Is it expensive to live in Taiwan? Today I cover my monthly living expenses essentials like rent to expenses like drinks and entertainment and reveal how much I spend each month in Taiwan.
Most expenses are pretty normal but my food expenses are definitely more expensive than usual. Still, my monthly expenses of life in Taiwan are much cheaper than my life back in the USA. If you're curious about living in Taiwan as a foreigner and expat, this is the video for you!

Just found your channel and it's been super super helpful! I'm busy finishing up a 4 year music degree and am planning on starting the job searching/moving process as soon as I graduate. But her rent is for Kaohsiung. I think in Taipei City there are areas which can get pretty expensive as in other major world cities

@@Plasma1iTV I know, I mean based off of my own searches, you can get some gorgeous studios for like 17k, and some really nice rooms in really nice shared apartments for like 10 to 12k

That was a clear breakdown about monthly expenses. When you say you have a total of NTD $1,000 for monthly transportation expenses, do you mean you have monthly pass for that amount, and you can have unlimited access to MRT and bus? If that's true, that would be definitely a great deal.

No I just pay as I go -- and that's an over estimate by a lot really. Now that I'm staying at home, I'm spending maybe $200 a month

Hey Matt! So I work with Nas Academy and manage the trainers there which I'm super grateful to have and I got through my connections with people that already work in the company. That's awesome you have an open work permit -- although online work from other countries is fine to do without a work permit as long as its not a Taiwan company.

I think foreign English teachers make NT$600+ an hour so I’d guess the range would be between NT$40-60k a month. But she mentioned in the video she’s freelancing now, so might be quite a bit different.

Yeah it depends each month as I work for an online company and do different jobs, but usually I'm earning between $1.5-2.5 K in USD so I save quite well 😄

Kayla, How is the pollution level in K city? I am considering moving back to Taiwan after 40+ years in the US. But I am just a bit sensitive to pollution.

I'm not too sure...I've been inside a lot recently since we're under soft lockdown and I'm guessing now it would be worse because it's so hot but I'm inside a lot. I wouldn't say the air is fresh though.

Ha ,Ha I must to say, the NT$26000 pre month is high leave live in Taiwan, let you know at Taiwan yung mans ( girls) base salary is NT$ 26000 ~ 30000 for month, Taiwan should be save 30present to bank to prevention emergency situation. So you great live in Taiwan.

I think 30% is a rule for almost everyone! But it's definitely hard to do on a small salary. I'm lucky to give pretty well here 😄

Do you mind telling me about 高雄用閩南語(台語)的機率跟在金門對比? I know that in KH I tend to use mandarin a bit less frequently than when I'm in Taipei. 台語 is more commonly used in 高雄。 I prefer the food in KH over the food in Taipei as far as night market food. I will take 瑞豐夜市 over 四林夜市 any day of the week, twice on sundays.... The water quality in 高雄 leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry NYC tap water spoiled me. Hopefully 中華民國政府 ends the quarantine requirements I will book a flight to Taiwan.

One essential thing for me is going to “hair washing”. Which ranges $7-$10-. If you find a good hair shop, neck and head massage are included. Well worth the dollars. Stay safe. Cheers from Dallas, Texas.

What about riding U bike to save that 1 dollar for subway because the first 30 minutes is free.

Not always, I rode Ubike the other day for like 10 minutes and it charged me $5 -- not sure why but no big deal.

I spend almost all your monthly expense on my rent here in Taipei(although I do live in a higher living cost area-I could pay less in another district). Why'd you choose Kaohsiung if you work remotely?

Well, I don't know how it will be post covid since we are now dealing with it but when our borders open again you would definitely be able to live a few months here

Awesome! So you can get a job after but you'll probably need to know Chinese well. Sadly starting salaries are not very high -- even I made more money teaching English than my international friends in more "respected" lines of work coming out of uni. But if you get work then you will have residency

It depends on my work in the month, but usually I can save $300 USD or more a month. I got a remote job while teaching English and have an ARC extension, so I'm very lucky to be in this position at the moment.

@@KaylaCosmos many counties of south Taiwan are looking for native English speaking teachers, you may try to land one. Local governments are trying to hire some for their local public schools.

@@muubie Accommodations, food and some treats are much expensive. However, transportation and electricity are the same. I’d say 50% more is quite accurate.

@@stevenhuang475 yea, I wasn’t asking if it was free but more so if everyone is allowed to join (and pay for) National health insurance. NT$1000 a month is darn cheap for health insurance.

Dang Steven, what a sassy response lol. It depends on your status. If you get an ARC (residency card) then you are required to get on the National Health Insurance. But if not you would want to stick with a private plan or international one. Even paying for treatments without a local Insurance is usually quite cheap.
