Great video as usual. If in the future the too long sleeves annoy you, consider making a tuck or two on the shoulder seam. This obviously narrows the shoulders and pulls up the sleeves. I've done this with great success on finer fabrics (less so on heavier ones) and if you stitch down the pleats an inch or so, it looks planned and part of the original design. Nothing you've not thought of for yourself I'm sure. I will try anything rather than unpick and basically remake the entire sleeves lol.

Unpicking is the worst!

Whitney, I got so much out of this video! Particularly when you went through analyzing the fit of the dress and explaining what adjustments you'd make and why. The idea that rayon stretches as you wear it wouldn't have occurred to me. Thank you for the education!

Can’t wait to see the finished silk blouse! Your alterations were very helpful (and speedy 😉). Did you enjoy the Lutterloh system? I purchased it back in the 1970’s and realized I didn’t have the courage to actually try it. 🙄. So Carole uses it as well. Thanks for sharing.

I like that you showed how you made the adjustments to your pattern. Those adjustments could come in handy for me since I am 5’ 2”.

Have you considered changing the neckline….V or scoop….on the full length muslin? Large scale necklace would enhance the bodice. There currently is a lot of solid color fabric covering chin to toe and long full sleeves. In the end, you know what is best for how you feel wearing the garment….

I think when I layer it and dress it up it will be just fine!

Hi. I found this interesting. I don't think it made any difference on this style, but the Lutterloh team says that the lengthen and shorten line is the crosshair of the pattern. Using that, control lines (grain, etc.) should align. I'm working on getting the right set of adjustments for this system. I'm 5'2" so I also have to shorten the length. Didn't think about narrow shoulder! I've seen suggested that the HB measurement be used on the shoulder line. I'm still experimenting. 😊 Thanks for posting. Kay in Dallas, Texas

Great muslin, can't wait to see the silk one. I'm having so much fun with the challenge, the blog tour is awesome and very motivating. I'm making the coda jacket with a gorgeous print fabric from Mood. I'm making good progress. 😊

How much seam allowance will you add for the hem on the blouse or will you use bias tape? Thank you for showing your adjustments. It was very helpful.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery День назад
I'm just leaving 1/2" for the hem as I'm going to just do a baby hem on the finished blouse!

Good analysis of getting a good fit! Liked your solution demo very much. When I use Lutterloh I stick to my full bust measurement for plotting as I have broad square shoulders (36 G). I’ve got a long torso but short rise and heavy legs and add seam allowance to the inside crotch curve. Have to watch the necklines too as they don’t always agree with the croquis drawings.

I love this color on you Whitney, I admire you for all of the changes you know how to make. I wanted to do this challenge my fabric is pleather burgundy in color I got from Joann’s. You had the same fabric I forget what you made with it. A skirt would be good to make , I guess.

This dress is great. I am curious why you don't turn it into the blouse, eliminating the back problems and do the dress with that gorgeous print?

I have a Lutterloh system from 2003 that came with a video. He said that the patterns are designed to have the back 1/4 inch longer than the front and that you should use a roller foot and the feed dogs will feed the back seam evenly and not drag it to the front (as you would make your collar 1/8 inch smaller for the under piece). I wonder if a high bust measurement with a full bust adjustment would also work 0:35 and would make the neckline and shoulders fit better. . . .
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery День назад
I think I could have done it with the upper bust measurement and then done an FBA. Either way seems to work and this did feel a bit easier for this particular pattern. If I were doing something more fitted, I think I would have gone with upper bust and done the FBA.

Can you take the sleeves off and just shave 1/2" off the shoulder seam? I wonder if making a slight upper bust adjustment would also help. Looking forward to seeing how your adjustments look on the finished garment.
