Our last stop in Tennessee is the Smoky Mountain area. This area is home to the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. We take the Leica M11 along with the 50mm Noctilux 1.2 remake (11686) and 21mm Super Elmar (11145). I go over the differences between these two lenses and what to expect using them in the REAL world.
Going to Brushy Mountain State Pen makes an interesting photographic subject. This prison has been the home for some of Tennessee’s most notorious criminals! The most notable is James Earl Ray, the convicted assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The prison was in operation from 1896 and closed in 2009. After several years sitting empty, a group stepped in and made it a tourist attraction, brewery, restaurant, and concert venue. Yes, the concert venue is on the prison yard itself!!
After our visit to the jail we hit the streets of Eastern Tennessee and capture some of the iconic Americana we find along the road. For this part of the video we shot on a Leica M11 and 35mm Steel Rim Summilux remake (11301) and 90mm Thambar-M.
Please like and subscribe. These videos are hard work and time consuming to make, so your support is appreciated!
I am documenting the decay on a black and white medium the fade of iconic American roadside sights, mixed in with the landscape and portrait shots of the people we meet along the way. This project was inspired by a combination of inspiration from the photography greats in street photography, landscape photography, new topographic photography, and portrait photography. This photographic project isn’t limited to a genre, disciple, or discipline, but rather being able to adapt the variability of life as it comes your way.
I photograph with Leica cameras and many Leica and Voightlander lenses. I am a big fan of vintage lenses and the lens designer Walter Mandler. My everyday carry is the Leica 35mm Summilux Steel Rim reissue. More on Leica photo equipment in practical use in coming episodes.
Photo gear used in this video: Leica M11, Leica 35mm Steel Rim Summilux, Leica 90mm Thambar, Leica Noctilux 50mm f1.2 (reissue), and 21 SuperElmar.
Video gear used in this video: Panasonic S5IIx, Insta 360 1 inch, GoPro hero 11, DJI Mini 3 pro drone.

Thank you!! I'm trying to find titles that aren't too "clickbaity" but still stimulate interesting and curiosity.
