I am from Iceland. and Egill Skallagrímsson (the viking who wrote the original poem) is actually one of my ancestors. Although I can't help butt feel like something is missing in the translation to english, I'll be damned if this isn't the most beautiful version I have ever heard of this song! Thank you very much!

@@obcl8569 It is not really THAT impressive. In ages past Iceland had a small population, usually didn't go far above 50.000 people. I usually do not need to go more than 6 or 7 generations back to find a connection to any of my friends, for example. So when the person in question is from about a thousand years ago, I would not be surprised if more than half the nation can trace their lineage back to Egill (who we all learn about in school, so he would be a popular example).

My mother told me has always been something I enjoy listening to, then I hear this and I remember why I listen to it. It transports you to a different world, one where Vikings exist, one where we don’t have to worry about taxes but rather what will be for supper, we live in such a different world and I wonder what it would be like to back and live a day like a Viking.

The Vikings came to Ireland and settled taking Irish women as wives. MY last name is Odom and as you go back as the name has changed when the enlgish invaded ireland and scotland Oldmam-Oldom-Odinsplace were given to those as last names. Going back in geneoligy and DNA from my Greatx3 Grandparents before the moved to the Americas
