My Minimalist Apartment

While moving into my new apartment I came to the realization that I have too much STUFF. There is really no other way to put it…
In just the few short years that I’ve lived on my own, I had acquired enough stuff to fill multiple U-Haul trucks. How was this possible? Why do Americans have so many belongings and are they necessary to feel fulfilled in life?
When I moved into my new apartment in August I wanted to try something new. I made the decision to adopt a way of living known as minimalism. Contrary to what you may have heard, the goal of minimalism is NOT to deprive yourself of materialistic goods, but rather to focus on the items that add value to your life.
In today's society, we find ourselves with duplicate items. How many of us have a cell phone graveyard drawer in our home? What about that old microwave in your basement? Why do we have three coffee pots?
In this video, I will share my story of becoming a minimalist.

I'm so glad I found this video! I am 55 years old and live alone in a two-bedroom house plus a full basement! Just surrounded by stuff! Lots and lots of antiques and hand me downs. I am getting rid of almost everything! I said to myself, if it don't fit in this closet, then I'm getting rid of it! All the dust and the constant cleaning, it's like Non-Stop! It never ends and I'm sick of it! All this week I've been selling lots of stuff on Craigslist, putting stuff by the curb. I don't want to end up on an episode of Hoarders!😩😆

I got rid of about five or six chairs and footstools. I put all of that by the curbside. Some people took all the chairs, but the trashman/garbage man took away the sofa that was beyond repair. I have been donating stop left and right! Everything from, pictures, and tables and tablecloth, curtains and drapes, dishes, knickknacks and bric-a-bracs! Everything has been donated to a thrift store here in town that helps animals with their medical care, like shots spay and neuter programs. Love the perspective. Learning to differentiate between the things that truly hold value in your life and those that don’t is a huge accomplishment for anyone, any age. Every person has a different situation and set of needs. The home atmosphere of a family of 12 will likely be vastly different than that of a single person living in their own home. You’re spot on with the whole concept. Love itttt

Haz Ida how do you know he was “privileged”? Don’t judge a book by its cover. He could’ve grown up poor and just started working/saving at an early age for all you know. My family is far from privileged, but my little brother is 12 yet already has over 1000$ that he earned himself saved because he is lucky enough to have a 27 year old big sister who had to learn a lot of financial lessons/habits the hard way, so I started him super early on about a year ago learning about little hustles he can do and good money management so he can learn the value of a dollar and hard work early on and not have to suffer from the mistakes/materialism that got me over 5k in consumer debt (with no savings) before I even hit my mid 20s. Sometimes, with the help of the internet, kids don’t even need a sibling or parent to teach/guide them early on regarding making/saving money. Doesn’t make them privileged, it makes them mature/smart. This guy could be the result of that kind of early on maturity for all you know. Young or old, not everyone well off was handed their success, despite popular assumption.

A little tip for a better coffee: you put first the coffee ( the amount that you need) in the cup. After that, you pour 30-40ml of hot water ( around 90 degrees Celsius, the water must not be boiled because it will destroy the quality of the coffee grounds) and you stir and let it settle for 5 minutes. After this, you pour the rest of the water to fill the cup and stir one more time. Ready. I learned this trick from a barista...and it changed the quality of my coffee cup. Try it and you'll see. Cheers.
