Had a similar Genesis experience. Started with Duke and also Gabriel’s 3rd album and started to put 2 and 2 together. Went to the local record store and flipped through the G’s and saw other Genesis albums. ATTWT, SEBTP, Trespass , WAW and I was hooked!
Thanks for the mention, Davey, good to hear about your musical journey too! For those who don't know, Davey and I crossed paths at least once or twice at Titus Oaks, a record store in Westbury, NY, in a former Wetson's Hamburgers building, imagine that. Best of luck with your channel !!!
Fun video! My musical journey is parallel to MTV which started close to when I was born. My mother treated it like a radio. My earliest memories are of The Human League’s “Fascination” and Bowie’s “China Girl”. I grew up listening to my Mom’s women rockers like Pat Benatar and girl groups like The Go-Gos. My dad’s favorite band was probably Jethro Tull. The first CD I ever bought for myself was Tears for Fears’ Songs from the Big Chair. I came of age when Nirvana’s Nevermind came out but one of the albums that really changed how I heard music was Brian Eno’s Another Green World, which helped me understand that music had space and texture and was really the sum of its parts. In my college days I listened mainly to indie rock rather than top 40 music and read music blogs like Pickfork and Stereogum. I admit I don’t seek out new music like I used to but I’m causally interested in where music is going.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I think a lot of people will mention MTV in their respective journeys. My town wasn’t wired for MTV until later on, so it doesn’t figure that much into my story. Cheers!
Good Evening, I would like to make a suggestion. Please "determine" if your video volume is adequate. Reason being to me, I think that your "broadcasting volume" is too low. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the pointer. I taped this shorter video after a longer video. It’s possible that the microphone had lost its charge by then. I’ll be more careful in the future. Thanks for watching!
