Zarina Ahmad is the principal at Piedmont Avenue Elementary School, located in North Oakland. As a mother and educator, She shares six children with her husband Mubarak Ahmad.
Education was clearly an important factor in Mrs. Ahmad's home. The family prides themselves on having instilled good values in each of their children.
She is an African American, who likens herself to be a direct descendant of Africa. She learned that Traditional African names often have unique stories behind them. Whichever ethnic group you look at, these local names reveal a wealth of information about the bearer. From the day or time a baby is born to the circumstances surrounding the birth, several factors influence the names parents choose for their children. Hence, all her 6 children bear Nigerian (Yoruba) names. Oblivious to where her lineage is from on the continent, her subsequent ANCESTRY DNA RESULTS coincidently traced to NIGERIA.. In awe, she said ‘It all makes sense now!! My ancestor spirits have been communicating, guiding, protecting, and ordaining my footsteps all along..
She said, "It is our job, as teachers and parents, to check our own mental pictures of Africa. We should be ahead of the time and be aware of our role in perpetuating the stereotypes in the minds of our children. We should find ways to present African studies in a manner that breaks this cycle of perpetuating misinformation and distorted images of the continent..
This, she has done with her kids and has educated them about the African HISTORY, STORIES, HEROES, REPATRIATION etc.. She said “When my kids came home from school, they know that you have a snack, and then you start studying,” she said. “I’m a backer of kids and education and am a strong believer that education is a way to open doors and make things better for all people.”
ENJOY!! genealogy african ancestry dna results ancestry dna results native american

It’s essential that we Africans should reclaim our names because not only it has a meaning but identifies us too. Yes we must teach our children should be proud having links with Africa. My sister what a beautiful inspirer you are and I totally agree with you that we teach our children about Nat Turner, Martin Delaney, Edward Wilmot Blyden, Carter G Woodson, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Walter Rodney, Thomas Sankara, Steve Biko, Robert Mugabe, Henry McNeil Turner etc

The operation of our consciousness is based on the knowledge of identity that is imprinted in us as young people. The "African Self" should not be defined by slavery, colonialism or neo-colonialism. The African Self should and must be defined by the rich history of knowledge, bravery, prestige and heritage from Ghana, Mali, Songhai, Zulu, Ethiopia, to the Great Zimbabwe and many others that am still learning of. We need to reshaped the thinking of our children to embrace their true self. This was a great conversation! Thank you!

@@abbassaquee286 that’s not the point I am making. I am not bothered by individuals telling their history but don’t mention Africa when only talking about Ghana or Nigeria because when you say africa it’s a bit like you speaking for every other Africans. For a example the woman made this video I believe is from Ghana, so why from all other African countries she could mentioned but decided to mention Nigeria? I mean Ghana has a close link historically with Ivory Coast but she skips pass Ivory Coast and decides to mention a country that is two or three countries further away from Ghana. Why?. So if like you said we Africans have soo much in common then why a lot of Ghanaians refuse to mention other African countries but Nigerians and themselves. Talking about history? Is she aware of the Yoruba as the children of Canaanites of the Bible? Jerusalem before the Exodus was known as Jebu ( the Jebusites). If Google the 1747 map of Western Africa known as the kingdom of Judah, she should notice the kingdom of Jebu ( Jebusites). The Akans of Ghana and other Western Africans from Israel. The Torah was written in the Akan language but Romans or Europeans has destroyed their mindset with the name Jesus. As GOD said, I am GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob children, but not GOD of the Romans and Europeans, they are not of the family of Jacob. Have no reason to publish the Gospel if not for their interests. The same Europeans who accused the Jews of selling their GOD sent Jesus accused Africans of selling their children. Sadly, the children of Jacob today, cannot see beyond the Europeans and have lost their minds if I may say so. A word to a wise???
