My journey so far? I've been on some waitlist for I shit you not, at-least 3 years. You all deserve a medal for figuring out how to use the ancient training website!
Real world and VATSIM controller here. In ATC, you get out whatever you put in. Starting with these small steps can help you go a long way. Keep up the great work!
This is so inspiring to watch. I literally got Beyond ATC to train how to speak to ATC before I go ahead and jump into VATSIM. Wishing you the best on your journey!
Nice man! My situation is very similar to yours, from Roblox simulators to XPlane and MSFS! I'm also 16, started my VATSIM ATC training a year ago and am now S2 in the CZUL FIR. I wish you the best of luck, and make sure to enjoy the experience (but don't forget school haha)!
Keep working for your dreams man ! I always wanted to be a pilot but the cost of studying prevented me from realizing my dream and today it is my biggest regret. Don't let anything stop you from doing what you dream of.
I am also planning to get my pilot certification later on this year/early 2025. I have been flying on the VATSIM network for the same reasons you have, to gain more experience and learn. I just recently joined a FIR inside of VATCAN to learn about ATC and communication to better improve my skills. I am just about to get my ground certification and I gotta say its great to see other people my age who are interested in these sort of things, props to you man! Goodluck, hope to see you controlling soon. 💪
Good vid mate. Happy that you are interested in becoming an ATC. I am a Vatsim ATC as well at ROvACC, I have an S2 rating, just finishing the training for S3, if evrything is good I`ll be an S3 controller by the end of this month. I want to be an ATC IRL as well, so this Vatsim controlling is really helping me. It took kind of a long time but belive me, it`s worth it. I congratulate you for becoming an S1 ATC and good luck with your S2 training(at first it will seem like it`s hard, but it isn`t).
Excited to see where you go with this. I started VATSIM ATC training a few years ago but decided to stop as I got to busy (IR and Commercial pilot training). Now i just fly on vatsim as a pilot but I may apply for ATC training again in the future. Good luck!
Keep it up brother! I'm in a similar boat, current S1 at NY ARTCC, I am also 16 and considering becoming a pilot one day. You're gonna do great things man. Hard work pays off. Its a decent amount of work becoming Vatsim ATC but well worth it. Make sure you actually understand the stuff before moving on because everything piles up on its self and definitely enjoy it man its a blast
Great video!!! I'm also a controller in ZME and now working on my S2 Rating! very glad we have a new member join in, I have to say, those mentors and Instructors in Memphis are awesome! maybe we'll meet very soon in the scopes!
Wow, this is, wow. As a S1 working on my S2 in Vatsim and also a student pilot this is a lot more than I did. I suggest you finish the academy ASAP as that is what holds you back. Once you finish the academy the learning doesn't stop though because you have to learn the specifics for your ARTCC (Air Route Traffic Control Center). The games help but wont help as much as the academy. Remember that you won't instantly be doing radar scopes. Keep your hopes up you are definitely going to be ready at this pace once you finish the academy.
I was certified with Chicago yesterday. We have 0 people in the wait line for S1. The work is very hard and challenging but if you put your mind to it it is a lot of fun. And my main tip is observe, observe, observe.
New sub, this makes me want to pursue a similar path. I always enjoyed watching Vatsim clips on social media and viewed myself as possibly doing the same. However, the stress and lack of experience on my end, does make it pretty daunting. I wish you good luck.
As a VATSIM controller, welcome aboard! Make sure to talk with your ATM / DATM about sending or sharing any internal policies or documents! Working on my S3 at the moment, It takes time but its fun as heck!
flew vatsim and got my s2, trust me. The difference it makes in comms and just general awareness and how things are moving makes it so much easier to learn. Flying airliners on vatsim has also made instrument insanely easy compared to others.
i wish all my students on vatsim were like you. dedicated and WILLING TO STUDY OUTSIDE OF TRAINING SESSIONS. you're going to do fine learning the ATC procedures if you keep doing what you're doing now.
Cool idea. Once you start controlling larger class Charlies and some Bravos you'll begin to engage in the whole puzzle-solving aspect of ATC; dealing with ever-increasing traffic in your ARTCC's largest airport is a unique experience lol. Good luck on your journey.
Hello from VZDC, I did flight simming on vatsim for like 2 years before I decided to become atc. Let me tell you its really fun! Lot of work sometime, but fun. I am a current s1.
as a VATSIM controller and pilot irl, seeing both sides (atc and pilot) has reeeaaallly helped in flying irl. The introduction from VATUSA is super easy and depending on your ARTCC it is really easy to get your S1. When it gets to S2 it is a lot harder, lots of people (including me) say that it the hardest rating to get. Overall it isn't super hard to get your S1. And once you do your S1 exam you are still an observer (OBS), you get training inside ZME to get your S1. S2 is gonna take you awhile because you have to get your minor and major S1 certs...hate to break it to ya. Just remember not to leak the exams or the tests and you will be good :) Keep it up!
I forgot to talk about this actually so I guess I will say it here! I realized that I have to do some farther training on the network to finish up my S1 before making a separate vid for my S2, so I think I am going to make a smaller vid (prob around 5 minutes) with me finishing that! And from what I have heard, the S2 is def the hardest part but, hey! No shame in needing more help if I struggle! Appreciate the support and thanks for watching man!
You lead a very similar story to me, I am the same age kind of (15) and that’s why I subbed. I want to see your story evolve part too part. However, I would advise getting a light in your bedroom though. But a very nice video.
yo man great video, just a tip - I think your camera lighting is too dark and i can barely see you when you speak, so consider turning the lights on or something. Keep going 💪
vatsim atc here, when trying to practice, especially with VATUSA facilities, I personally would recommend viceATC. Its an opensource ATC sim based on vSTARS. I've used it a lot and have made a few scenarios for it myself, and I enjoy it. The one thing I would like to say, is make sure you don't have bad habits when controlling in sims. If you develop bad habits while using a sim, when you get to training, they will stick. I've had that happen to my self. Love the video though, can't wait to see you develop!
You should try playing unmatched air traffic control to help. It doesn’t use actual people but you control the ground. It may not be the best but it makes me a better atc.
Its funny you say that, because I actually used unmatched before even starting this project! I am about half way through the planes and at the 4th airport
im a senior in HS going into aviation maintenance, and i may get my PPL with my buddy thats like 19-20 and just got his CFI certification, i love flying in MSFS and i was thinking about joining vatsim and flying the 737 MAX. after seeing this, i dont think it will be that hard, it kind of looks like what i had to do to get my boaters license.
Hello! I have a few questions about VATSIM. I've already made an account, but i never used it because i was/still am kinda scared 😅 but do yall do training sessions for dummy pilots at a smaller airport to check if our equipment is set up right and to maybe get rid of that stage fright? Thanks Have a great day!
Hey man! So vatsim does offer opportunities to get your virtual “licenses” it is something I have never tried and probably won’t try, (because technically it is not necessarily needed to fly any of the planes), but having racked up a good amount of vatsim hours, i would say the best thing you can do is fly CTAF airspace before controlled and then slowly ease your way into airspace controlled by just a ground, and continuing all the way up until you feel comfortable
Sorry I am a little late to this! But here you go! Go to VAT USA and sign up using your vatsim account! Complete the academy, sign up for an ARTCC and go from there! And in case you want to watch my new vid for this series is up!
That is actually something I have been looking at, what lights should I get? I need something that won’t create glare on the camera, like the sign (which I am moving soon)
My boy, AMAZING VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully this sub helps. (And yes I'm 13 and I have a roblox airline). By the way roblox is pretty real now. There is a vatsim for roblox which I am a part of.
If you want to fly and don't have rich parents; don't waste time on flight simulators. Airline sponsored flight school requires physics, maths and English as you probably know. flying on vatsim isn't going to get you onto one of these courses; hard work studying will.
Im a 4.0 student with all honors and ap classes and several extracurricular activities. Ive got the academic side handled. I am also currently ALREADY working on a ppl and actively take flight lessons. And you are wrong, Flights sims ARE helpful, especially to those who do not have time to fly but could easily hop on a sim for 15 minutes to practice. No disrespect intended with my view, at the end of the day both of us will most likely end up flying airlines anyway, just taking different paths to get there!
@@ctrent03 Hey I worded my comment wrong. I never said they're not helpful but what I wrote might give that impression. No disrespect either man, I'm in England and flying over here is nowhere near as easy or even pleasurable as flying in places like Florida. The airspace in England is so condensed. All the best to you man
