This episode is from my last days in Zambia and it's full of off-road riding. In first part of the video, I'm riding from Kariba Lake to Livingstone though less travelled roads and in second part of the video I'm showing you a very frustrating road that took me to the Namibian border.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I was raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. I was in Zambia in 2010, i can not belive my eyes looking at that road as it was perfect in 2010 ...I am from Namibia

The problem is that we are not allowed to build iron and steel industries (which we tried to do with the help of Tito of Yugoslavia). The result is that we import asphalt, slap it on the gravel, a few years later it peels off either from erosion, or the wear from traffic. If we had steel, we would put down a grid of rebar, and pour concrete. The roads would then last 50 years because the traffic is so low.

You found my most favourite stretch of road in all Africa. We “donated” a trailer to a village there on our last trip. 10 km of the road was enough to break the tow hitch and destroy the wheel bearings.

What interesting sights along the roads; a rather unique way to get your firewood home and people pushing a car backwards along a so called road. All that dodging of pot holes must have been tedious and exhausting. I will never again complain about the roads in North America.

I don't know how this can be fun.. It kind of reminds me when I did the BAJA 1000 so many years ago with my long departed friend big Al.. We could not wait to get out of the sand and dirt.. Well to each his own I guess..

I did the "Baja 1000" by navy ship back in '66, stopping in Magdalena Bay and LaPaz which was a sleepy LITTLE town at the time, great memories and some old pictures that enabled me to pin point my locations thanks to Google Earth and RU-vid. That would have been awesome to have done "the real thing" as you did...What year? Cheers

When u left malawi u were very great full for malawi, and i agree, then i told u to wait for zambia! Well, now u know what i ment. I also miss zambia a lot, made awesome memories which are still very fresh after 21 years. Namibia is very cool too

Hard to tell everytime someone asks me what i like more from a country over another. I love all the countries i have visited, but zambia was very nice and spent a lot of time, just like kinga. In namibia i was only 1 week and probably didn’t spent enough time to have a better answer. But i had a very nice time there too

At 9:24 the ox is drawing a log. Actually the log is not wood for a fire. You will notice it is Y-shaped to carry goods. It is very destructive and can cause furrows on land resulting in erosion of the soil. It seems that the tar just 'disappeared'🤣 Namibia is a jewel. Happy moto!
