"Hear about my life of Starcraft, its downs and ups and everything in between."
No, you didn't just travel back in time - this is an early episode of the Daily that I brought to RU-vid by request. If you like this, let everyone know about it! And don't be afraid to share this with friends - especially if they don't understand why video games are important!

You know every time I watch this( I go back to it every few months or so) i always remember why Day9 is such an important person in my life. He has taught me so much about life and being a person and I haven't even met him. Day9 has inspired me to become the man I am today, someone who strives to be kind, positive, energitic and hard working. I think how much better the world would be if more people could be like Sean, how much happier life would become if everyone had something that they loved and cared about as much as he does about StarCraft. I am so glad I started watching Day9 all those years ago and still keep watching even though I don't play StarCraft anymore because I can honestly say that Sean Day9 Plott has had a bigger effect on my life than any other single human being.

Thinking about iNcontroL brought me back here. This is hands down my favorite thing Day9 ever did and I remember watching this when it first went up. Brood War is my all time favorite game and Starcraft 2 has made a huge impression on me because of personalities like Day9 and iNcontroL. I spent so many hours listening to Artosis and djWheat. Its may sound dumb but listening to Sean's stories and advice actually got me through some difficult times. I really miss those days just after WoL launched. It seemed like the Starcraft and eSports scene was really exploding in the US for the first time. It felt like being part of something amazing. So, just in case I never get to say it, thank you Sean.

It really did feel like an amazing emerging scene in america. It was exciting and there was tons of content and amateur tournaments, lots of fun parody songs and such. It was such a huge part of my senior year of college and the year following that. It's really sad to see everything fall so far by the wayside with how big it was and how long brood war has lasted. Don't get me wrong, Magic is my game and magic content is great but I really miss the old dailies and constant barrage of SC2

Damien Quinton Im gonna be that prick that calls you out on knowing nothing about child development. Babies often take their first steps before they are 1. Kids are starting to write at 3, having conversations, building things, riding a bike. They can very well mess about with a video game. There are video games out there designed for 2 year olds. Are they going to grasp something like starcraft? maybe not, but they can still mess about with it.

@hanhanson103
@hanhanson103 10 лет назад
Damien Quinton A three year old playing starcraft and simply making marines doesn't sound so crazy assuming he watched a parent a bit before hand. At three years old I was playing the Legend of Zelda, a Link to the Past on the SNES. I was just running around the overworld, killing soldiers, with no idea how to progress. Oftentimes I would recognize something like "Hey, I really like the song that plays in that foggy forest" So I would just go and kill bad guys in that forest, so the theme would play constantly. However, over time I figured out the map button, saw there were flashing things on the map, and simply deduced that was where I should go. Children aren't always bumbling idiots who just want to put things in their mouth and cry. And most (not all, every child develops differently though there may be similarities to other children.) children are walking, I mean full on "you better have you house childproofed" adventurous kind of walking, at 2. Not just taking their first steps. Anyways, next time you "call someone out on their bullshit" don't start making immediate assumptions to that person's character, like guessing when they might have actually bought the game or hinting that their the type of person to lie about themselves. Considering your profile claims you are 18 years old, I would go so far to say you simply assumed your statement of children taking their first steps at 3, and would go as far to say you should probably stop assuming things altogether or start being prepared to google . Did I just make the same assumptions you did? Yes, but at least I took a minute of my time to the weakest bit of research required to make my assumption more of an educated guess.

Man. I've been depressed for about four years now, and very few things can make me feel anything but despair and fear. This video made me feel fear over a hope. A hope that I can get things back together and be the person I used to and want to be. That if I just keep trying and deal with the fear as opposed to accept it, I can make it work. That I can let life back in. And it starts with me. Dude, I know this sounds like an overly dramatic RU-vid comment (which it totally is), but there's a person behind this text saying thanks, Day[9]. I got something to do now.

I think it's the charisma that Day9 has which overwhelm us to try harder. The first time I saw this video, i wont say that it changed my life, but for the better part i felt hopeful of the future. Just try to live your life maybe with 10% of the charisma that day9 has and you will be fine my friend.

Are you two moping over the fact that you're neckbeards? Seriously, you made your own beds, don't cry like you are some victim. There are people out there homeless and starving and you're having some kind of emotional breakdown over living an existence in which you CHOSE. Get up, make the change, be a better person. Have goals, get your degrees, get a good job and most importantly please go to the gym.
@Nick0Kyuubi0Narion
@Nick0Kyuubi0Narion 9 лет назад
LulzRoyce Depression isn't moping, buddyroo. Not all of us get to choose the lives we end up in. Maybe you live in a privileged world where all choice is easy and free. I had to move out of Iraq with my family two years after the war and we've had to move countries twice more since. Don't ridicule strangers' lives when you don't know about them. All of that aside, even if someone got to choose their life and are dissatisfied bout it, it doesn't mean you can be a shithead to them. You can't just choose to change your life when you're depressed. It's a disease. People have a hard time getting out of bed, never mind going to the gym or getting goals. Here's a video where a kind and successful dude is describing the struggle that led him to where he is, and here are two people saying that they're in a hard part in their lives and this helped them. Why do you have to jump in the middle and tell them they're being assholes for not being happy enough, or accuse them of stereotypes from 20 years ago, and then top it off by acting like you know what life is all about? How do people being grateful and sharing bits of their life disturb you so much?

iDragonarion I get it man. I've been through similar issues, and something that surprised me to no end is that, despite how often this phrase gets thrown around, it gets better. It doesn't get better instantly, and to my experience, it isn't happening easily either, but it gets *better*. I know how it feels, and I heard people say that and I found it impossible to accept, but it's true. Noticing things getting better, myself starting to feel better, darker moods and urges not hitting me quite as hard, it's a wonderful thing I can't accurately describe. There will always be people like that guy, you handled that pretty well imo. It's not specifically related, but this story I'm about to relay actually had a big impact on me and definitely made me happier. I actually got to meet Sean at the 2014 Redbull Battlegrounds last year. After Bomber won casters and players, cool people from the community like Temp0 were just hanging around everywhere and talking to people and chilling. I'm not comfortable getting into details about my story, but to directly contrast the ways I had been feeling, the sense of community, this really just, jovial warmth of all these people was infectious. When I say I got to meet Sean, you have to understand I actually *met* him. And I have to say he is by far one of the nicest people on the planet bar none. I've always liked him and his humor and personality, loved the dailies, his decktaculars are also fun, he was their standing around with a line of people to get him to sign stuff. There were some players I wanted to meet but Day9 took priority. I stood in line for like half an hour, but it wasn't because there was a huge line (which there was), I was actually like, 8th or so in line. It took so long because when you go to meet Sean, it's not just, "alright hey what's this? sure I'll sign it. glad you had a good time. next" First thing he does is smile and say "Hey I'm Sean, what's your name? Shakes your hand. Well hey there [your name here] how's it going? How'd you enjoy the tournament? He asks you about the games, what you liked, he genuinely talks to you. He's really gracious and involved, the guy before me had a 10 minute conversation about a game series they had both played. You can really tell he's not there just because, he's there because he wants to be, he cares, he's really polite, and really tall, easily 6'2". He doesn't overdress, he wears jeans with his blazer, he's really down to earth and just a really fun guy in a genuine way. Meeting everyone there you get kind of nervous and starstruck, and you're nervous and you don't want to be awkward or anything, but meeting Sean was none of those things, it was an absolute blast. We talked about his videos, about how I like the zerg ones best as a zerg player, asked for his advice holding immortal sentry all ins, his supervisor said everyone had to go outside because the line was too long. We went outside and I got a photo with him, my friend was calling me during when I was trying to take pictures and he took that really well and was patient. Signed my keyboard really well, was a really cool guy just all around. You see him in videos? How awesome he is? He's every bit of that in person and if there's one person I would want to hang out with after a tournament it's him. Hearing him talk at the end about what he wants with starcraft, it's really cool to hear that and to know that he's done those things. He's doing those things. He is that person he wants to be. Sean is my favorite person in esports.

I started playing StarCraft 2 when I was 7 or 8, and I made a few friends, created a clan which went to 100 people, and I use to watch Day [9]'s StarCraft 2 videos, this video reminded me of why I watched him, and how he made me play, he was the RU-vidr that played a game that I did, and he inspired me to play that game, as an 8 year old I only made it to silver, but his stories inspired me to get to silver, he inspired me to play Starcraft 2 the way I did. With passion, dedication, and having a good time

I just revisited this after all these years. I watched it live! I actually forgot all about you Sean, I grew a family and moved on to less time consuming games and all that jazz but just recently I reinstalled SC2 and on a custom map selector, your name, Day9, was right there. The feels man, the feels! I spent last night watching Funday Mondays, UNIDEN!!! Oh my gosh man, it feels great to be back! I will be catching up with what you have been up to the last 10 years and checking back into the game too. A lot has changed I am sure! Huge love from the UK man, I hope you and your family are well ❤

You probably don't read these comments because you're too busy being awesome but thank you... I hope I get to meet you someday. Best wishes.

You just helped me understand something about myself that I have been hovering around for a long time. I don't even play SC but I do competitively play a lot of other games and to be honest, your life advice is so key. When you said that you lost bunny in Singapore and I saw your reaction in this video, something hit me. You said, "I lost the most sentimental thing in my life because I was so focused on being mad at myself", or something extremely similar to that. I think that was probably a transition period for you in terms of focus and failure and success, defined by our own individual meanings of that obviously, but, that just kickstarted something in me and I have no idea what it's going to do yet but, I just wanted to let you, or anyone else know that I think that statement is incredibly important, and I think I'm going to learn a lot from it. Thank you Sean.

Bruh - amazing video! Can't believe I never saw this video before. My StarCraft life has been going about as long, though without the levels of success. Started playing in about '99 around 10-11yrs. Some of my friends liked it, but noone was a into it as me. Gaming until all hours, building websites to host ladders, iCCup and Abyss and Gamei and WGTour and and and. So many amazing memories. Being from remote central Australia, I never had the chance to meet other StarCraft addicts or attend events. However, from 2014-2017 I travelled around North America and got to meet many of my childhood BW mates IRL. Trying to explain to the girl I was with at the time that we were going to meet up with and stay with someone I'd never met or even verbally spoken with before was just... well, for me it was like I knew these people better than many of the people I've known in person throughout my life. The shared pursuit of BW progress, plus love of the game, and communities it helped to forge... something special for sure. My two older brothers never appreciated BW though. They figured I was just wasting my time when I should be chasing women or something else. They were 3 and 7 years older than me though, probably more years than you and Nick. In 2003 my eldest brother was killed and we left my remote town and moved to New Zealand. For the next few years I moved around a lot, just me and my parents, having left all childhood friends in my hometown. It was during these years that I really relied on my StarCraft friends and online community for a place to belong. I didn't know it at the time, of course. I just thought I lived playing the game. But really, it was everything that went with it; much more than just a game. By that stage, I'd already known many of them for a number of my formative years. You really just don't realise how much that stuff means to you until well after the fact. But hearing you talk about it so openly and with the benefit of hindsight just summed it up perfectly. Thank you mate, you're a star!
