The Bokeh on this lense looks almost anamorphic. Beautiful images.

$1200?! It compares very similarly to the Helios 44-2 58mm f2 but you can find one of these for $200. The only upsides I see are the vast mounting options and the slightly wider aperture

and the sharpness and the build quality and the less wobbeley mount. its like comparing the canon 50 1.8 with the 1.2

@@TheFilmGuyOfficial how much sharper is it over the 44-2 with the aivascope at f2?

Had the exact same thoughts but now I‘ve got myself the Biotar. I use Helios lenses a lot, especially the 40-2 but the build quality is entirely different. Setting the aperture is a bit painful with helios lenses, it‘s not just a simple ring. Meyer Optik released the Biotar 75, which is probably as brilliant as the 85, however I only shoot film so I got myself the M42 mount version. The 75 doesn’t have that so I‘ll stick to my 40-2.

I did like to buy the Cine version with the PL mount. I hope they do it. I'm in love with this lens. Also, looking at the Great Joy 1.35x adapter. Please let us know when they release the Cine version. Just subscribe to your channel.

Ugh, that rainbow ripple flare is ugly. I've never seen that in the OG Zeiss Biotar. What did Meyer Optik do to the elements to create that effect?

Its not as sharp or any better than my Helios 44 13 blades except his one is f1.5

@@simonc4764 we havnt found that to be the case at all but to give you some argument, it’s very difficult to know what the hellios 44 looks like because they are all old and Will have slightly different amounts of character. We have two copies and this lens is sharper than both!

Breathtaking. Absolutely amazing. I have an aivascope 1.5x and have always been longing for a BIOTAR lens. I always thought that the combination of aivascope and biotar would be a match made in heaven, but it was difficult to find the original version of biotar in good condition or it was too expensive than I thought. I fell in love with this video today and am going to buy both the Mayer biotar 58 and 75. Thank you so much for sharing the great video!

Unfortunately the old Biotar/Helios 58mm bokeh is still king, looks very different and I like the old ones much more.

Hi, exciting review and beautiful shots! Question: at what point did you use the Aivascope Anamorphic in these sequences? Did you use the anamorphic shots in the intro? I’m confused as to what’s the bokeh from the lens vs w the Aivascope 🤔
@TheFilmGuyOfficial
@TheFilmGuyOfficial Год назад
It’s very mixed! But honestly the animal figured out the only enhances the character that’s already there, so it always looks very similar whether you have the adapter on or not!

Nice images! Could you confirm the size of the M Mount variant of this lens? I initially bought the Sony E Mount for my FX3, but it is significantly larger than the advertised Nikon Z version. If I'm not mistaken, you're using the EF version, which also seems compact I've since returned the E Mount and ordered the M Mount (hoping it’s compact in size), which I plan to pair with my Sony FX3 using a Voigtlander M to E close focus adapter. However, I'm a bit concerned about its size since there there are no reviews or advertising referencing what this M Mount version of the lens looks like
@TheFilmGuyOfficial
@TheFilmGuyOfficial Год назад
sorry, I don't have the M mount version. I assume the e-mount version is bigger becuase of the required flange distance for e mount lenses is large.
