People talk about Aang being out of character, but they don't talk about Edward being out of character too. All his dialogue is just him being cocky, which is not what he acts like at all.
Pretty much every other character is out of character in the 1st place due to these fights being 'death battles'. Batman & Spider-Man fight to kill each other & I find that hard to believe they would do something like that.
@@nadroji6549 and Deadpool fighting with a pony, like, if that were IN-CHARACTER DEADPOOL, he would get along Pinky and her friends, like, this is just some dumb shit, he LOVES silly shit and it's a dumb thing he even fights with her, in the first place
clearly that was parallax hal, but yeah Ben 10, atleast if he was following the death battle rules of having him At their strongest peak of all time instead of just being his classic self with all his new aliens, would prob demolish Hal
21:28 also sanji won't care if you don't like his food , he would go " oh OK then what do you like " . He only cares if you disrespect food , he has dealt with picky eaters before most likely he wouldn't kill someone over it . Sanji would kill someone of so many things but you choose the most out of character one
being needlessly OOC is the main problem i had with frank west vs leon kennedy. frank would not be looting stores in a disaster area; he would be investigating the place and trying to find out what happened (also, looters are almost always portrayed negatively in dead rising). the other thing is frank picking a fight just because he can, putting him in a needlessly antagonistic role. with everything that has happened to him, frank has every reason to be distrustful of a government agent, so he could have escalated the conflict while staying true to his character and a little nitpick, but "stayed awake for 72 hours straight" and "killed 53K zombies" should not be listed in feats. the first is a gameplay thing, and 72 hours in game translates to 6 hours in real time (also, he does sleep, as the saving animation in the safe house involves frank taking a nap). the latter is simply an achievement, and killing that many zombies while also getting the best (and canon) ending is impossible
If rock Lee found something like a hair in the food and refused to eat it that would have made sense for the Sanji point, he hates people who waste food
no he wouldn't that's the thing he wouldn't kill anyone he wouldn't even let vinsmoke judge die because as he said his father would be disappointed in him even a terrible man as judge is he saved him
I 100%agree with the PTSD take. I suffer from PTSD and what I've been told is my body just shakes or spasms and my eyes look dead but somehow also occupied while the rest of face just strains and tenses up.
Therapist: Realistic Popeye isn't real. He can't hurt you Realistic Popeye: Frank "Rocky" Fiegel (January 27, 1868 - March 24, 1947) was a real-life person from E. C. Segar's home town of Chester, Illinois who (like J. William Schuchert and Dora Paskel) inspired a Thimble Theatre character. In this case, Popeye. Frank Fiegel, nicknamed "Rocky", was a well-known Chester individual. Something of a local legend, he supposedly had an inordinate strength and often participated in fights. Like Popeye, he smoked a pipe and was toothless. He is said to have been kind to children as well. Since 1996, his gravestone bears an engraving of Popeye's face as he first appeared in Thimble Theatre.
17:57 You can indeed buy a single slice of pizza. It's usually sold as fast food, for a quick lunch. But the slices are usually bigger than the the kind you would get from a chain's pizza.
Nemesis: Hey Biff Biff: Yeah Nem? Nemesis: wouldn't it be funny if we had a 5 second long shot of Bane standing there holding a rocket launcher? Biff: Fuck it, why not?
18:29 Finally someone has talked about that line, It's always bothered me that he didn't say something like 'Looks like I have the high ground now!' in some taunting tone and more said it like he himself was just realising this fact.
I would argue that for the PTSD scene, Jason is a much more emotionally volatile character and also in the middle of a fight. So having start to freak out physically isn't unbelievable. I do agree he did go overboard portraying that.
What makes the Optimus Prime quote even worse, is that he calls the Gundam a decepticon. Meaning he doesn't realize it's a human piloted mech. But, that means Optimus thinks he just started a fight with an enemy soldier who's been fighting the war for almost as long as he has, and saying "I've been in battle for countless aeons." Why would he say that to an enemy soldier who almost certainly knows how long the war has been going on for, and definitely knows who Optimus Prime is. It makes no sense. They just wanted to throw that line in there to remind the viewers of that fact.
It’s a decepticon he doesn’t know, so my guess is he assumes that the gundam is a new member of the decepticons (most likely constructed fairly recently)
Shout out to Bucky vs Fox McCloud, where Nem’s least favorite scene and Biff’s most favorite scene are one in the same. Clearly the most controversial death battle.
Well the reason is - hey I’m hungery I could go for a pizza but I don’t want a whole pizza I think I will grab a slice at Casicys (a convent store/ gas station)
When you're on a lunch break from work you don't have time to wait for a whole pizza to be cooked for you and you don't have time or reason to eat a whole pizza, either.
In defense of the Absolute Zero Cannon thing, an after fight scene was to show Tommy walking away from the wrecked DragonZord, showing he ejected and thus why he never let go THAT SAID, knowing we sadly never got that scene (or Akane emerging from her rubble too), we can only judge with what we have for certain so its still understandable
One thing I will say in defense of the BFG Bubble Shield thing, Bubble Shields in 3 and the Drop Shield in Reach actually DO stop projectiles instantly upon dropping it, the entire time the Shield is expanding. There's an og RU-vid series called Halo Mythbusters that looked into it frame by frame. So hypothetically Chief COULD react and drop the Shield in time. The example in that video is a rocket launcher from even closer distance than they looked in the DB. No comment on the Plasma Grenade going through it tho.
18:10 That's literally perfect characterization of Gray, though. Not saying it's good, but they did nail that regard. He literally goes to use that move, like, 10 times in the series and every time is honestly unnecessary
Remember what he said in Shao Kahn vs M. Bison. The fight is good, but not devoid of problems, nothing is, not even his favorite episode (Godzilla VS Gamera). These are for ones who did not get the message apparently.
16:25 I'm sorry but Aang kills people all the time: the soldiers he threw off the ladder in the blue spirit, the person he blasted off the cliff in avatar day, all the people he threw off the northern air temple and the people in the balloons in the invasion. He also alomst killed Jet in his first episode by blowing him off a high tree. The kill should have been in character more, he should have thrown him off a tall place.
Yes Nem here in America, especially in New York most pizza places do sell by the slice. I know your question was mostly rhetorical but I just wanted to clear that up for you. :-)
Great video. Here are some least favourite scenes of mine: -Optimus vs Gundam: Optimus happily saying "Let's roll!" as he is about to charge on what he thinks is a Decepticon, a.k.a. a potentially dangerous enemy. As far as Optimus knew, that was not the time to go "Yayyy!". -Hulk vs Broly: The "puny god" reference. Seriously, weak sound design and even some way too quick animation make this so so unimpactful. How can you mess up a "puny god" reference? -Madara vs Aizen: The setup. Confusing and comes out of nowhere. -Jotaro vs Kenshiro: The setup. Kenshiro challenges Jotaro in a death battle for no reason at all, we get some stupid-looking hand-drawn bits, the line "I'll take you on." is such an anime line (in a bad, cringy and unnatural way) and why is Joseph running away like a bitch? Was it too hard to animate 3 seconds of him just walking backwards? Why have him run away when his grandson is about to fight for his life? -Korra vs Storm: Sooooo, how do we follow up on Storm's character moment when she enters the Spirit World, one of the greatest scenes in Death Battle history? Let's have Storm just throw a sand attack at Korra and have Korra just go through Storm's attack as if it is nothing and smack Storm around. -Luigi vs Tails: Right before the death, we have an angry Tails get in front of a fallen Luigi even tho they both received the same blow, because apparently Luigi was not humiliated enough and did not get the shit kicked out of him enough during the entire fight. -Blake vs Mikasa: The setup. Mikasa acts a bit too aggressively and why is Blake just ignoring a direct warning of a Titan attack? Also, Blake screams "leave me alone" while attacking Mikasa. Some people said (possibly ironically) that if Blake was looking at a picture of Yang, then the setup would make more sense, although I feel that if the roles were reversed and Mikasa was looking at a drawing of Eren, then this would make even more sense. -Akuma vs Shao Kahn: Either Kahn's first line (because of the terrible delivery) or a moment where Oni gets a combo on Kahn, yet Kahn's body does not react to it. -Yang vs Tifa: Why did Yang just suckerpunch a random dude who was just doing his job? -Goku vs Superman 1: Superman destroying the Senzu beans feels a bit dickish. You could say that it was a tactical move on Superman's part (taking out his opponent's healing item), but it felt more like an unreasonably rude response to Goku politely offering a Senzu bean. -Po vs Iron Fist: Po seemed way too chill about having incinerated a dude he just met. Leopold the Brave brought up a decent argument to defend that scene, but I feel that there is little too much of a difference between "sending Tai Lung to the Spirit World after he beat up my master and me" and "incinerating this random dude I just met". -Yoshi vs Riptor: How did Yoshi escape from Riptor's combo? -Wario vs King Dededee: Was it really that necessary to have the moment where the Goomba and the Deedle Dee find out who the two wrestlers they were watching actually were so gorey? I mean, just look at the Goomba mouth! -Shadow vs Ryuko: Ryuko just shrugging off her friend being in actual pain after getting sliced by Shadow pisses me off just as much as Ryuko calling him "stupid". -Hulk vs Doomsday: I'm 100% sure that this is not how Hulk's Thunderclap works. Eh, it's still a cool sequence so I'm not too bothered by it. -Link vs Cloud 2: OK, Cloud falling on those rocks outlasts its welcome (but it's still kinda funny) and him just so happening to land on the spot where the Fusion Sword was feels weird. Also, the first shot of Link coming to the ground with his glider is hilarious. -Batgirl vs Spider-Gwen: Batgirl throws a little hammer at Spider-Gwen. It's stupid, pointless, amounts to nothing and looks waaaay funnier than it should. Then again, we also have Batgirl randomly break Spider-Gwen's webs, the confusing scene where Spider-Gwen shot webs at Batgirl and Batgirl competely ignoring those gallons of blood falling from her leg, so maybe I should have picked one of those moments instead. (Update regarding Po vs Ironfist: On Redrunner's channel came out an awesome Death Battle Season 8 ranking, which presented a better defense to the ending of the animation, but my opinion on the ending still stands.)
17:58 funny you say that because I bought a single slice of pizza to go with my chips/fries for my lunch today but at least mine was bigger than that little thing Also yes, I was assigned British at birth
Hey man sometimes you’re in the mood for a pizza but don’t want to waste money on a whole box, most of it’s gonna be leftovers or wasted anyway, so buying a single slice is good for that
The starter Pokémon battle royale is really well animated considering the sprite limitations. Charizard uses fan made sprites but Blastoise and Venusaur seem to use primarily their gen 5 sprites. Which have one animated standing front and back pose and nothing else.
As someone from the US and furthermore specifically from NYC, yes people do buy a single slice of pizza. But that doesn’t alter because Leo is fucking NINJA TURTLE, HE SHOULD BE WALKING OUT WITH AN ENTIRE PIE REGARDLESS
I do agree with you on Thanos vs Darkseid. The holding back the planet thing looked really weird. Plus, I'm 99% certain that's Jupiter, a gas giant. No surface. How is he holding it at all? It should just go through him. Or at least, should him holding back the core of the planet.
As someone who works in a pizza place in the US, not only do people buy individual slices of pizza, they will pay money for DELIVERY for a single slice of pizza
You know, the idea of having Aang kill while keeping in character did stick out to me. Sure, I'm a believer that you do have to make sacrifices to get characters who normally wouldn't kill eachother to do it, but maybe they could have had Aang killing Edward clearly be an action of the Avatar State, not him, similar to how it was for a good while in the series
19:25 I found a video about a PTSD attack. It's disturbing so it's hard watch, but it shows a veteran having a PTSD attack where he swings his arms to fight off police officers who are trying to arrest him. It's called "Video shows Marine with PTSD in dangerous confrontation with police officers" by Click On Detroit | Local 4 | WDIV
In Spider-Man vs Batman, you can actually see Spider-Man shorting webs both at and behind Batman which is the reason why it “materializes” behind batman
7:23 No you don't know, because you seem to still make the same mistake that the episode itself does in thinking Knuckles in the games is as dumb as his boom self, which he isn't. Seriously, i'm sorry if you're tired of being corrected but i'm tired of correcting you about it too yet will continue to do so untill you finally stop calling Knuckles an idiot.
Knuckles may be easily tricked, quick to anger, and even quicker to punch first and think later, but he's not stupid. Only in Sonic Boom is he an outright idiot.
9:22 That actually is (mostly) how “BONK! Atomic Punch!” works in TF2. When the Scout drinks it, he gains temporary invincibility. The downsides are that while he’s invincibility, he cannot attack. After the invincibility ends, he gains a speed penalty for each hit that he took while invincible. He should not have been able to swing his bat at Tracer while the Bonk! was active though, so yeah, they messed up there.
I understand the misconception, but as with many Mental/Emotional problems, there are A LOT of variations of PTSD. There are, as you said, the ones where you can’t offer any resistance and you just quake on fear, however I’ve seen a veteran (surprisingly he’s not the big sufferer) have to take care of his daughter who’s afraid to go outside because she met a man who drugged and raped her. She’s scared of basically the entire male population now, and I only still talk to her because she’s a family friend. (not blood but the type of person you consider family because you’ve known them for so long.) When she sees a man she goes into a blindly angry state. she still wants someone who will “save” her, but due to that not being what happened when the REAL incident went down the professionals think that her brain is now wired to believe that (in their words) “Escape isn’t an option for her anymore.” So she believes to get out of a bad situation, she has to do it herself.
8:24 i disagree completely. they're on a different falling platform. that's why Dante and Bayonetta aren't there. why do you even think they're on the same platform? like, i've heard this take of yours before and, it's complete ass. i mean, Trish and Jean split off from the original fight completely to debut DBX. the falling platform just has a reused texture. congrats for noticing. this doesn't mean an entire other fight is going on while these two are fighting on the same platform, Death Battle just cut some corners. as they tend to do.
it actually makes me angry thinking about. like, it's such an easy explanation that the fights are happening on two separate falling platforms, they just have reused textures.
I'm pretty sure they constantly react to each other's lines, and coupled with the fact that they don't put any effects over the lines' audio to signify they are thoughts, I doubt that was the intention. Also, even if those were indeed just thoughts, they still take too much of the animation's time, wrecking the pace and all that
Yeah I wasn’t a fan of how Harry Potter just spammed/immediately went for the Killing Curse, because right off the bat it’s extremely out of character for Harry to do. _Just because the Killing Curse exists does not mean Harry would be the one to use it._
I wish they do more remake (not different result just offer better fight). There a lot of little bits here and there to complain about but i really want them to Redo Robocop vs Terminator. It is one of my favorite in many regards but man the city render and the robocop model look awful, seriously. The material of his suit change from scene to scene and is sometime straight upglitching. Also, who the hell decide to have Murphy say "you're coming with me alive or dead"? First of all, everyone in general always say "Dead or alive" and on top of that why even have him say his catchphrase backward? It doesn't sound more badass it just sound akward. Yeah Robocop my Childhood hero i mostly have issues with him in this battle. With Mk11 out, they could make it look 100 times better with the aid of the amazing new models.
For me one of the biggest DB fuck ups was the Starscream vs. Rainbow Dash battle where RD takes a point blank Null Ray without injury..Nevermind in the Transformers PILOT we see Starscream's Null Ray has enough concussive force to blow apart a large part of a mountain. Organic or not RD has never been shown to tank a mountain-level attack without injury.
Not before, but now we do in some capacity with the final two-parter given how casually half of the castle is destroyed and no injuries to show for it But given how early it was, there wasn't much to go on which makes the continuation with the concept strange
@@nameynamd9212 Exactly, we're going by Season 1-2 Rainbow Dash who has street-level durability (getting hit by a Manticore knocked her down and blows from normal ponies have been able to daze her) at best.
@@PlanetZoidstar Only real argument at that point would be her not getting hit by it(which probably would be something that could be calculated, but the earlier fights never seemed to usually bring up reaction time)
Bit of coonstructive critisim but recently youve been speaking a bit too quickly in your videos. Not sure if thats due to scripting but Im not sure if most people can understand everything youre saying. Still enjoyable but I think just pausing for a slightly longer period between each word could make your descriptions a bit easier to understand
16:26 This is my ultimate problem with Death Battle. The title rule, that every fight MUST end in a death. It completely breaks the canon of 90% of the involved characters' personalities, and is an undeniable insult for the loser's side. Versus debates can be pretty toxic, but I don't think people would get _quite_ as heated if it weren't for the often deliberately disrespectful manner in which the losers get finished off, especially the DB crew's relatively early phase where they insisted on making some extra "take that!" post-Fatality humiliation crap, like Strider blowing up Ryu's corpse. I mean, just look at Goku vs Superman 2. It's still a death, yes, but Goku and Superman give each other the proper respect, and while there where still vitriolic comments and people still whine in public about the outcome, most of the reaction was far more chill. Not only did Superman make it clear he only did it because his hand was forced, he did it bloodlessly, painlessly, and prevented Goku's corpse from splattering. And the analysis was more about reminding people why these two characters are so beloved and icon-- To this day, Goku vs Superman 2 is still something I quote when I need to remind myself of what Superman really is. But having the loser die, even in heroic matchups, is almost always out-of-character and serves no true purpose besides pissing off the fans of that character, assuming they don't get traumatized instead by the horrifically gruesome fatalities. Speaking of which, I find it hilarious that they made Twilight Sparkle's death ambiguous and cartoonish "for the kids", but go out of their way to make Pokémon, Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Bucky O'Hare, and countless other "kids characters" deaths as gruesome and horrible as possible. Especially since they've been _seriously_ upping the gore factor lately, even with people's childhood icons. I get that they do it to avoid "well X would've won if he wasn't holding back", but if winning this hypothetical fight is seriously worth presenting a completely different character wearing this body and its powers to you, then I think you should reconsider how important this versus stuff is. Especially when they can still win by knockout or even by diplomacy. Seriously, it happens in all kinds of crossovers for a reason, and it's not necessarily because the writers are wimps. And that's only my biggest problem. I could go into others, but I think a lot of them have been covered by other people here, so, have a nice day everybody.
9:22 honestly, every scene in this annoyed me as a fan of both tf2 and overwatch ignoring the fact how bonk makes scout fast enough to dodge bullets AND IGNORING THE FACT HOW SCOUT HIT THE HOMERUN MEANING TRACER WOULDVE INSTANTLY DIED SINCE HE"S STRONG ENOUGH TO DESTROY A TANK WITH A FUCKING FISH scout did something similar that the character Doomfist did which broke the accelerator which should just basically fuck up tracer BUT NOPE she gets to use recall because they spent more research seeing how much sugar was in a fucking drink
Even though I was annoyed by how Kirby basically pooped out his copy ability and also did Yoshi which is my cousin’s favorite character and that is a coincidence I still love Kirby vs Buu and the fact they just didn’t have a dbz character win because they could especially since the fight was also super well choreographed and fast paced
I frequently will get pizza by the slice for lunch. Obviously not the freshest piece you'll get but the brick oven place i get my pizza at has great pizza when its hot, reheated or even cold.
I think what Hercule's referring to in having "one capsule left" is the fact that he had one last capsule on his person, rather than there only being one capsule in general
You could argue Red Hood was trying to fight off the PTSD to focus on Bucky but having a hard time trying to control of his mental state which is why he's flailing his arms around. But idk shit about actual PTSD reactions. But I can't bring myself to hate this scene, i love that episode too much.
To be fair with the ugly Megazord vs. Voltron models, they actually did say in one DBC video that they got screwed over and roped along by a model creator for a long ass time who had no idea what they were doing and that that video was the biggest nightmare in the channel's history to make because of how green they were at the time when it came to dealing with commissioning from outside of ScrewAttack. It became the most expensive episode to date to make, and after being trapped in development hell for at least a year they (somewhat understandably) decided to 2077 it out as fast as possible. The voice acting being bad was just what happens when you hire people for "Hey, it that's person!" factor rather than actual talent(after seeing multiple examples of him trying, I can safely say that MatPat is just a legitimately bad actor) Tl;dr: DB's trust and optimism died over the years but at least what it now has in their place is a mostly working formula.
In robocop vs terminator Robocop hides behind a car to avoid the plasma rifle shots, but then in the next camera shot that SAME car is now suddenly like a few feet over...what gives?!
