My Motorcycle can't shift up or down anymore. Is the problem a bent shift lever?

Hi all, I am a brand new rider and got a 2002 Kawasaki ninja 250r that I've ridden for one week. It runs fine (after needing an impossibly long warm up every morning, like 5-10 mins minimum). Anyway, today I thought that the gear lever felt strange. I was able to get up to the second gear and it got stuck. Even though I can move the gear lever up or down, and it even clicks, but it can't shift anymore (doesn't make the almost clunking sound of shifting). When I force the gear lever down with my foot, it actually gets stuck on the bolt that holds the kick stand in place, which it has never done before. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

when you go up and it stops roll the back wheel forward then go up a gear again sometimes the gears dont line up unless you roll forward

my bike is doing the same thing but it is shifting but want spring back down it will just sit there

Gear shift lever has seized there is washers that have rusted take foot peg lever off

I read on the internet that this is a common problem and this motorcycles but unfortunately there's not many videos and nobody say nothing in the specifics

I think u might just have to take that rear-set out. Take a look, and order a new shifter. Sometimes trying to bend the gear shifter back in position can make things worse( I was told) not a Pro/mechanic here. Some research & a lil work I’m sure this can be fixed. Peace n blessings.

Just happened to me after I crashed on the shifter. You have to pull the shifter a bit outside cause mine got jammed.

Same happened to me on my 13 Forty eight. laid it down from someone else at fault and slid on shifting side bent gear foot beg select all up and now wont shift. Sucks

I have problem with my 2003 going from 4 gear to 5 I don't know how expensive this will be any idea.? Still shifting but somthing don't and one time switch from 5 to 4 and I thought that transmission was going to blow out because it sounds horrible

It just looks like its rubbing with the bike off it will only go into first and second aswell as neutral if the lever isnt rubbing but anything past second bike should b on n clutch depressed

I dropped it and it got bent. I had to take it to the shop to get it straightened out

No I see the issue it's a quick fix.Happened to me in the summer of 96 .I was on a date and after dinner we got on the bike and it wasn't even going into first, reverse anything. So my date shara said I can fix this and she got down on her knees and I didn't see exactly what she did but when her head popped up and said ok fixed let's go. So that's it so easy.Ok so hang on let me get you her number.

I'm kidding you bro.its most likely a lack of maintenance. If you tweaked your shifter straighten it back. But make sure that you lube the shifter going to the motor and check the fluids.also check your clutch action make sure it's doing its job.Charge your battery, Sometimes pulling in the clutch and it's not engaging ,had an issue with the neutral switch and it drove me crazy.
