Join me as I give a quick tour of my 2024 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium in Nautical Blue Metallic. Also give me your opinion on if I should keep the Miata or trade it in on a 2024 Mustang GT.
I just bought my 4th 4Runner(2024). I was in an accident with my 2017 last week. Let me tell you, it kept me safe. Airbags hurt but it did what it was suppose to do. I also got almost all of the money I paid for it back in 2017. Welcome to the 4Runner family. Best vehicle out there and worth the money!!
I too just bought a 24’ Off Road premium in January, Bar Red. After owning a new school 22’ for two years this opened my eyes to buying an old school before they’re gone. Something to be said about old school once you own the new school high tech power trains and infotainment (the Toyota service advisor sum-ed it up by saying “the Tundra is semiconductor on wheels”).
Very nice- congrats! I totally agree. Everytime i drive the 4runner and see those old school analog gauges and nice large actual knobs to control everything I think to myself this is the way. I look forward to owning this for a long long time
You made a great purchase. I bought a 2016 SR5 Premium new and it has 157K on it. Nothing has broken on it; not even a light bulb. Changed oil, filters, tires, brakes, and spark plugs regularly and that's it. It goes anywhere I feel comfortable going with it, in any weather. One thing to give you a heads up on; when you have to brake hard, the nose of the truck dives down due to the softer off-road suspension; it's startling the first time and annoying after that. The truck stays stable during the hard brake though. Watch the frame for surface rust after a few years; I sprayed rustproofing everywhere I could and that has worked well. Enjoy.
I second the other comment: this is a dream garage. The Miata is internal combustion motoring bliss distilled to its most essential elements. And the 4Runner is go-anywhere-do-anything SUV practicality and reliability distilled down to its essential elements. I vote keep the Miata instead of the Mustang
4 Runner was my dream vehicle when I was a teen. Still want one and will probably get one this year as a car I can go into retirement with. Hopefully I can get one before the 4 turbos come out soon. We shall see.
Welcome to the 4runnner family, i have a 2016 4runner trail with kdss that i bought new in the same color as yours, I've totally decked her out for overlandding and cannot be any happier with a vehicle like the 4runner. The fact that it's built in Japan where's the Tacoma isn't, is a no brainer. Enjoy your new ride, as for the mustang. Like most domestics. The quality is going down hill. I would probably keep the Mazda.
Thanks!! Absolutely loving it so far. I definitely have some mods planned out in my mind. A little lift and some new wheels and tires. I bet your 4Runner looks great with all the overland gear. I wish I had kdss but it’s hard to find one around me with that option. 100% agree with the Japan build quality- part of what makes it special. Very tough decision as far as the Miata goes. I know if I sell it I’ll miss it. Luckily I have a few months to decide. Cheers and thanks for watching
Wow! Your '23 Miata video was suggested to me by RU-vid so I decided to watch it. Early in that video you mentioned your 4Runner - my jaw dropped. I own a '19 4Runner and a '23 Miata with the exact same specs as yours... just different colors. Great vehicles!
Thanks for posting this, Mike. Interestingly, I'm thinking of getting out of my 2020 VW GTI and going to a 4runner before the V6's are gone and the 4cylinder turbos are launched. Your timing is spot on!
I do miss my 2022 T4R TRD OR-P with the MTM & KDSS. I like that the lines on the cameras followed the tires. I was doing Uber/Lyft and couldn’t afford the gas when it was $3.86/gallon at Costco Honolulu. It was Lunar Rock, I got it in October 2021 and sold it in December for $5,000 more than I bought it for. Down here that rig is $52,000 since Toyotas are really loved and the Police use them as subsidized patrol vehicles. I just picked up a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR base Access Cab on 27 January 2024 because it still has the clamshell and naturally aspirated V6. I got $1225 of of sticker.
Congrats on the Tacoma! Yeah the 4Runner can be rough on gas for sure. Jealous of you living in Honolulu though one of favorite places. Thanks for watching
Bought the exact same one in midnight blue two days ago. Hummed and hawed over the waiting for the Gen 6 but went for this given how the new Tacomas aren’t selling… a possible glimpse into the future of the 4Runner.
Ran across your video because I just bought the same exact 4 Runner even the same color you have. Funny thing is my other car is a red Miata! I had to laugh 🙂
@@MikesCarObsession nice!!! my dad is chickening out and has to get another tacoma for firewood and stuff but i got my off road premium a couple days ago and i love it
@@mikes.8823 nice I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I had a Tacoma before, great trucks. With a kiddo though I definitely need the bigger back seat area. Congrats on your 4runner
Just bought a new exact same model - long time toyota fan and this is probably my favorite car ive ever had. Me personally I would keep the miata. Mustang is a nice car but I keep coming back to japanese cars.
You love to see it. I have a 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition that I bought new in June 2017. I now have over 194K miles on the ODO and, as one could predict, this vehicle has been nothing short of rock solid. I would like to get a 2nd vehicle but my 4Runner has showed no signs of slowing down. I can't see myself getting rid of mine any time soon.
Have a 23 in lunar rock. It’s my pre retirement vehicle. You should do a early oil change. Did mine at 700 km. Ans wow so much metal…. Another at 1300 and a little. And another at 2500 and no metal.
My garage is similar. 4Runner TRD Off-road Premium and the exact same Miata as well as a 19 Subaru STI. The 4Runner and STI are great in the PNW winters.
I bought the same last Saturday in Underground. Quite an adjustment coming from a Ram 2500 but I loving it. I’m curious if remote start using the key fob works for you. I can’t get it to work and the dealer hasn’t been much help.
Congrats! Underground is a sweet color. No remote start on the trim I have (TRD off road premium) I believe remote start only comes from the factory on the TRD Pro and the limited trim unfortunately.
@@MikesCarObsession thanks for the response. That’s BS in 2024 on a $50k truck. That’s a much needed feature here in NH. Enjoy your new ride. Any mods planned for it yet? I just ordered a Molle panel for the drivers rear window. Ceramic coating and oil undercoating is in the works.
@@joelhuntress6736 you can add remote start at the dealership. I think it’s around 3-400 here in the Dallas area at least. I would love to add a little lift and some 33” tires at some point.
Toyota has some weird rules regarding remote start. Our 2017 has it factory installed but you had to subscribe to their remote connect service to engage it which we never did and now the service is no longer available. You might be able to get yours going if you know someone who has the Techstream program that the Toyota dealers use to customize and diagnose Toyotas.
Great 4Runner you purchased. Very sharp. I have a '22 Limited now. I am going to buy a '24 Limited as I can trade fairly reasonably and I'll have the last year of the V6 and this classic body. Great combo in the garage. As a single dude as well, I always have a 4Runner (I've had Grand Cherokee Overlands & Range Rover Sports in the past--I prefer the 4Runner for many reasons) for my main driver and a Porsche 911 for my second car. I can buy and own a 911 and sell it for generally what I paid for it. Then buy another one. Works well. I'd hang on to the Miata in lieu of the Mustang. The Miata is a great track car for the weekends, is reliable, and holds it value well. The Mustang can be sharp, however, they are a Ford product and they will depreciate heavily. And frankly, the Mustang is not a very good track car/handling car. The Audi TT's are great second cars as well.
Thanks! A 911 is my dream car. I used to have a 2014 Cayman (I guess my RU-vid profile photo is still of me by it) and I still miss it. Very hard to beat the sound of a nice flat 6. I think trading for a 24 would be a good move. That’s part of the reason I wanted a 24. Having the last model year of this generation will be pretty special.
The Miata is a great car for sure- very special in its own way. I already know if I sell it I will miss it. You’re right very reasonably priced and the operating costs are very low. The TT is a wonderful car. I’ve driven one many times and almost bought one but I really wanted a manual for my fun/second car.
Thank you! I am glad you are enjoying yours. I see myself keeping this for a long time and hope to take a lot of road trips in it and make some great memories with the family. No, I don’t have the KDSS but I’ve read nothing but good things about it. For some reason most of the 4Runners in the southeast region do not have it.
Hello I’m glad I stumbled across your question about KDSS because I have a question about this. I’m looking to purchase 2024 trd off road premium,my question is how do you know which model and year is equipped with the KDSS system?
congrats! i have a 2005 with V8 but in 2wd and im shopping around probably getting a 2020 to 2024 in about six months. does the navigation need service or a monthly payment?
Older couple here. Car will outlast us. Some questions. Is it pleasant enough for everyday driving? With a step added, can an elderly person step into it okay. Not too high? Will buying the RWD be a mistake. City driving only. Low mileage driver so bad mpg not an issue. Live in Ohio. The $ 3500 discount is going on here too. I think the SR5 Premium makes the most sense for us. Currently have a 2021 Venza Limited. Great car but time for a change. Loved our 1998 truck based Ford Explorer Sport.
Thanks for watching. I personally think a 4Runner would be great for you. There is a ton of aftermarket support on these so you can find alot of side step options. Nothing wrong at all with a RWD in my opinion. You still get most of the benefits and reliability of owning a 4Runner! I do enjoy some mild off roading when traveling to Arizona and Colorado so I kind of “needed” a 4wd. But for city driving a rwd would serve you fine.
We are 71 and have a 17' 4runner that I believe will outlast us easily. (at least that is what my friends tell me) We have the automatic retractable side steps that make it easy to get into. Very solid vehicle!
45k before taxes, maybe. I'm sure you were close to 50 after tax, title, registration, and the dealer's ridiculous "documentation fee." I hate the process of buying a car, but I'll be buying the same exact truck very soon. A 2023, lightly used. Nautical Blue, hopefully. There aren't many around. Enjoy yours! It's good we aredoing this now, before the stupid 4 cylinder 4Runner era hits next year.
I paid $48,000 OTD for my 2024 TRD ORP with moonroof, TRD skid plate, All Weather Mats and iPhone cables. I spent 2 hours negotiating. Dealers make money after the purchase by selling extended warranties and other items. I got $5,529 off of MSRP and over $6k that the dealer had marked up with nonsensical items.
I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD Pro, which I like a lot but only drive it around town. I’m thinking of trading it for a 2024 4Runner and was interested in how you would compare the two since you had a Tacoma before. Do you like the 4Runner more?
Hi- I do like the 4Runner more for a few reasons. Mainly the 4Runner has quite a bit more interior room, especially in the back seat for my little girl. Power wise they seem very similar. Lastly for my personal lifestyle i like the utility of the covered hatch area more vs a truck bed. Thanks for watching!
Take off the charcoal mesh filter on the air filter lid. Install a k&n filter. Do not add air intake, this setup is perfect. Leave the the exhaust alone, its already 2.5 inch. When you buy an aftermarket muffler no difference. Add blisten 5100 with 275 on stock rims. And you be good to go. Change the oil every 5000 with amsoil ss
I bought it from Rusty Drewing Toyota in Jefferson City MO. Good luck with your search! Maybe with the 6th gen finally announced there will be some deals on these 24’s
Good call getting that Instead of the new Tacoma, I traded my 23 Tacoma for the 4R.. zero regrets! by the way what tint percentage do you have? Looks great
Do you mind sharing who you worked with at the dealship? I see they have a similar unit I would be interested in. Was that $45K including the shipping to your door?
@@jeffking1924hi yes it included shipping to me in Texas. I worked with Jacob Cahill. This is his email address you can tell him Mike from Dallas referred you jcahill@drewingauto.com
Hi- it was around 48 and I paid 45. My state taxes are 6.25% so around 48k all in. Not cheap but I bet it’s about 10k less than what a 6th gen will cost.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our FORERUNNER, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. Hebrews 6:19-20 (NIV)
How do you know what to pay for a 4Runner? Whether new or used? I bought an old Nissan Xterra because its the poor mans 4Runner. Its all I could afford! You have to have wealth to own a 4Runner! Just say it! Nobody says it! Can I even get a g 4Runner for $5000, probably not, right?
It’s hard to say. The good news is that 4Runners have legendary reliability so you can have some confidence picking up an older model with high miles. The Xterra is a sweet ride though. I’ve always thought Nissan should bring them back
Probably best made vehicle on the road. Unfortunately it’s a gas hog. Bad transmission 🤣 It will last for ever. Slow as a dog. They are cheap now. Not many people want them any more. Everyone waiting for new gen.
