Hello everyone, In this tutorial I talk to you about my latest technical discovery, involving the middle finger in the bow arm, I think it has a big effect and I hope it helps you find a deeper sound. Hope you enjoy the video.

Great tip. I discovered that I tend to do it by instinct without thinking about the reason. Thanks for highlighting.

In fact, for me, those both ways are the most natural ways to hold it. Thanks.

While I have far more issues to address as I learn cello then this minor bow change, I think at all levels of playing a good lesson is to really listen how changes affect your tone, sound and playability. While I’ve only been learning cello a few years, starting late at 40yo, what has surprised me is the amount of effort and discipline necessary to improve bow technique. Minor changes have significant impact on sound and comfort. It is amazing the expressive possibilities with the bow, but it also presents a challenge to the learner in getting the desired tone. Playing fast passages cleanly with many string crossings is my current challenge I’m working to overcome so I can play comfortably with a local community orchestra.

Thank you for the tip, Mr. Pablo! Your last tip about the slight change of the thumb position was helpful so I’m sure this will be too

Ivan Monighetti told me this a few months ago during a masterclass, and it's really useful in order to have more contact with the bow and the string, to have more weight and finally more sound.

Muchas gracias, Pablo! I tried this bow hold right away and feel more confidence and more control with the bow. This is especially true when I'm doing thumb positions on lower strings. The regular bow hold feels a little muffled. With this slight change, I can feel a stronger sound coming out of those lower strings.

Me encanta que cada vez que veo que has colgado un vídeo corto pienso "no dirá mucho en este vídeo" y siempre me equivoco. Es genial cómo sintetizas tantas cosas y tan interesantes, siempre aprendo un montón, ¡gracias!

I know this way of holding a bow (far back), it comes from Frans Helmerson. I have my doubts that a deeper sound will be achieved this way, but if it works for some, so be it. It might work fine for a tenuto sound, but I'm not so sure it will work for something lighter. Anyway, it doesn't work for me. Thanks for sharing.

It depends totally on the bow I think. It can work with light bows and up to something like 78g or so
@mosaiques23
@mosaiques23 2 года назад
@@guidosc3470 Not at all. I know Helmerson and how he teaches. No matter how heavy the bow is, the grip is the same.

Gracias por tan excelente video Pablo. Me fascinó aquella idea de "moldear el sonido". Verdaderamente el arco es una extensión natural de tu brazo derecho. Saludos desde México :)

Pablo, is it time to design a more comfortable frog 🐸 for the bow. Would you explore this question when you meet and converse with the other great world cellists. Maybe in a year or two you might have an answer.

Hello, my cello teacher recommended me to watch this video. I want to ask you what I can do to relax my hands when I play, especially my thumbs. because it really costs me a lot to enjoy my instrument when I play it and above all to relax; my shoulder goes up, my hands tighten and the truth is that I end up sore. thanks

Ya estuve probando y me di cuenta que ya lo hacía inconscientemente pero con el anular, siempre que estoy buscando ese sonido profundo, pienso en "que baje la vara" y en automático mi dedo anular se coloca en esa posición 🤯
