It's been two years since I lost interest in Yankee Candles and I thought it was about time to explain why and where I stand with scented candles these days. All's not quite over though...
Hi Andy! Have you thought about trying Country/Kringle Candle or even Village Candles? They capture that spirit with the picturesque labels, and the scents are quite good too.
Hi there. I didn't have a good experience with Country Candle and Village never seemed to have the complexity of scent that Yankee used to have. I'm kind of over the labels now and I really rate the Woodwick Ellipse candles very highly.
@@andyfair I continue to appreciate all your thorough and well-documented work even til' this day. It will be interesting to get your take on different Woodwick scents. I personally haven't ever bought or tried them but was tempted to try over the years especially when they were being clearanced/on sale. I almost bought a Warm Wool Woodwick and I think there was a Bourbon once that I wanted to try. Either way, I hope that Newell doesn't mess them up too.
Good to see you back Andy. You were there at the start when I got into candles in 2017 and I remember eagerly awaiting your videos. I’ve stopped buying Yankees too - the price has simply got too high. The days of picking up a large jar for £10 are long gone! I too got into Woodwick a few years ago and I agree these are great. I’ve also dabbled in Goose Creek and Village candles. Latterly I’ve also got into Kringle candles, but these can be hard to obtain in the U.K.
So sad to see the beautiful “photo” labels turn into illustrations in the signature range - for me, half the fun of collecting was the scenes depicted on the jars… at times I’ve bought some candles purely for the images on the front. I always thought it made Yankee stand out amongst the crowd of minimalist neutral candles with their basic and boring essential oil inspired scents. Delighted to hear you are going to be reviewing Woodwick - looking forward to it 😃
I completely agree... I also started collecting Yankees but unfortunately I was late and started after they discontinued the first graphic design of jars :( I try to buy YC second hand and I don't want to support the new graphic design that they dropped. For me Yankees have lost their soul in new design (I'm talking about the Signature collection which for me is a complete disaster...). I really miss the old ones and although my collection isn't as impressing as yours, I'm still dreaming of some scents, I really do. For me Yankees have always had some "mysterious" background... They lost it, now they're sweet, flat, predictable. I'm really curious of how some scents really smell and I'm very sad that I will probably never know how Haunted Hayride or Do Re Mi smell. I'm so grateful that you' ve been posting for such a long time. You really gave me some "sneak peak" into some scents so I can at least imagine the atmosphere. Yankee has lost me as well. I buy easter sometimes and my fall and Christmas, that's it. I agree the throw is MUCH weaker and I miss the large photo. I have proudly switched to Kringle Candle.
I'm glad you want to start doing WoodWick candles, Andy. That line is very underrated because it's not so attention-getting as (in the US) Bath and Body Works. The fragrance compositions with WoodWick tend to be more sophisticated and they have great throw. My first was Biscotti, back when they were sold only through Hallmark stores and select boutiques in the US - that was 2007, I think? I still have it, poor thing, looking like Old Deuteronomy (the cat) among my many candles, but still beautiful. Looking forward to seeing your content. :)
Such a shame you no longer like Yankee Candle but understand why. I have also grown tired of them. The scents don’t seem true to life anymore and are very perfumey and mixed up for my liking. I have just purchased a Haeckels Rain Candle and it’s amazingly true to life. It is worth checking out if you like watery type scents.
Hey Andy nice to see your face again! Sad that you have fallen out of love with Yankee Candle I love the original jars and have a huge collection of them I really hated the thought of the new signature line, but I have dived into them and have been enjoying them the burn is lovely and the throw has been a lot better than recent years. I have ones on my shelf that I will never burn completely in the original jar. Woodwick is fantastic I really enjoy the burn in the large hourglass and the throw, and that cozy comforting crackle ❤️
Ahh this brought a tear to my eye! We’ll never recapture that Yankee magic. I used to love the Team Yankee group burns and secret Santa. I’ve only got my autumn and Christmas Yankees now, my favourites. I don’t burn anything in the spring/ summer so I’m counting down to 1st September when I can get the pumpkin scents out!
