What can I say? I pulled the trigger on what I thought would be a 2022 purchase, mostly because it became available (used) on Reverb, but also because I couldn't wait to get my hands on this beautiful monster - the ACL Sinfonion harmonic CV generator.
Between my 2 main goals of prog and ambient, this was a must-have for programming note/chord progressions (along with sequencers) for those moments when I want an actual "song" playing, and not just random bliss. Check this out, episode 20 is a long one, with a fun little E minor jam at the end!

Wow that sounds awesome with it all together, just started going down the modular rabbit hole myself. This vid does not help with the G.A.S. lol!

nice walkthrough! Are you still happy with the sinfonion after about half a year in? Mine is about to arrive, and after a year or so of waiting I am not really sure if its really worth it.

I am very happy with Sinfonion. The main thing we see demos for is how to use it to quantize, make chords, arps and patterns... but also think of it as "just voltage", turning off quantization, and interesting sonic opportunities start to emerge. It is an amazing instrument. I think you will not be disappointed.

Oh no, I hope ACL hasn't gone away! I'll put a copy of the Sinfonion manual on my website here: visionsmusicgroup.com/webdata/downloads/ Let me know if you have trouble downloading from there, and thank you for watching!

“I hope you live for a thousand years” LOL. So there’s one used right now..I already have owned a Five12 Vector for a few years and it and the expander are about the same price, and put a gate and velocity with each channel, really amazing. I’ve always just owned sequencers, not quantizers. Don’t you still need a completely different source for gates for all the voices, how do you do that and have it align?
@VisionsMusicGroup
@VisionsMusicGroup 2 года назад
Sinfonion offers something called "autogates" (7.2 in the manual) whenever a new semitone is quantized, a gate can be triggered. You would use the OUT 1 and 2 to map this functionality. You would otherwise need gate sources from elsewhere. I do not consider Sinfonion a "sequencer" more than a CV harmonizer/quantizer. Keep in mind I'm still a noob, so I could be missing something :-)
@NickHchaos

@@VisionsMusicGroup yeah, I’m not a noob, but good point. More complimentary to a good sequencer, but not a replacement. One is really excellent for live improv and play, one more excellent for really complex and interwoven compositions, perhaps. I thought there were also 2 gate outs for the chord part? How does that work?
@VisionsMusicGroup
@VisionsMusicGroup 2 года назад
@@NickHchaos You may be referring to the Gate jacks and buttons? If so, I believe that's a way to manually hold open "a gate", whatever that may be, with the button press/hold. Beyond that, I'm unsure. I haven't used Sinfonion beyond the steps/sequences/songs progression yet.

@@VisionsMusicGroup to the right of Chords, there’s Gates 1 and 2?

@@NickHchaos Them's the ones. Never used them myself, but that's what the manual says they're for.

Which module do you use for chord (red cable)?
@VisionsMusicGroup
@VisionsMusicGroup Год назад
Beneath the pile of wires in the bottom row, almost center is a Chainsaw oscillator; it takes 3 x 1v/oct inputs, so a triad. Out of Sinfonion Chord 1, 2, and 3 to Chainsaw.
