That would be so awesome!!!! I love it when people do that and make recommendations, the pros and cons, steer you away from certain books! I hope that becomes a monthly thing!! God bless you! Most of the folded corners in the books I read may not, 1, deserve a million dollar piece of real estate in my Bible, but at the age of 69 I have accumulated a wonderful Index card library with alphabetical listing of books I've read and file notes from authors, commentaries, even chart lists from my Rose Publishers books , Bible studies, by topic and by quotes. I purchased a cash box with a handle from Walmart and its almost full.

Thank you for sharing your list of books. I look forward to the list for August! Before my stroke almost 2 years ago, I was a very avid reader. I come from parents who were major readers and my sister is one as well. The only books I read now is my Bible and commentaries. I am struggling through a couple for my Bible college classes. I have bought a couple of books on your suggestion; How To Read The Bible as well as a couple of others. Sharing about your list of books for July, makes me think about reading again. I don’t know that I will ever be the avid reader I was before, but thank you for sharing the books you’ve read with us. I have added to those books to my Amazon shopping cart.

I love your book reviews! I appreciated your take on Louie Giglio’s book. I have not read it but I went to college and still live in Atlanta, going to Northpoint churches for over 25 years. Louie did the young adult ministry known as 7:22 and is/was? best friends with Andy Stanley. I left the Northpoint brand of churches last year over my disgust and frustration with Andy’s low view of scripture, particularly the OT. That’s a painful thing to say because I used to sing his praises and even named my son Andrew 😖 Luckily he goes by a nickname. Take anything Andy Stanley says with a huge grain of salt, and that goes for anyone who’s learned under him. Sad.

trying to remember what all I've read lately - some were Lutheran authors that I was i nterested in. Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up? matthew Richard and Has American Christianity Failed? Bryan Wolfmueller. I'm not Lutheran Missouri Synod and I found both authors pretty blunt but good info to consider IMO. I also read Jessica LaGrone's Out of Chaos which was good and a different 'tone'! 2 others I really liked were Another Gospel? by Alisa Childers and Truth on Fire by Adam Ramsey. earlier this year I read Jen Wilkin- Ten Words to Live By, None Like Him, and part of In His Image - all excellent!

Thank you for your book reviews! I love to get new ideas for books to read. Although, I personally would not sponsor Beth Moore or Rachel Held Evans as both women do not hold a biblical view of the gospel. But, that's my personal opinion. I recently read "Person of Interest" by J. Warner Wallace and "Awake and Alive to Truth" by John Cooper. I loved both of them. Cooper's book is more about today's culture and what truth is. Wallace's book is about Why Jesus came to Earth when He did is relevant. Both are fantastic reads.

Have you read, "The Secret Thoughts if an Unlikely Convert" by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield? She was a radical lesbian professor of women's studies. Her conversion story was mind-blowing. She is now in a conservative Presbyterian church, a home-schooling mother. Make sure you read the updated version with the added chapters at the end. Even the change in writing styles is jarring. (I have been Roman Catholic, Methodist, Charismatic and now go to a Southern Baptist church.)

Okay, I’m do not know your full thoughts on Beth Moore. When you mentioned we need to read her book I was a bit taken back. I have done a couple of her Bible studies and have seen one of her simulcasts. Oh, and I have watched some of her teachings on TBN. Now, people have a love/hate of her. I do not hate her, but I am not a fan of her teaching. I started noticing her and others with some non-Biblical teaching about two years ago when my husband and I were having questions at our “Arminian” church. (Now going to a reformed church) I do not hear a lot of exegesis out of Beth Moore. I could say more except I really want to know your thoughts about her and if you don’t follow her teachings why would you read any of her books and recommend them?

Great reviews, thank you! "But everybody cherry picks"--and I'm like, so that just means that everyone is wrong. People who argue for OT tithing are forgetting that it was more than 10 per cent, that a lot of that was like governmental taxes, which we are paying too! We should always be looking for the whole-Bible view, and challenging ourselves by it. I liked Rachel Held Evans' book "Inspired" until I'd finished it, and read my Bible a lot more, and then going back through to take notes, I find that in it she pits two extremes against each other (like persecution OR affirmation) and doesn't concede a middle ground. That Philip Yancey book sounds very good! My family has been reading John in the evenings, and I was really struck by how often people just came to Jesus desperate because they knew he was good and they were so drawn to him!

I can relate to the church hurt , I will maybe look for this book? Our family has had a lot of this, our family has been at the same church 1st since my Hunk was age 9 he’s now 62, and as a family since 1994, we have seen a lot of changes go on from a small cozy sanctuary to a family life center gym and then a very large new sanctuary that feels nothing like the house of God to me? I have never felt good in this sanctuary like our smaller one. But we went from 3 services to one in building this one? Anyway because of covid its been 2 yrs since the doors were open , they did do a one line service in those days , we have started going back in person lately but our twin daughters wanted to be in the vocal worship group and also teach interp to music but because of some miscommunication their feelings got hurt and they felt picked on for the clothes they wore? They and we are of simple means and not much money etc they do the best they can. Both work in a office and thought what was okay to ware in an office would we good at church ? So now they wont go back? Our oldest daughter and her husband wont go back as well, he was very heavy into the sound and lighting but devoted so much time to that sh felt neglected so now they don’t go anymore. I believe our daughters are all saved, baptized etc we raised them in church and hope raised in Christ, but due to all this their kids are not being brought up in church. They are missing out on so much. We try to be good role models for them when they are around us.our girls are age 36 and 30 and 30 . They said what happened to come as you are.

First, I am a huge fan of the channel. I also wanted to just make a brief point about women in leadership roles in the church. A church of my same belief in my same town started allowing women serve the Lord’s Supper. Now, no men ever do it. Then they started letting them lead prayer in the service. Now, men almost never do it. It’s a good sized congregation, but the men seem to be more than willing to sit back and let the women do what God designed them, the men, to do - lead. Recently, they allowed a woman to preach the sermon on a Sunday morning, something they said they would never do. So, it does happen in small steps. The marriage and the church have a lot in common. In the home, men are to lead. But if a woman tries to be the leader, too many men will just sit back and let her take over running the entire household without the husband. God clearly calls men to be the spiritual leader in the home. Why do we think His church would be any different? I don’t see anything in the Word that says women should be preachers, elders or deacons (the God-ordained leaderships roles in the church). We can all be preachers/teachers outside of the church and we should. There are TONS of roles and ministries for women IN the church. I think we need to ask ourselves why we feel like that’s not enough for us. Why are we not satisfied to be in the roles God created for us, whether at home or in the church?

What's really helpful to me, before reading certain books by preachers/theologians/apologists that I've never read, is to do deep dives into their ministries first. What I learned about Beth Moore AFTER researching her teaching was that it's not "sound" theology. If a person follows her teachings faithfully, they COULD stumble into some pretty erroneous, choppy beliefs that have been brought to light by many concerned Christians calling out false teachers. Romans 16:17-18 states, "I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery, they deceive the minds of naive people." For example, she's very active on social media with tons of followers. When she "likes" tweets, RU-vid videos, and Facebook posts, people take note! Her comments and these "likes" end up being confusing (about social issues, etc.) leading believers to not know how to respond Biblically - see her "like" on Twitter regarding Black Lives Matter. I'd be VERY cautious reading any of her material and not give grace to erroneous teachings that can lead people astray (if that were possible). It's really like a minefield trying to navigate what God has intended as sound teaching. There's way too much info out there that can be easily accessed for us to steer clear of Beth Moore.

People run away from Beth Moore because they hear error in her teachings, not to mention she usurps authority..

When you turn over the pages of a book you 'dog-ear' them.😊

Actually I think Adam ate the fruit because he thought she was going to die Immediately and didn't want to be alone again because he loved her so much so that's my Human brain thinking Just something to ponder maybe Totally of mine Thinking not based on any kind of Fact I am a hopeless romantic though

I kinda have the feeling he believed the lie too and didn't want her knowing all like God and him being the idiot LOL! but Paul says Eve was deceived, not Adam so there's that..

More in “Unseen Realm” … overarching theme of the book (which was also Dr. Heifer’s dissertation) is reading the Bible as it’s written, rather than through the lens of tradition, culture and personal bias … interesting stuff Also … I notice that 95% of comments are from women, which leads me to believe that your primary audience is female. I am a guy, 63 years old and theologically trained as a pastor, and find your content solid, engaging and interesting. So there.

I read Louie Giglio's book in April and I couldn't stand reading it. I thought the same, he went too far. The video wasn't any better. There is so much in Psalm 23 and the emphasis he placed on that one verse and how he moves through scripture was too far away from God's Word.

I've been watching your vids on and off now for several weeks now, I really like alot of what you're saying and doing, but, Beth Moore??? Why would you endorse her?? Maybe you can handle and identify the error in her teachings, but not everyone is as knowledgeable as you are ( I can tell by some of the comments on here ) however mere knowledge isn't wisdom.. Thank you to those who stood up against this endorsement of this woman...
