An update video would be nice to see. I love watching the process of you building ponds but we rarely get to see them filled with water and greened up surrounds. Being it's your own, maybe we could see a walk around video.
On todays episode of "This old pond." Chris repairs an admitted budget build. Good video Chris hope to see the video for the proper fix. Glad that you damned it up for know.
I'm almost 65 Suze in Reno. I cannot stop watching your excellent moves... It looks like smooth as frosting a cake! 😳😁😋❤ 💜🚜 Thank you... Love Winston too❤💜😊
PVC is so smooth and slick on the outside that I am surprised anyone can get a proper seal with it when using it as an overflow. If anyone can, it's you.
@Cade Franco bruh I never understood weirdos like you Leave your poor girlfriend alone😭 tf she do to you If she cheated let her go If she hasn’t, don’t worry about it But damn you like a creep now all up in her business without her knowing
It survived several hurricanes. I remember you building that pond and just the torrent of water going over the top. It never washed out. You did a helluva job.
If you want to get rid of the brown water quickly, the fastest route is to place activated carbon within the pond. It will attach itself to the tannins and other unwanted materials and remove them from the water. A very simple way to add oxygen to the pond is to add an air pump. Sitting at the side of the pond, it will pump air through a small hose to an air stone and bubbles will enter the water. When the bubbles break the water's surface oxygen will then be added. Prevent excess nutrients in the pond with natural bacteria and enzyme mixtures.
We use smooth PVC pipe & well casing here all the time and rubber anti-seep collars with no issues here in the tri state area of OH,IN & MI but might be are clay soils are different yet we freeze hard as well. I do like your style of drainage though my pond near an acre of surface and a 5'' has worked fine for 20 yrs now but we don't get the rains/storms you guys get there ! My pond stays near overflow year round too from land run off !
Maybe build a coffer dam around the intake instead of draining the pond, tongue and groove / depends on how fast the pond refills itself. Enjoyed watching you at work.
It must be hard to talk about something you did wrong on your own property when it's your main line of work. But so is life, you learn and make your work better over time. I forsee a video one day where you overbuild it like crazy.
I can’t see a guy like this having ‘aw shit’ moments and/or messing up.....this guy doesn’t make mistakes. It was one of those things that just happens I think.
Hey Chris !! I kinda know the Owner of that Pond and he's pretty "OCD" about his shit !! Your gonna have to seed n straw that mud , He just ain't gonna have that !! lololololol...... Oh Me, I had too....lololol.... Have a Great Evening Man !! On too the Next.....
Good evening I've been doing this one or two days myself I found that use bentonite mix it in with the dirt it does the job it'll seal everything up and keep the water where it's supposed to be hope you have a nice evening hopefully this little truck will help you
I have the several leaks on my pond dam. Sure wish you were closer to me, hard to find people that want to mess with a dam in West Georgia. In 25 minutes you fixed the problem. Nice job
Next time your pond gets really low, Get some bags of drilling mud and pack it in really well around the area. We dug our pond too deep and it was leaking from the bottom. We brought in a pallet of drilling mud and just poured it on the water surface. It settled and stopped the leak, and didn't harm our fish.
After watching 100 of letsdig18 videos of trenching, scraping, compacting, clearing, and burning, I thought I pretty much knew it all. But ... the bucket on the excavator is reversible!
I thought of the Blue Crawfish (Crawdad) we had in West Virginia as soon as I saw the leak. They would burrow and bring the ground water to the surface on a bank and create a mess when trying to mow.
I really like that fence! It is so many steps above what I see in most videos online. I'm sure it will be a short video when you change out the overflow pipe as it was a very good "economy build" to begin with. jack
As a contractor (retired) I too did things at my home on a tight budget. Was gonna say something about the dam water leaking around the dam overflow where it went through the dam.
Thanks for that troubleshooting narrative at the beginning and end of the video. That kind of information really adds to my appreciation of what I am watching.
Good diagnosis, plan of attack and temporary cure for the time being, Chris. I gotta hand it to you brother, I like the way you leave things 👍👍 I couldn't have done a better job myself if I tracked it in with my newly upgraded swivel office chair with air ride and cup holder.
Nice Video. That compactor Works great.i hope that the holes in the Mud compacted well enough To hold Up for a while now. But weird that after all those years that pvc piping doesent hold Up To its expectations. Always something To fix.im wondering if you could put a big culvert pipe in there with a Concrete overflow To Stop the leak? 🤔. 💪💪💪Kool Video.
So. Looks like a future Job for...Chris! Nice 18" pipe with one of those metal grates. Maybe a customer will upsell to larger pipe after order and ... well that's how we supply ourselves!
Should have packed bentonite clay around the pipe when it was built . Bentonite may fix it without digging it up - tip it in the pond next to the pipe .
Chris I have the exact same problem New pond only 3 ft deep would your pour concrete around the anti seep collar from the bottom to almost the top of the dam ? That's a cool compactor attachment Wish they had one for my kioti backhoe
You ever been riding passenger in a car going along a cliff or across a tall bridge? That's how I feel watching lol. Everytime I see you moving forward or back, I feel like saying "Ahh you're too close to the edge! You're gonna fall in!" haha but that's what makes it fun to watch also! 25min video = 17 surprises
Funny how a little hole the size of a mole digs through the dirt and drains a major pond. Imagine what a pair of nesting groundhogs can do to a dam. Sorry, I know critters had nothing to do with your leak, Im just thinking out loud.
Great channel. Curious if all the ponds have "yabbies" in them? Yabby being Australia slang for cray fish. Robbie Fishing channel has him using nets in ponds catching a bunch of these. Keep digging!
Im proud for you that you're making more money than you used to. Thats a good sign of success, and I can see from the care you guve to your projects thst you deserve the success. From start to finish I see you taking great care to be satisfued of your work
First time I've ever seen someone find a pipe or anything underground with a trackhoe without ripping the thing in half or crushing it. That's skill there!
I noticed you stealthily cleared the PVC pipe of the dirt that fell into it while you were back-filling and compacting the hole, heh. Good detective work and repair job.
I think you will get a 'test' on you fix with lots of rain coming Wed/Thurs this week. Such is owning property - I am still refixing stuff I did in 2006.
That appears to be the bell end of the pipe at the discharge end. Is it possible that the pipe was laid backwards? I thought water was supposed to flow through the end end first.
It's always the guy who does the work for others and doesn't do it for himself! 👍👍😁 After many days of hard work, the last thing you want to do is more of the same on your stuff for "free"! Keep up the good work Chris.
