I am definitely with you on NO Black Friday shopping! I worked in retail for 18 years and always dreaded it...it was always so money driven for the company and also stressful for the employees. Shortly after I left the retail job is when I fully embraced a minimalist lifestyle and I enjoy it immensely !

The 5th definitely reminded me to consider starting to clean up my counters and desks... Always wanted to do that.

Really great tips. I love the 'keeping the counter clear' tip, I recently bought a counter shelf to put all the spice jars and tea products on. That cleared the counter nicely. Makes it so much easier to clean

Buying experiences is a great tip! We buy material items and end up putting them in a closet and forgetting about them, misplacing them or never using them. Experiences will create memories that will last for a lifetime, that to me is priceless!

We had 3 tall file cabinets that were completely full. When we built a very small house we had to figure out how to downsize these. We were shocked that 90% of what we were storing was completely outdated. Think before you keep, and then go through the paperwork every month. We now have one small portable file box.

When it comes to keeping the counters clear, I'm the exact same way. I remember shoving the toaster back into a cabinet after I was done using it. I would've done the same thing with the microwave, but it was simply too bulky and heavy to constantly be moving it, and I used it a lot.

Great content. I totally understand and second your approach. I like it minimalistic, but not as minimalistic as you are. In fact I do like some items around for decoration, things that make sense to me, however I carefully choose like a hand painted picture I bought in Paris instead of multiple plastic crap. I totally agree and feel the same concerning too much clutter, it makes me feel leading a cluttered life. I need things kept up. Also I do prepare my cereal for next day's bfast the night before, because I like to sit down for 5 to 10 minutes at home to start the day not in a hurry, instead of having something to go (which in most cases contains more suggar, fat, artificial flavors, colors etc) I do have the ressources for a new car and a new TV, thankfully no prob for me. But I do not need that so I do not buy it! I do have a flat TV but it's old enough to not be a "Smart" TV, a little extra money for the Apple TV Box made it smart and I saved alot for NOT replacing a working device with something new. Fewer trash also. Personally I like to invest in good food and "experiences" like vacation. I do spend a lot on vacation, because nobody will ever take away the memory and experiences of a vacation, learning about different people, cultures, etc. Experience touches your soul and means personal development. However a new TV does not. Nor does a new car. Also I cannot understand "buying" something for which I do not already have the money. I don't get this credit card attitude either. I either can afford something - or I can't. It's pretty simple. I invest a couple of minutes every week-end suming up my expenses. You can save more than you think AND lead a good life. I do understand that not everybody has the same resources but how about investing into yourself and others instead of wasting time in front of a TV? Think about how to get better instead and get things done step by step. I figured that people often get in trouble because they think "I deserve this" (car or bigger appartment or ... whatever). Start small and work for it and IF you really can afford it - you deserve it. But not before that point. And maybe you will see, your old car still does what it should, your appartment is comfy, the right size and not cluttered and maybe the extra room would be nice but in fact is not REALLY needed. In that case you COULD afford, you WOULD deserve and still don't feel like you NEED anymore! How about that? ;)

excellent advice, i even started doing this, During EID (islamic holiday) I give people ticket to an event/place of visit rather than bunch of blender that gets piled up. I am not sure why there is a need of materialistic gifts. There are many other options such as may be Homemade bath fizzies, or conditioner, or groupon for meal out to a restaurant. LIke options are endless and actually very thoughtful!

The fourth point you've mentioned is almost one of the most important! I don't get how people buy things they can't immediately pay off (if it's something you really need like a washing machine I understand that, but the newest phone?). That just makes me crazy

Only thing you need to buy is a big roll of heavy duty garbage bags and fill them with most of the stuff in your house. That is the best advice toward starting to be a minimalist...

Black Friday is only good if you've been intending to buy a product for months in advance and know its price well. Then a deal comes up for that product or something comparable, and I really don't think there is an issue if you can afford to buy 10 of those items. I got a robot vacuum for 200 and pixel 3a for 300 bucks, and I'm happy with these purchases :)
