@@RichardHunke it is pretty easy actually, but the hard part about it is, it's a little bit time consuming trying to do every single girl. unless you keep track of multiple saves, that's what I ended up doing, but it took me some time doing it all because you have to remember which save goes to which girl, same for other saves.
I'm just about done with it after picking it up on the winter sale. Fair review, pretty on point. That said I enjoyed it immensely, but probably wait for it to go on sale I'd say.
I’m a sucker for the shining series since shining force 1! just picked this up, def looking forward to playing it. The graphics look nice, love how clean the characters look. Thanks for the coverage brotha 👍🏽✌🏽 speaking of which, Shining force 3 needs a remake, that game got no love when it came out plus only 1 episode of the 3 made it stateside. Make it happen sega!
This game was pretty good for sure and I was happy to see a gaiden shining title get released over here as like noted bu the reviewer it has been awhile since Sega released a shining game over here. Very sad you only played Shining Soul on GBA as there are many better gaiden shining games such as the 2 Shining games on PS2 for example which are also Action RPGs. It's sad what Sega turned Shining Force into. I'm still waiting for a true Shining Force 4 as Shining Force 3 was amazing even though we missed parts 2 and 3. Camelot and Sega need to patch up the bad blood and make a Shining Force 3 successor.
Just saw this game on a store and got curious, it does have some interesting aspects shown in your review. Now I’m battling through which edition should i acquire. Can u people let me know which could be the best platform to play this in? PS4 or switch. I do not own a ps4 pro so maybe portability might be a factor to consider.
There is virtually no difference between any of the systems. The switch however will have 1080p docked but will revert to 720 not docked. So really it's up to you.
There is a lot of dialogue, but if you read through it fast (and don't wait for the VO to finish) it shouldn't be too bad. There are 8 chapters but in terms of story progression outside of getting through text, it's not that long. For instance, when I did my 2nd playthrough for Refrain, I skipped all the cutscenes and pretty much went through the game in 2-3 days. If you're going through and waiting for all the VO to finish playing, it might just add another 2 or 3 days to your playthrough.
I mean it definitely changed my mind about buying it right now. I like the waifus thing and I’m fine with the combat but I’m a big story guy. I’ll probably just wait for it to go on sale for cheap. I like JRPGs with solid story telling
I enjoyed the HELL out of this game. :D Only thing is, it didn't feel as big as some of the other rpg's I've played. Maybe I've been spoiled by the Tales of series, but I expect a bigger world and a bigger journey if I'm going to be playing a game where a party has to go out and save the world. I enjoy simplistic combat, so this game's action rpg elements were right up my alley. Also, Sonia is best girl.
I preordered this a while back, tried the demo, and was seriously put off by the mouse of the protagonist. I want give this a shot, mainly because of the girls including the Imperial one in Refrain mode, but if main character is still a mouse for half the game, no way.
Yeah, he lacks confidence for half the game but will also start to show signs of growth as the story progresses. He doesn't fully man up until late chapter 4.
The mysterious person was Yuma's mother and the item you speak of is the collar he is given as it is sort implied that she tried to save the dragon while she was pregnant and in return the dragon inhabits the unborn Yuma. I hope that clears a bit up for you Jrpg Fanatic. Awesome review, you have gained a subscriber :)
Like my dating sim and waifus and the steel case is cool, but not enough money to go around. Octopath is something I'm looking forward to. Probably get shining if on sale. Hopefully launch edition will be available.
Octopath is definitely a more appealing pick. I'm looking forward to playing it on Friday after I get off of work. I think it'll be hard to find a launch edition in the future but not impossible. Good luck though!

@@10mingaming8 You are welcome, the gameplay on YS8 is more dynamic, the only downside is that the game is kind of hard to find, expect at least $50 for the PS4 and Switch, the Vita version can go for $35, however the price is worth it for the quality of the game when you get used of the combat the battles go fast and smooth
Why every game play video of Shining resonance refrain have a DLC Costume to change from original, but i didn't see DLC costume add-on appear on ps store including US and Asia Zone. How could i get DLC costume ??? so confuse !?
Xbox one X or Switch? I have both consoles. It's cheaper on Xbox. Performance vs Portability. Does the performance warrant sacrificing the portability? Like how much better would it look. It's Xbox One X enhanced so prob tuns at native 4k.
That seems more like a personal question that only you would know. I haven't played it on either of those consoles and I don't care about portability. I assume the switch will have more slow downs during combat (undocked) because I had some on the pro. I also doubt the game looks much better in 4k than non-4k. It's a PS3 era game.
LordKaiser003 yup. I didn't pay attention and did not notice this until I was forced to use 2 characters I never have in my party during a story mission. Had to spend some extra time to raise their levels :(
Games did that a lot back in the day so I don't mind it lol. It's not too bad outside of that one situation. Since I wanted to see all the character endings, I had to use all the characters eventually anyway so no time lost.
From my experience they were always a higher level than my party since I didn't level much. I would say they scale a set amount instead of by some variable.
This will definitely be a wait for a sale to me. I'm not big on Visual Novel, but combined with the lackluster quests, combat, and story it's a turn off. Thanks for the review!!
For me it’s just the story. I can get behind a simple combat system and I like the visual novel thing just fine but if the story doesn’t make it worth it than I gotta move on
I always wonder why they always sing in Japanese every time you boot up an eastern rpg.. But in western RPGs they don’t ever sing in English.. Why does it have to be so regional?
jRPGFanatic I’m saying to sing in a particular language makes it feel too regional.. They should just leave all the music lyricless imo whether it’s eastern or western
@@Mintcar923 Ah. Personally I don't think a song alone would make a game feel more Eastern or Western. But lyric-less songs can work in some games but would depend on the situation. I don't think it would work in Shining Resonance since two of the characters are Divas and they played an important role in the story. But I also don't mind any kind of non-English songs in my games, though I'd say songs sung in Latin are my favorite.
Because it's fun. I was thinking of games like Ys VIII and Tokyo Xanadu to a lesser extent when I mentioned platforming. The movement in those games were much faster paced and just felt very good when moving around. That said those are more pure action RPGs compared to Shining Resonance. A better example would be to compare it to tales of zestiria which came out around the same time. The dungeons and world in ToZ was much more vast and had more level and depth to them. There was a lot more going on when traveling.
The only thing that comes to mind is any Tales of game. If you had something more specific that you like from the game, then I might be able to think of some more.
I agree. There aren't many games outside of visual novels that let you romance guys unfortunately. The only game I can think of is Persona 3 Portable which let's you change the MC to female and allows you to romance guys. Hope that changes in the future as gaming culture becomes more diverse. Edit: Well, there are kinda some romantic undertones when spending time with the guys.
