I would almost say you should LOSE a point for calling "Link" "Zelda." We don't wanna reward people for getting that wrong or we'll never get away from that 😜
I love how she'd recognise them from Sung Won's childhood. That's a mother that watched a little man play video games all the time to grow up to be in them
It's clever marketing for nintendo to make the characters look neotonous, that makes them psychologically and instinctually more recognizable and memorable by moms of children
It was honestly kinda funny towards the end how done she was with the increasingly bizarre names with the very normal “Terry” and “Steve” just in the mix
I honestly can’t even blame her guessing regular names for most of them, because the few times she tries more fictional or epic sounding names like “Samson” or “Rattle Dragon” the characters ended up being fucking Simon and Ridley.
I honestly don't know why Nintendo didn't call Link Zelda. Every Zelda game has the word "Zelda" and a picture of Link on the cover so of course anyone unfamiliar with the games would automatically assume that's a picture of the main character on the cover and his name is Zelda. I don't blame her one bit, this one's on Nintendo
@@TheChimples It's because in the first games, at least, the plot centers around a *legend* regarding the lineage of Hylian princesses, who are all traditionally named Zelda. Link's quest was to fulfill the legend of Zelda to defeat evil. I agree, from a marketing viewpoint it's confusing as heck, but I still think the title is justified.
Right, like my mum is asian and when she tries to pronounce marth it always sounds like moss xD i tried to do this for my mum, and told her for sephiroth hies name starts with an S cause I know it’s impossible to guess and she said seraph xD after watching me playing ffvii all so many years haha….
Agreed. My mom would probably know a few of these, but not a lot of them. She doesn't play a lot of games unless they're Mario Kart, Mario Party, and the Wii series. She does like Pikachu, Pichu, and Yoshi at the very least, so I'll give her that.
It must be really frustrating to guess based on the 1st letter because it's 50/50 on whether it'll be a normal name like Isabelle/Lucas/Ken/Daisy or some fantasy-ass thing like Palutina/Sepharoth/Mythra
Your mother is so sweet. You can tell she actively tries to take an interest in what you are into by how much of it she recognizes, even if she can't name them all and get's tired 30 minutes into the inquisition. Amazing, wholesome content.
Haha I imagine it has to do with being forced to guess characters you've never seen being called ridiculous fantasy things like "Sephiroth" or "Ganondorf"
@@stars4809 I mean, Sephiroth is at least based on a term from Religion, Sefirot. Ganondorf is genuinely the most "Crazy Bozo Evil Dude" name of all time.
@@sewpungyow5154 My thoughts as well! I have elderly family members and parents who aren't as much into most anime, video games, and movies/tv shows as I do, but can at least recognize a few from conversations with me and advertising. Pokemon and most Nintendo characters, imo, has some of the easiest characters to recognize since some of the most famous ones are marketed a lot (Mario and Pikachu being synonymous with Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny for most people).
You're one of the only creators to do this type of video that I like because it feels like both you and your mom are just having fun rather than someone sitting their confused parent down at gunpoint trying to go viral
There's something so distinct about certain facial expressions they both make that is so similar and just instantly places them as family. I love how those little things transcend physical likeness :)
Listen, I have to give it to her: - Jigglypig is just SO GOOD - Piky makes a ton of sense - Ganondorf did, in fact, pretend to be God - Chaelemanjo and Charbisaur are both incredibly on-point - Lucas and Lucario start with the same first four letters! - ROB does, in fact, start with "Robot" (the "R" stands for "Robot(ic)") - Pikman is perfect - look, Ricky is clearly just Richter's nickname - "not Isadora" is SO CLOSE - okay so 13:42! Obviously that is piranha plant, however! Pete(y) Piranha is the most famous of that snap-toothed people! - Mindy is remarkably close to Min-Min! Also, every time she called Link "Zelda" she was just living out the 80s and early 90s common presumption. I mean, that's, like, half-credit right there. Her joy at getting Diddy Kong and Wii Trainer was just perfection. Honestly, these was great, and I absolutely loved all of her answers. So many were so good, not just the ones that were close! Thank you and God bless you all for this!
This is the most pure and wholesome thing I’ve seen in ages. She genuinely recognizes a lot of those things even if she didn’t know the name And every time she went “ aw so cute” my heart just melts
@@sherbertshortkake6649 Every other instance of Marth (like Albert Marth) I know of is written "Maruto" not "Marusu" in katakana. Also his internal filename in plenty of the olderish games (SSB Melee, the DS Fire Emblem remakes, etc.) is "Mars" meaning that's probably what the Japanese devs considered him to be named before the English localization name was established. Melee is particularly important as that game is the first time he is called Marth.
Based on things like “Lucas” for Dark Samus, and the fact that I’m p sure he’s done this with her a couple times before, she might actually just be remembering them from previous videos / SW mentioning them b4
She called Marth and Ike handsome, she has a type🤣 Impressive! All my mom would know is Pikachu, LOL. Your mom's precious and it's wonderful how she engages with you.
It's scary how SungWon's mom *vaguely* gets close to the answers in some names. Lucina - Lucy Pit - Peter Duck Hunt - Duck Hunting Ken - Kevin (which is also the Ken's name in the japanese version of Street Fighter 2010 for the NES lol) Isabelle - Isadora Min Min - Mindy Roy - Robin
not rly scary but just goes to show she listens to her son when he shares his special interests. even if she cant remember fully, she still remembers enough and its heartwarming.
@@theAstarrr THANK YOU. Clicked the first one, massive disappointment, read your comment, massive enjoyment. Also, I *believe* he mentioned wanting to ask his mom to name the smash bros characters in his "my top favorite skits" or something like that.
That's probably because she's thinking "oh, he talked about that one so often, I should really know". Shows how much it means to her to be connected to him over his interests. It's really great. My mom was the same when I was a kid and pestered her with naming my action figures.
I love how like, half of all the names SungWon's mom gives the characters sound like nicknames the characters' friends use. "Ricky" for Ricktor, "Bonnie" for Bayonetta, "Samson" for Simon, using "Muscle Man" for all the strong characters. I thought MomZD might not know these characters, but she definitely knows them better than me if she knows their nicknames like that. Kudos, SungWon's mom.
@@simpleton7 just bc most people do something doesn’t make it reasonable. I don’t see how doing what they did in the video should cause them to get upset.
