I started buying parts in 2005 and purchased the car in August 2006. The video is from May 2008, when we finished the dashboard. We only worked on the car on weekends. The most delays come, when you want to buy parts. Some of them are extremely rare and hard to get, others have delivery times from 10-12 months (dash electronics)... In Germany, the law says, that we are not allowed to mount red (moving) lights in front of a car. The only way is, to mount it that way, that it can not be turned on while driving. So it only works, when the handbreak is pulled. That's why, you won't see any shots of the flashing scanner, while the car is driving. But you can see it at the beginning of the videoclip.
I was in Vegas the Other day, and at the 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign' I saw this CAR!!! I swear to God I got pictures with it and the guy that owned it was there too! I could even touch it! The plates said 'KITT' And I got some Great videos of it! It was awesome....
Nein. Das Gullwing-Lenkrad ist im Straßenverkehr nicht zugelassen. Die Innenaufnahmen, bei denen das Lenkrad montiert ist, entstanden auf einem Privatgrundstück. Wenn man bei den Straßenszenen genau hinschaut, sieht man auch, dass das Lenkrad da rund war ;)
Korrekt. Abgesehen davon ist ein wirklich sicheres Lenken damit tatsächlich kaum möglich. Wer das Gegenteil behauptet, überschätzt die Situation. Eine schnelle Reaktion, wenn man z.B. ausweichen muss, ist definitiv kaum möglich...
Die meisten Replikas, die ein komplettes K.I.T.T.-Dash besitzen, haben auch funktionierende Elektronik drin, die die richtigen Werte anzeigt. In Deutschland gibt's davon allerdings fast noch keine. Mir sind derzeit nur 3-4 bekannt (meins eingeschlossen) - und die meisten anderen befinden sich noch im Bau.
Sehr unterschiedlich. Wenn er mit eingeschaltetem Scanner irgendwo auf dem Parkplatz steht, bleiben die meisten Leute schon davor stehen. Viele machen dann auch Fotos davon. Seitdem das Armaturenbrett eingebaut ist, verzeichne ich außerdem eine steigende Anzahl langsam werdender Autos auf der Überholspur, deren Insassen doch etwas verblüfft sind, dass der Wagen auch von innen K.I.T.T. ist.
The display showing "322" is not the speedometer, but the tachometer, which means, the engine is running with 3220 rounds per minute. The speedometer is on the other side of the dash (displaying 25 KMH at 1:08, when you look closely on the high resolution version of the clip). We're not allowed to drive cars with a gullwing steering wheel in Germany, so of course, there is a round steering wheel, when the car is on legal streets.
The song is a remix of the original Knight Rider Theme, which was made by a German fan. There is no English version of it and also no instrumental version.
In der Basis ist das ein ganz normaler Pontiac Trans Am. Er unterscheidet sich äußerlich nur in der Frontnose und innen durch das Armaturenbrett. Solche Teile kann man einzeln abnehmen und eintragen lassen. Dann ist auch der TÜV kein Problem. Der Rest ist Original Pontiac und muss nicht eingetragen werden. Auch wenn diese Teile selten sind. Das Lenkrad habe ich im Straßenverkehr nicht montiert und der Scanner ist beim Fahren nicht aktivierbar... Von daher alles machbar.
Again, the gullwing steering wheel is not street legal in Germany. That's why I'm using a round one, when driving on streets. The scenes with the gullwing have been filmed at a parking lot. Um etwas bezahlen zu können, müsste es erstmal zum Verkauf stehen... Das tut der Wagen derzeit nicht... und wenn es irgendwann mal soweit sein sollte, dann wird das definitiv kein "Schnäppchen"... aber darüber braucht sich JETZT noch niemand Gedanken zu machen...

Go and build your own replica. Then it's your decision, which language it should "speak"... As long as it's mine, I choose what I prefer... and that's certainly no other voice than the German one, which I just love.
Die Frage sollte sich in den ersten Sekunden des Videos beantworten ;) Im Straßenverkehr ist es allerdings nicht erlaubt, deshalb ist es so geschaltet, dass es nur im Stand aktiviert werden kann...
Saubere Arbeit .. man sieht aber anhand der Außenaufnahmen das im "richtigen" Straßenverkehr mit dem Lenkrad nicht gefahren werden darf in Deutschland .. ;) Hut ab, echt super gemacht .. !

Das hab ich für die Videoaufnahmen entfernt, weil der Wagen dann besser aussieht. Es liegt bei den Straßenszenen hinter der Windschutzscheibe (sieht man am Ende des Videos bei 2:15).
No, i mean this is a classic.. KITT on german, i dont mean that german is bad or something.. i just mean that KITT should be on english... thats the spirit.. you understand :F
No way ;) The German voice is some of the best things about this car... I don't really like Daniel's voice, since I grew up with Knight Rider in German... And that's what most other people here did, too... It's not really a matter of understanding... but if your native language would not be English, you also would not watch movies in French, German or Chinese plus subtitles... You probably would not watch them at all ;)

"KITT should be on english... thats the spirit"... For you, because you grew up with the English version. For me, I grew up with the German version and I just LOOOOOVE the German voice of K.I.T.T. - that's what many Germans do... and since I live in Germany, my K.I.T.T. also "speaks" German... That's also how most people know him here... so that's the spirit for us. I guess it's just as you're used to it. I'm not used to the English version. It sounds nice, but kind of strange, too...
