This is only my opinion. I believe that as you get older your hair texture changes. The hair texture and probably the strength is not as strong as they once was. Some Men and women go through thinning and balding. Your body changes as you get older. As you get older you have to accept the changes. Once you accept that your body is changing due to age, you can make the best decision that works for you. We all wish that we can remain the same when we were young, but life take it toll. Your locks still looks full and beautiful. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

Hey Monique, I really appreciate this. Age does play a role and it is easy to go down the rabbit hole and forget to show yourself grace. Thank you for your support❤️

@@NyaPlusLife You are welcome. I have my sisterlocks in for one year and the fantasy of my locks looking thick and healthy is almost a wish. I had to come to the realization that I am older and my hair doesn’t grow the way it use to grow. It is not only my hair my body too. Before I could burn fat off in a blink of an eye. Now it is call dieting. Thank you for the videos and showing us your locks journey.

ANSWERS to why locks are falling out, or hair at the scalp is thinning, or spaces are getting wider: Very simple 1) TWISTING: The twisting or retighten of the hair at the scalp. I haven’t seen many people with locks ( of any kind of locks) who don’t have thinning. 2) FREQUENCY: the frequency of twisting and re-tying the hair, 3) FRICTION: the friction of the tool pushing through and then pulling back through the hair POPS the hair WITHIN each lock not just around each lock. If it was AROUND each lock, then the lock wouldn’t fall out, 4) DRYNESS: To my knowledge sister locks can not have much product so therefore the hair is dry which is a big No No when adding friction like pushing and pulling that tool through at the root every 6-8 weeks. 5) DIET: Poor diet such as Sugar and excessive fatty food causes inflammation in The body which can cause lack of blood circulating to the scalp and balding/hair falling out. 6) HEAVINESS/LENGTH: As the hair grows the weight of the hair on each already THINED lock strand is excessive. It’s not the same as having loose long hair. We want long hair but if your hair is fine and low density then you SHOULD keep your locks shorter to prevent excessive weight on each square grid. Keep them cut to just past shoulder length to decrease weight and heaviness pulling on the scalp. The LONGER the lock, the heavier it is. 7) REATTACHING: I don’t recommend Reattaching fallen locks to broken strands as it is only adding more weight and tension on the scalp. I work in healthcare with people who have a had strokes. When that arm is weak or paralyzed it ultimately becomes a heavy like a weight to the shoulder and pulls on muscles/tendons/ligaments resulting in a space called subluxation. This is what happens to each lock as it grows and pulls. 8) LENGTH: once again the longer the hair being pulled through at the retighten appointment the more friction on the scalp hair. For instance, if you are pulling 6 inches of hair through there is less friction than pulling 20 or 30 inches of hair through that tiny space and the more chance of hairs popping at the root. So keep your hair cut to just below shoulder length. Try these suggestions and I pray that you all have healing and new growth.

This isn’t going to be a popular opinion for many with SisterLocks. But here goes! Maintaining a strict grid and 6-8 weeks retie schedule does NOT work for everyone and every hair texture. Especially over time.

I think the hormone fluctuation that women go through as we age is real so that definitely is a factor. In addition to what you are doing I would also consult with a Trichologist. I’m only 2 years into my Sisterlock journey but that’s just what I’d do.

I'm sorry for what you're going through. For the dandruff, I would recommend mixing rosewater and glycerine in a spray bottle 1 part glycerine to 4-5 parts water. It's a Godsend for my sebhorrheic dermatitis whilst having microlocs (which I am currently undoing to restart, long story). It's very soothing, without irritation and doesn't cause build up.

Your video was soooo timely!! My sisterlocs are abt 5 1/2 yrs old almost waist-length, very similar to yours. have not had any loc loss but itching in the left back section...not enough to be irritating... Thought scalp was in need of a wash...then it came back... still didn't register...used tea tree oil and acv on the patch....which proved temporary and would have continued to use until by happenstance came across your vid..and you mentioned dermatologist! It never even crossed my mind until you mentioned it. Just got a topical prescription AND did not know that Black women who previously used relaxers...me...(damn those products to hell) even if it was 10 or 20 yrs ago, could suffer from a type of alopecia years down the road. It starts with itching...not saying that all itching is that, but itching is a sign of some type of inflammation. Dr said the itching could eventually further inflammation which could lead to scaring over the hair follicles which results in permanent hair loss. She said, as you mentioned, most wait too late for intervention. So THANK YOU SIS for sharing, am forever grateful for your lessons 😊❤😊❤❤

Girl I am so glad my story helped and that you got the info you needed. I’m still waiting for my appointment. But it’s crazy about the relaxer isn’t it? So much damage … such long lasting effects. Did he prescribe anything?
@lillarosejeweledhairgems7580
Hey, yes it is...relaxers are dangerous in so many ways. If we knew then what we know now... Found a black female dermatologist...and sisterloc'd for 16 yrs. She prescribed Fluocinonide, a topical steroid, once a day for 2 wks. Then off for a week, then another 2 wks. Am on day five of the first week, and the itching is already subsiding. Follow up in 6 wks. Again, Thank You...I would have never made the dermatologist connection until it was probably too late to correct.

Hey! I had the same dandruff issue. It came about while I was a loose natural out of nowhere! I locked my hair in 2020. I watched a video by Rosedeanor and it helped me understand what was going on with my hair. I stopped using store bought oils altogether and bought the MCT Oil that she talked about. Also, I started using Nizoral Shampoo on my scalp only, rinsed it out and used a clarifying shampoo afterwards. Those 2 things changed my life. It's been since January and I haven't had the dandruff, itchiness and severe flaking anymore. Please search her video here on RU-vid. It saved my scalp.

I commented on another of your videos Nya about the MCT oil. I got the info from Rosedeanor as well and it really helped my dandruff bc like she said the MCT oil doesn't feed the yeast like other oils do. I haven't used any other oils on my hair since the MCT oil. It was a godsend.

I'm new in my loc journey but I aggressively research things out per my natural inquisitive self. Thats what brought me to your video. I've seen a few different women losing locs during their journey. Have you looked into knotted locs? Idk much about it honestly but I've seen it to be a solution lost locs and thinning locs as well.

Your edges look like mine. But it’s been that way my whole life. I had to accept years ago that I have sensitive edges. I know going into my lock journey that the slightest tiniest bit of tension will have my edges running for the hills. Add a little weight or pull on top of that and I won’t have any edges at all. To combat this reaction I plan to massage my edges and use a roller regularly. I will also make sure to keep the weight on the top of my head and away from pulling on my edges. If that means getting obsessed with healthy scalp vs long hair, so be it. I’ve never been obsessed with length although people around me have been obsessed with my hair length.

I love how sisterlocs look but I can't bring myself to get them because I wash my hair every other day. I love frequent washing of the scalp but getting locs doesn't seem to go hand in hand with this. I've had the regular locs before but had to cut them out after a year because of the dandruff issue since I was stuck on the "old way" of washing hair once every 2 weeks.

@StarlessTerrace
@StarlessTerrace 11 месяцев назад
I'm only maybe 2 minutes in but I have a question. How often do you wash your hair? I ask because prior to starting locs myself, I struggled with dandruff also. I was washing my hair once a week and I still had scalp issues. Once I started locs, I started washing my hair twice a week (every 3-4 days) and I no longer have dandruff or scalp issues. I was wondering if perhaps washing your hair more frequently could also help you. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for share IG your experience. By day 7 or so my hair is crying for a wash. It’s funny, I thought of that the other day, but have it ingrained in From when I was young that washing your hair too much (more than 1 per week) will dry it out. It’s worth considering though. Thanks I appreciate the tip! ❤️
