This week's video is all about my journey to CRNA school. In this video, I cover topics like education, experience, certifications, GRE, and schools of choice. This video is also a little unique for me, as I am a practicing NP going to anesthesia school! Not a typical applicant!

Just finished my first semester of CRNA school, and while it was a beast of a semester, I loved knowing I was finally doing what I wanted to do for so long.

I wouldn't consider anyone who gets a 3.47 GPA dumb. CRNA schools probably use GPA to sift out candidates so they aren't drowned in a sea of applications; however, I wouldn't call 3.47 bad.

Congrats on CRNA school! Glad you're still uploading! I'm a little over halfway done with nursing school to get my RN. I'm looking forward to working as a bedside nurse for several years and eventually going back to school to become a NP. Your content is very informative and down to earth and is great for anyone in the field of nursing. Keep up the great work and good luck! 👍

Great to see a video again, David. Please keep making videos throughout CRNA school - I'd love to see. I am also a life-long learner and love hearing what you're up to. Kent (AAS Computer Animation, BS Human Anatomy and Physiology, DC Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine, Master of Liberal Studies, PhD in Humanities, specializations in Jewish History and Philosophy, Art and Literature Critical Theory, and mid-20th Century Cultural History - not in that order - I started in health care and went back to art and literature . I'm currently a Humanities Professor teaching at a college in Iowa, after living in Dallas for 30 years!

It is important to state something... 1. The #1 reason why individuals to not complete CRNA training is because of the demanding training tempo, the family becomes disillusioned and no longer supports the student. The demands of the 2.5-3 yr training period are extremely intense and the study + out-rotation schedule will take 99% of the family time. So the family MUST be on board for the long haul. Good luck my man!

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I’m a nursing student in my 2nd year of my BSN program. I hope to get into the ICU so that I can start building my experience for CRNA. Please share more of journey to encourage us.

Hi there David, Soon I'll be an Acute Care NP who's never worked in ICU as a bedside RN either. You've given me some perspective and some active considerations as to my next job just in case I want to do the same as you. I always thought the bedside RN experience was a super hard rule. Hemodynamic monitoring as a NP, got it! Kevin

@@DavidWarrenNP you’re very welcome! Please continue with the content. I’m about to retire from the fire dept and if all works out, I’ll have all I need to apply in 4 years. However, I hope being 55 I won’t be discriminated against. Most older SRNAs are in their 30s. I’ll give it 100% and see. Thank again for the great contents!

I’m applying to accelerated nursing programs next spring hopefully UCONN and I have ambitions for Nurse anesthesia down the road, what are your plans for CRNA to DNAP ? As for when I can look into the graduate programs there will only be doctorate programs, and I believe after 2021 graduates must obtain doctorate by 2025 and CRNA’s won’t be grandfathered over after 2021 if I researched correctly .

Impressive career path!! Hey I just wonder how much tuition total in NP and CRNA would be. I guess it’s a lot. Even though, is it worth it? I am thinking psychiatric np though..just impressed
@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP 2 года назад
Tuition is a lot. It ranges from 80k-200k. My program is around 100k for a DNP degree. The payoff is more than worth the effort though.

I know in the past you have mentioned having second thoughts about being an NP for reasons like market saturation. What are your thoughts about someone becoming an NP for the purpose of providing primary care in a rural setting?
@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP 2 года назад
If you want to live in rural America- the market is wide open for you. You can find a job in many places, rural Alaska included. For me- I love visiting and hanging out for a while, but I do not want to live in the sticks.

Hey David, hope you are having a great school life balance and hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving . we miss you here and all the resources and videos you provide that I just went back to watching your old videos since you haven’t uploaded in a while. May I ask why you didn’t go to CRNA school initially instead of going to NP route. I’m curious to know your rationale because it’s seems like a lot of waste looking from the outside.

Why CRNA and not Psych NP as you mentioned in one of your previous videos ?
@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP 2 года назад
Good question- several reasons actually. There are basically minimal to no admission restrictions for NP programs. This is what is contributing to the over saturation problem. Second, I truly don't have a passion for psychiatric care. I think if you are going to make something into a profession, you need to be passionate about it. For CRNA- I am super passionate about critical care, and CRNA is an excellent option to make that happen in different settings.

Psych NP or CRNA school? 🤩

Maybe? Stupid question but Does it have to be a current ICU experience? Or can it be pass ICU experience ha ha.

No stupid questions! Most schools like ICU experience within the last 2-3 years.

Hey Jayme! I am 31. I think it all comes down to whether or not you think it's worth it. 3 years will pass you by whether or not you are in CRNA school. Keep that in mind. Will you, in 3 years, regret not doing it 3 years ago? Many people have regrets about what they never did. Fewer people have regrets about what they did.

3.47 gpa is not bad? Some people have gotten into a CRNA program with a upper 2s or low 3s. Overall, it usually the totality of what the student brings. At least this is what I’ve seen.
@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP Год назад
Thank you for watching! You are somewhat correct- you can get in with lower GPAs. It is not super common, but it can happen, depending on your whole profile as a student.

Probably a good thing you are in TX. Things are a mess here in CA as the jab mafia is all in on mandates. Plenty of job openings here soon.
