippians, this is an attempt at coercion, and is a non enforceable contract via 25 cfr 11.406, and it is my actions that are being restricted. i found the name of your company on multiple job boards. i never authorized them they contacted me, the reason i called you is because of the mass amount of foreign recruiters that contact me and times are getting disparate for me. I was hoping for a local employer to support another american and not go through the recruiter shuffle, it would keep more money in your pocket, more money in our country which is being bled dry, and you would help to make america great by employing us Americans which work hard to present ourselves, sadly it appears that only corporations and money matter not us Americans, the skills we have spent our lives attaining, or the posterity of our nation. a headhunter cannot ever understand what i bring to the table, they are simply passing resumes running keyword searches with 0 understanding of scope or talent.

I've recently spoken with an Australian friend who had to go through UK agencies to get work, and sadly he said his experience with numerous agencies was not good. His question 'is it a women's club', because about 90% of the people he met in agencies were young women?' was a good question because my experience was very similar. In addition, this young woman says that she does a telephone interview and 'if she likes the candidate she'll put them forward to the employer' is so arrogant (yet she seems to have absolutely no idea of this) and is the reason many employees and employers don't like agencies, and consider them to be parasites, living off the backs of other people. I personally have gotten totally fed up of listening to the lies and bullshit coming out of their immaculately made up mouths.

I have worked with many recruitment companies and good agencies are less sales heavy and it is more about finding the right fit for the right company. I also get calls telling me they have found the right role for me. This used to frustrate me but I have moved around a lot lately so I am more respectful these days. I don't do telephone interviews because I do not have to. If they have my CV I will come in but if they don't want me to that is fine too I will look elsewhere. Good agencies know their bank of people so when a role comes up they have an idea of who they want to fill that vacancy but obviously that is not always possible if the person is happy where they are. Also I used to travel all over the place to meet recruiters but now I make them come to me. I am happy as it is close and my local is happy for the custom :) Wait until you are more in demand before going down this route but I suppose I am less loyal these days so recruiters know I am easier to persuade having recently started another new job.

I am from Spain. I do not have any problems with my English tbh. I don't like bragging, but it has been 18 years since I first started with the language, so, in my case, everything is fine in relation to that :). As my mom usually says 'You will never do anything if you do not lose your shyness,' and she's definitely right. Trust me, I am always afraid of asking for things, but that won't take me anywhere. I am almost done with my bachelor's thesis, so I hope to be in London in November :). Idk what the future will bring to me, but I am willing to know ;).

That video helped so much! I would have a question for you, what would you recomment to someone that is looking for an (paid) internship in the UK in general? I have been searching for hours for internship that are longer than 3 months and that go into the HR direction. Are there any websites I could use to find something?

So true Sandy! It's not as easy as people think. I have done both agency and in-house recruiting. Both have pros and cons. Great job on this video :).

Hey Sandy, hope you're well! I'm glad you've brought up this topic, there's so much I have to talk about, hence I hope we can have a bit of a discussion and learn from one another! Firstly. What does the company you work for do and what trades/professions are you usually involved with hiring? Secondly. As you know, I'm a regular watcher of your videos and I often like them and comment on them and I think you do a great job on your channel! Hence please don't take the opinions I'm going to express personally, I'm not trying to be offensive by any means. I'm just expressing my experiences and I'm hoping we could discuss and learn from one another! So, I’m a mechanical engineer and most of my colleagues and friends from uni are engineers as well (from Australia) and most of us hold a lot of resentment towards recruiters…. We feel as though recruiters (in Australia anyway) don’t have the slightest clue about the position they’re trying to fill, applicants are just numbers to them, they only skim over applications and don’t take the respectful time to asses applications properly and they select application based on whether the application has particular words in it, not the actual content of the application. I say this because there have been so many times where someone I knew got a particular position in a company who only made it through uni because they copied other people’s assignments. And for the same position, some of the guys who got rejected were some of the best engineers in my cohort… As you can imagine, we apply for very specialized and specific positions within companies. We only know that we’re qualified to work these positions because of the 4 years of engineering studies we’ve completed. So I just don’t understand how someone with a degree in HR or recruitment is able to hire the right person for the job if they themselves don’t understand what the job entails. For example, when I write a CV or a motivation letter, there’s particular terminology that I’d use that someone in HR or recruitment just wouldn’t understand unless he or she also has a degree in mechanical engineering. Lastly, this is something that really annoys and disappoints me, the lack of respect many recruiters have for applicants. What I mean by this is, when an application of mine is not successful, I get an automated rejection email, this is fine. But when I email the recruiter back asking about why I was rejected and how I can improve on future applications, I expect at the very least reasoning for my rejection. Instead, I either don’t get a response or I’m usually met with an email along the lines of “Unfortunately your application didn’t fit the position”, yes I know that, but why….? This happens so often….. We put in so much time and energy into applications, if you (not you in particular Sandy, but a general recruiter) reject someone, at least have the decency and respect to provide some advice or reasoning so the candidate can improve and learn….. Sorry for the super long comment, but it’s a topic that affects me and many of my friends and colleagues and unfortunately it’s been a pretty rough ride for us. Once again, please don’t take it personally. I’m not trying to be harsh or offensive, I’m just shedding some light on my experiences. Hopefully we can make a constructive convo out of this! Ahh, also, one thing I just don't understand here in Germnay. Why do recruiters expect a photo on your CV???? :/ It's just so wrong, in my opinion. You should be selected on merit, not on how you look..... Have a great day! :)

+Akshay Malde 3 easy answers for you ;) 1 - I hire for marketing, finance, product, hr, sales, insights and strategy :) 2 - I know how you feel but this must be agency recruiters ;) in-house you would never get this treatment - at least not from people I have met 3 - No idea about Germany :/ so sorry but I never worked there

Hey Sandy, I have an interview with the hiring manager this Thursday - if all goes well, it will be my first job ever. I am a Psychology major with a background on industrial psych and human resources. They're looking for someone with experience, and I was an intern for some time at another company. I really want this job, it's so close to home, and the company looks very pleasing. Do you have any advice for my interview? It's going to be a panel interview with situational type of questions. Thank you! Loved the video.
