Your content is part of what got me to start making my own sequencers instead of wasting money on things that never quite did what I want, endlessly grateful because of that.
Android is a diamond mine, not only for gaming, but music production (thanks to the free and open source nature of the system). A mid range Android phone with a Snapdragon SoC and you're good to go. High range can get a lot of brute force, but is bullshit due to the lack of features and many of them are always trying to resemble more like an iPhone than their own phone.
I had never thought of a a qwerty keyboard as a controller! Thank you for sharing this, you’ve just made my portable setup to use koala that much better ❤
Awesome video! Koala sampler is the best audio thing I have ever spent my money on. Now I only lack that one thing - the musical knowledge. Will you ever make a video or a course on how to actually make music and not just use gear?
Hi Michael! A friend of mine recommended Digitron for Android, it allows you to play with a synthesizer which you can screen record and import into Koala
I have sold ALL of my gear (apart from my trusted iPhone 7📱) to survive while developing my own educational product. This video has brought me hope that I can still make some beats in 2024. 🙂
Well, my smartphone doesn't have audio jack :P Neither in, nor out. Which is silly, I admit... but I chose it for other reasons. However, cheap USB-C audio interfaces are good enough nowadays so not a huge issue. (stop reading here if trying to treat your GAS) OTOH, many of us buy hardware to get away from general purpose computers when making music. I bought the SP-404 mk2 very recently, but so far it looks like the best value for money one can get at the moment, except computers and DAWs. The biggest drawback seems to be the lack of side-chain compression, because there is no good way to emulate it fully without additional hardware and possibly exporting separate tracks. Still, I must say the SP-404 has been my best impulse buy so far. If it had a side-chain compressor and more sophisticated MIDI implementation I would recommend it to everyone who could afford it because it does seem to work quite well for virtually all genres of electronic music, even ambient.
You are a breath of fresh air. You and I have similar sensibilities I appreciate that and you've challenged me to think even deeper. I also use NTS Radio and other great radio stations need to find new music and inspiration
When I record to phone, my keynoard by cable, I get the initial transient befote the signal quockly fades. Will the microphone splitter give me a long, sustained recordong?
I Love Koala Sampler even without a Controller ITS so powerfull even has stems even though the stems are some times a Bit wierd sounding but still a great Sampler
@@playpm Yes, but the Help page doesn't mention all of mappings - like ',' for edit sample or '/' for keybard mode. But I just found out that the newest update lets you import and export these mappings! So you can come up with your own layouts and see what is available.
I can't wait for my dual directional recording cable to arrive. I had the idea of creating a "koalition" of koala samplers across two android devices, but in order to hear both koalas at the same time as record each others output I think a different set of cables will be required. I might already have the splitters needed, but merging the two outputs into a set of headphones might require a mixer. It will be a mess of wires regardless.
I appreciate the constant reminder that the best gear out there is the gear you already have. Just finished purging out all my unused midi controllers and returning the gear that I didn’t vibe with.
It would be hard on your phone, but on an iPad, GrooveRider gr-16 gets dangerously close to the digitakt workflow It's technically closer to an electribe, but with sampler features and parameter locks/automation. Great software and very decent synth engine too.
