Hi Leah, Not sure if I'm sending this too late, but hoping you might see it (and if not might repost on a newer video :)). Have you thought of doing (or have done) a video on how you are investing while teaching abroad? I want to teach abroad and one of the things I want to plan for is how to continue to invest for my retirement. You mention sending $$ home for your future and it'd be awesome to learn from your experience. Don't worry I know that this won't constitute you giving financial advice, but I'd love to learn more. Thanks for sharing about your life!! It keeps me excited about planning for my own adventure abroad.

@ic I am so sorry I'm late getting back to you!! I literally and JUST seeing your comment. I am extremely ignorant when it comes to investing as my start was late in the game. I did a ton of research, read books, and we have an adviser with Schwab who literally talked to us like kindergartners until we got caught on up on what we are doing. I am happy to put a video together (or we can exchange via email)! Let me know!

Hi Leah, I came across your videos yesterday and love them. I'm an American, but have been living and working in Arusha, Tanzania since 1996. I'm studying Mandarin online and have a conversation once a week with a friend in Taiwan who I met through a program called iTalki. One of my dreams is to spend part of the year living in Taiwan. Due to the covid restrictions, I've had to be patient about making those travel arrangements. Yesterday, I was trying to find out as much as I could about the current travel restrictions and requirements, and that's when I stumbled upon your videos. My thinking for the first visit is to stay for one month and either rent a very simple apartment, stay in a hostel, or stay with a host family. I am also a major introvert, but I'm not afraid to talk with people in order to work on my Mandarin. I see myself studying vocabulary on my own, possibly hiring a personal tutor for regular lessons, taking a tai chi class, walking to the market and restaurants, listening to people talk, and working as much as possible on my conversation skills. If you could, please let me know the current requirements for travel to Taiwan. Also, because I run a small business in Tanzania, I will need to have access to things like gmail, Skype, WhatsApp, and online banking. I have been to mainland China twice and know that access to those communications is either very complicated or not possible. I know the situation in Taiwan is much different, but please let me know. I will stay in touch and definitely keep on following you and Justin. Enjoy the week!

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to live alone & save. I'm not a party person but like to go places every now and then. However, I'm looking at the big pic. I'd like to retire early. I would like to purchase some rental properties in the states, especially for Air B&B's. Your videos are very helpful.

I'm so glad this could help and best of luck with your goals. I want to retire early too!! And own property too!! There are SO many helpful channels I've found in IG about owning property. Have you made any moves towards your goals just yet?

Hi Leah. Love your authentic videos. I'm moving to Tainan in July 2022. Can you make a video on banking in Taiwan for foreigners please
@LeahLivesAbroad

Hello! Banking in Taiwan is sooooooooo hit or miss and unfortunately does not have consistent customer service when it comes to foreigners. Is there anything in particular you'd like to know that I could help out with?

Are you able to add all of these expenses to your budget?

@@lifeabroadwithnoxy We really liked Taipei when we first visited but just the amount of money we save by living in the southern part made a huge difference for us. Retirement is ALWAYS on my radar. hahahaha~!

Hi Leah, nice video.... i have a question.... Do you consider the Taiwanese minimun wage, which is around 25k Ntd a month enough to live comfortable, but without having the opportunity to save money??? Just to cover that daily basis like food, rent and stuff like that
@LeahLivesAbroad
@LeahLivesAbroad 2 года назад
Hi Jorge!! Thanks for your question. 25k is a relatively low salary for larger cities like Taipei but may be doable in southern cities. Your lifestyle will determine how much you are able to save. For example, my previous studio apartment in Tainan was 11K a month but you always get a room mate, rent a room, or live in dormitory housing for as little as 5k month. Other determining factors are if getting a motor bike versus public transportation, do you like to go out often or do you prefer cooking at home, and if you'd like to travel regularly while you are in Taiwan. Lots of choices! Saving money will be dependent on what your financial goals are. Hope this helps.

Leah, are you still teaching in Tainan? I may be teaching there as well soon. I really like your videos. You are mature and wise beyond your years. May I contact you through FaceBook for advice?
