"Alright sooo. The way this works is this shift mechanism- oh my goodness." I could not not stop laughing at that. That shift drum was moving like the loose tooth on a kid in the candy shop. Lol
I’m new to crotch rockets but I’ve been riding tons of upright bikes like my crf250l and fz09 and tons of dirtbikes and quads since I was little so I know how to bang gears but this 600 I’ve got is the oldest bike I’ve owned 1996(older than me) and my dad and I together put Maby 200 miles on it and it came with 4900 but was sitting for years so it’s just now working had brake issues and carbs were dirty as hell so it’s been a work In progress. When I’m banging gears ripping it the 1st yo second is clunky but doesn’t affect speed that much. When I downshift like coming up to a stoplight or something just clutch pulled in going down to first rolling freely it grinds the tooth( I can hear it and feel it) and I’m kind of worried. Granted my standards are high because my oldest bike is a 2017 so I might be a picky fucker but is this something that needs to be fixed or that would be dangerous. Neither me or my dad care about the bike and it’s for sale but I don’t want to fucking die when the tranny explodes while I’m riding down the street.
I have a 2018 Versys 650 that is very difficult to shift, like if something is preventing the linkage movement, I heard the linkage is connected to the foot pegs and that can create some problems. Have you dealt with anything like this before? It takes a lot of pressure on my foot to shift. Coming to stop sign and trying to quickly down shift it takes a lot of effort.
Hello I have problems also with my zx10r 2008. The thing is everytime I shift up to 6th gear my bike just revving and the gear indicator just starts to randomly change to any numbers or neutral but I could still down gear back to 5,4,3,n,1 it just fine.. and right there I dont know whats the problem I'm assuming its the clutch but when I watch your video, it might be also the shiffting mechanism.
How did you get the plastic cover off of that? Mine has a recessed bolt that I can’t seem to get out. I can’t get the right size socket into the hole it’s in
Pretty much the only vid on that part of the bike I could find , seams like a tight space on the Vulcan 500 to get the shift cover off , should I take the engine off the frame to get access , any ideas ? Thanks
hey… i have ninja 300 few days im noticing when i decelerate bike im get clucking noise from front end and near bottom area of engine … but bike has 7k kilometres done and chain setting is within the spec and company is unable to identify… and theres no noise of chain whatsoever… im confused what it could be any idea?
Hey I have Kawasaki 2003 636cc every gear work perfect, but 3rd gear doesn’t work. It will downshift and upshift into 3rd but bike wont work in 3rd gear. What could be the issue?
Unfortunately tightening the screw and reassembly revealed that the bike did have a shifting and transmission problem. It may well have been caused by the loose shift drum.
unfortunately the bike needed a transmission repair, it sustained collateral damage to the shift forks. I have found loose bolts on a lot of kawi transmission shifter mechanisms that caused problems that were solved by properly torqueing bolts.
Hi. Riding a 08 ninja 650. Cleaned up the front and read sprocket. Not going as far into the gear shift mech as this. After putting it all back together. Some how my shifter when all loose and it requires a manual reset before the next shift. So assuming the reset spring is off but there was no work done further than removing the front sprocket cover, neutral sensor and speed sensor along with its bracket. Any ideas of what could have happened. Thanks
Take it back apart as far as you did and look to see if you didn't assemble correctly. Refer to your Factory Kawasaki service manual for the correct order.
hi i just buy a ninja 650 2019 and it seems that i have the some problem can you please tell me if the problem was when he shift to the scend gear is jump to NATRUAL ? also it feels the shift mechanism is moving more then normal I HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU , thank you
The bike wouldn't shift at all, the shifter was just loose and sloppy. I think it was stuck in one gear from what I remember. I've worked on thousands of bikes since I took this video
yes mine is stock on first gear and go right to neutral and it feels loose a little bit where are you located maybe i can bring you the bike ? thank you for replying to my message
I got a 2006 kawasaki Ninja ZX6R and it pops outta 2nd gear any ideas on what it could be it's green like this 1 too if that screw is lose on mine will that make that happen or no thanks in advance
If your bike is popping out of second gear back into neutral then that would most likely be bent shift forks not properly engaging the gears together. Normally a shift mechanism issue would give you problem in all of the gears.
ALI SHAH I assume you are riding and the transmission is turning. If you are still, Kawasaki trans will not shift into second gear out of neutral. If you are riding then it is possibly a shift mechanism problem such as what you see in this video. After I tighten the assembly and reassembled this one, it had a shifting problem that ultimately led to a transmission repair inside the cases.
My dad just bought a zr1400 ninja, 12,000 miles. Said it has trouble shifting into first from neutral . Any ideas, something similar perhaps ? Any info would be helpful , please and thank you
assuming you are talking about a USA spec ZX14 I would start by bleeding the fluid on the hydraulic clutch, do not use ( dont use dot 5 ) if it has an aftermarket (not oem kawasaki lever) that can cause problems. could be warped clutch plates causing to clutch to drag , if you are running synthetic oil, kawasakis seem to not tolerate this oil. if so, heat the bike up and change the oil, this may help, it may not, you may have to replace the clutches( use oem or EBC,, no other brands are good.) use standard motorcycle oil with a minimum of JASO MA rating. i have seen countless shifting issues arise after the use of synthetic oils, this is a controversial hot topic that many people seem to not agree on. hope this helps.
Loose connections or... load test new battery. Even though new, could still be bad. Seen countless new batteries off the shelf bad because they werent periodically charged.
So my shifter won’t go to 2nd and up it only goes to 1st and netrual do you think this could be the problem with mine, because it was shifting perfectly fine and out of no were it started it
I’m having same problem shifts 1st and 2nd but ether won’t shift up or it will but only when it wants to just started last night was stuck on highway for a few minutes before it started shifting again
4everfree thecovenent yea see if I’m not riding it won’t shift up but if I’m riding I can shift three all the gears but I have to push it down like a cm and then kick it up or Vice versa
i have a 2003 kawasaki ninja 250. it will down shift into first and go back into neutral but it won't go anywhere else. i can yank on the shifter and it won't go into 2nd. any idea what it could be?
Kawasaki used three balls on one gear that prevented the gear from moving unless the transmission shaft is spinning. It is called positive neutral finder. if your bike is moving and wont shift into second or higher there is possibly a problem with the transmission shaft... or those balls are stuck. some people(not factory assembly.) decided to use grease to hold the balls in upon transmission assembly. this causes a problem.
I have a R1 2001 but the gear pedal moves a lil bit and have problem with the second gear sometimes it goes from second to neutral sometimes it dosent goes do you have any idea what it might be but the gear pedal moves i suspect that it might be the problem there can you help me ?
Haven't looked yet at my zx6r 2001 having a problem with shifting, shifting down works like a dream but after 2nd i can't go further to 3rd without taping down the shifter, won't go back to normal position stays up. Tomorow looking at it . Hope you had an easy fix on yours, ohh and mine is green too :D
