So the joke with Pappug being able to talk is entirely based on a stupid pun. Hitode is the Japanese word for starfish and hito is human. When we first meet him he sings a song that's a philosophical piece on the differences between humans and starfish while being one massive dumb pun
I'm Irish, and while I'm not from the North and thus avoided the Troubles, this arc still hit for me in a way it doesn't seem to have for many. The core theme of inherited hatred made perfect sense to me because we have hundreds of Hodys of our own; young men who grow up hearing lionized tales of glorious rebel martyrs and historic grievances kept perpetually alive through song and story. People being bitter enemies purely because their groups have an ancient feud that nobody will let go of, etc. It's tragic. A friend of mine worked in Belfast for a while and he said that his workplace would issue him a fake nametag with a "Protestant" name so that the local youths wouldn't go after him for having a "Catholic" name.
I hope y’all like the new editing stuffs! I found out new ways to have fun with videos and such thanks to the cap-cut updates! :3 PART 2 IS EVEN MORE FUN!
16:21 Nami refers to Luffy, Zoro and Sanji as the "怪物三人組" (Kaibutsu San'nin Gumi - Monster Trio) in Thriller Bark at least, so it is technically a canon term, just only used once iirc.
Fishman Island isn't as fantastical as Skypiea because of gentrification. For centuries the humans have used Fishman Island as a way to pass the Redline. While Skypiea rarely sees people from the Blue Sea
@@critica77y77gentrification is the effect of wealthy and privileged individuals using their power to change local communities that they interact with into something more familiar to them (pushing out the poors and replacing the buildings with overpriced luxury apartments and a Starbucks) Why do you think so much of Fishman Island is open air despite its residents not needing air to breathe with many being effectively handicapped when moving on dry land.
@JohnBrown-tw2qi That seems to me to be less ‘gentrification’ and more ‘having an active tourism industry.’ If you have a lot of tourists coming in, you cater to them enough to make a profit off of it. That’s not gentrification, that’s good business.
My personal belief around guard point and all of choppers forms ,is that during the time skip he learned life return. He doesn’t understand the ability as life return. His forms are very similar to what lucci was doing in Ennis lobby. I also believe that all zoans could use life return in a similar way.
my prediction is very simple. fishman island is directly below marijois. marijois is situated right at a crossroads between the 6 seas. luffys is somehow going to annihalate marijois such that blows a giant hole in the red line, destroying fishman, but also creating the all blue. (the seventh sea! of course!)
This arc is one of my favorites. I want more from the location, but the emotional beats were what I loved about it. Otohime is an incredibly underrated character.
I think Usopp may have a natural undeveloped talent for fortune telling. Now that we know looking into the future is a real skill with Madam Shyarly this may explain how many of Usopp's lies/stories later actually happen. Maybe when he is using his imagination to make up a story he unconsciously accesses future events that bleed into his stories.
29:48 they say that he is her pet (camy &star fish) but nami says that their relationship is more like friends and camy face was puzzled because friendship between different classes was not that common in fishman island in its history. They all knew and had a level of respect for each other but on Fishmen Island they historically never had friendship between them or family connection like you would let’s say on (SPOILER *Zou*)
I hope my illustrated animal fantasy series I am writing can be anywhere near a thousandth as cool as One Piece. I would want someone to get this excited and in depth about analyzing it, but I know I don't write like Oda. He truly is the GOAT of writing. This video series is so fun.
Straw hat crew is mirroring Roger’s and/or Shanks’ crew by accident kinda. (For them it’s an accident not for us.) Rayleigh was first mate and has an eye scar, Zoro has an eye scar and is first mate. A bunch of it is fairly 1 to 1. So if no patch for Rayleigh no patch for Zoro. Im on team no eyepatch for Zoro.
Luffy "turning part of his arm black" is merely a VISUAL representation of Haki, to let us readers know Luffy is using it. Evidence of this is the fact NOBODY comments on Luffy's arm "changing color".
A couple notes on pronunciation, in case it's of interest for Mama Drawk in the future: Ryugyu is pronounced with a hard G, rather than a soft J. This is a consistent thing with Japanese, G is always a hard G. The word is also syllabled Ryu-gyu, rather than Ry-ugyu. Think of "pew-pew" and replace the start sounds of each. Hoe the whale's name comes from hoeeru, the Japanese word for whale. The pronunciation is a bit awkward to explain with English, but for an attempt: The sound for the O is just the first half of the vowel sound in the English reading of hoe (which to my natively-speaks-a-phonetic-language-that-sounds-similar-to-Japanese ear is more of a "hou" - so just drop out the latter half) or a bit like the sound in "hop", and the sound for the E is like in "head" (which to my ear is just "hed").
@@gabrilapin goodness me! You shoulda seen what I cut out. She went on for 20 minutes!! [ I’m autistic, I apologize if I took your comment literally! It’s hard sometimes for me to tell jokes! ]
Remind me to never, and I mean NEVER get on Mama Drawk's bad side. Like for sure Vander Decken deserves that treatment but boy and howdy did I not expect that description
I feel like it makes sense for Fishman Island to be a little bit disappointing. If it was this amazing paradise the want to go to the surface wouldn't make sense
One piece of history we know from before the void century is the planting of the tree of knowledge in Ohara 5000 years ago. There's a few other bits and pieces like Alabasta's history, but yeah
I was looking forward to this. I usually learn stuff that I missed the first 15 times through (I watch a lot of reactions). As for Vander Decken, I would be very happy if Oda would _confirm_ that he no longer exists and that it was very painful. Re: Jinbe/Luffy blood transfusion Dr. Charles Drew didn't die as a result of a needed transfusion, but he was the medical director of the Red Cross blood bank. At the time, the Red Cross segregated blood donation by race. They also had a campaign to collect blood for servicemen serving in WWII, but would not accept blood from Black people. Not even on a segregated basis. The last state to end blood segregation was Louisiana in 1972. That's in my lifetime. Wasn't that long ago.
Oh my god Mama drawk knows Tyger tyger burning bright in the forests of the night! Of course she knows it. She's well read of course she knows the poem.
29:08-29:58 they talk about and explain all of this in literally their first proper appearance outside of a cover story. Sure most of it is played for laughs but it is explained.
How about for the mega arcs, instead of one giant art piece that takes 5 episodes, you take one scene for the art from that episode and all 5 art pieces combine into a final product?
So you know how in cartoons pets can be just like normal people but still pets? Like especially in Family Guy how the dog wrote several novels and in the comic strip Dilbert one of the ceos of their company is a kitty named Catbert
I thought Mama Drawk would talk about the fake strawhats, kinda dissapointed she didn't. I'm loving this art, is one of my favorites if not my favorite! I'm looking foward to the next part for Fisher Tiger and Koala's story!
I know it doesn't count and is a literal anime only filler arc, but you should really have your mom watch the arc with the millennial dragons, I just want her to react to grandpa ryu 🥺
I started watching the live streams cuz I'm addicted to listening to Mama Drawk theorize, but I still put the videos on when I'm sleeping, usually ill keep listening when I wake up and start getting ready, but even have heard the conversation already, I still can't get enough of listening to her talk and get excited to hear more of her thoughts on the arc.
Humble suggestion: for the big mega arcs you could try doing a single piece that is made up of however many different parts you plan to do. I don't know how you'd do this outside of a manga panel style thing but.... it could be cool?
Fish men take the forms of different types of sea life and to varying extents; some look more human than others. In the case of the Star Fish, he is almost entirely a star fish and is a fish man.
Fishman Island "Generic" looking. Ive actually never heard someone say that about the setting, I feel like its a top 3 setting in one piece, odas art definitely stepped up.
speaking of bonney crying, i remember reading a comment way back claiming that bonney had a brother who was killed by a celestial dragon that's why she saved zoro and the marineford scene reminded her of her brother's death, there was no evidence anywhere to suggest it true but somehow i believed it anyway
@@CricketBonez I completely understand that. I see there’s is a vods channel but I don’t know if it’s official or not and it’s further behind than even these I would take unedited vods
Fishman Island I think is defo One Piece's worst arc but I always felt that it was a good way to reintroduce everyone and their new power levels and such. The arcs after this are just hit after hit so I don't mind it so much !
Nah, if Ace had had a kid, it would've been with his (not actually romantic in canon) boyfriend. But he was in a pretty bad place, so I doubt he would have wanted a kid.
I really like the videos and want to watch the streams but I can't find the vods between here and mid way through dressarona, do they exist somewhere I can watch them to catch up, because I really want to watch the streans live but i don't want to skip anything
