I did like to buy the Cine version with the PL mount. I hope they do it. I'm in love with this lens. Also, looking at the Great Joy 1.35x adapter. Please let us know when they release the Cine version. Just subscribe to your channel.
Sadly, the Sirui SVT has been replaced with an SVS version, presumably due to copyright infringement regarding the release mechanism for the legs. Unfortunately, that kills the product for me as the leg release is a BIG feature. Twist release mechanisms are garbage IMO.
1. Can you combine speed booster with a variable adapter? 2. For example the Mophage Poco Variable ND adaptor with Metabones Cine speed booster on a Red Komodo-X? I would really appreciate any evidence based answer you can give.
100% no. Unfortunatly there are no adaptors that mount like you describe and if you could make it happen it would create a macro extention tube effect where you'd only be able to focus close up. Also macro tubes like that are not compatible with anamorphic lenses because flange distance (space from the rear of the lens to the camera sensor) is super important in getting sharp images with anamorphic. It'd be completely unusable. If you want a speedbooster you need internal camera nd or front filtration from screw on nds or a clamp on mattebox.
@@bonedna6139 they had no involvement in the video and we purchased the items ourselves! If they want to sponsor us, we would’ve taken it, but they haven’t offered the sponsor or anything on the channel
@@TheFilmGuyOfficial It's just that almost everyone says how cool everything works, but no one talked about the disadvantages as if they didn't exist. This gives the impression that this is an advertisement
@@TheFilmGuyOfficial my apologies guys! Good job My fault is that I didn't watch the video well. And after a bunch of videos about how everyone praises dji, I started to think that your video is like that too. And I didn't understand the sarcasm at the beginning.
anychance you can share the 3d print for the lidar unit rod mount? My setup is similar and it's going to be very cramp if I snug the lidar unit on the top of the camera.
Honestly what have wanted to see is what the laowa 1.33 would look like on the Blazar Remus lenses. I know it’d be funky and likely need to be on super 35, but I feel like it would be pretty funky! 😂
While we no-longer have the Laowa to try, I have tested the Remus with the GreatJoy 1.35x and have found the 65mm and 100mm clear full frame with just over 2x squeeze. There are dark corners but much better coverage than I anticipated.
Thanks for the coment! I like the C70 but I've never consisderd it to be an suitable FX6 competitor because it was too small and lacked some key features. I agree the C80 is much closer than the C70 was but but that's only just been announced, we're not clairvoyant haha!
Yeah, Like Taylor says, after the C80 announcement we feel the C80 = FX6 and C400 = FX9.... We'd love to see an R3c or R6c whichever would have the C80/C400 sensor with CLOG2, timecode-in and IBIS in a smaller FX3 size body for gimbals etc 😍
@@TheFilmGuyOfficial Hah no worries, I had to double check my use of the term as well. Have a good one, and thank you for this informative comparison video between these lenses.
@@natrix I think you're both right. I believe back in the day the term mumps was more often used when refering to the squeeze changing from center to edge of frame making actors look thinner vs bigger and apparently some actors would request not to be framed where they'd look biggest. More recently I think it's been used to talk about squeese changing when focusing.
@@ShaneVanLitz Yeah sort of, "mumps" are basically just an inconsistent squeeze across a frame that unnaturally/unflatteringly distort things like a face. Some lenses have it worse than others but the Remus have it super bad. In theory, I think you can have an overall squeeze change throughout a focus pull that won't necessarily give you "mumps". Because if your monitor is set to the desqueeze that corresponds with that specific focus range the image should look correct. With Remus lenses however, if an actor is in the corner of your frame, no matter your focus position or monitor de-squeeze, that uncontrolled barrel distortion and squeeze is gonna turn a face into a boomerang. Does that make any since?
The placement of it sure gives me a headache, the cables are pretty special too, had one break and no one was carrying a replacement in store and none of my other cables fit into the handle. I do wish there was some cables that was longer too for when mounting the lidar a bit higher up. Also noticed the problem with the battery and well I have lost my profiles more than once and had to go through the whole part with synching my lenses again. It goes pretty fast but if you set it all up at home and then end up on location it is really annoying to set them up again. I really do hope someone will sell a better mount like you have. I have small rigs matte box for some of my lenses and it blocks the lidar
Hi, Thanks for this review. It was very useful when choosing an adapter. I picked the great joy, but I’m going to need a support. The fb link you posted no longer works. Is there any other way to get the support foot. Thanks again
@@broncomedia we tried to get a hand on that one for a comparison but they didn’t want to do it! I know that one has slightly more coverage and compatibility with lenses. I would also imagine the quality of their nds are nicer but I can’t be sure
Hey, do you think it makes any sense to use the 35 in FF mode? Meaning does the crop required to lose hard vignette equate the FOV to that of 45mm or is there still some extra width there? I know that Blazar just dropped the 33, but I'm using Red Komodo with a PL Speedbooster so that huge rear element is definitely not gonna fit. Also judging from the tests posted by Blazar today, new 33 seems to lack some of imperfections that I like about other Remus lenses.
On full frame the 35mm is still wider than the 45mm even after corrections - I personally shoot full frame with it quite frequently TBH and in both s35 and full frame (with corrections) it's my favorite lens in the set, followed by the 65mm... I think I posted an image on the Facebook group a while back that showed it vs the 45mm on full frame with and without corrections before we made this video. I agree it's a really tough choice now that we know the 33mm has that rear element!
@@ShaneVanLitz Thanks! I'll look for that post now! Might actually go with 35 then, as the new B set doesn't really cover anything new for me in terms of FOV. 125mm is not that drastic of an increase since difference between focal lengths in that telephoto range is pretty negligible unlike the wides.
@@DastanZhumagulov Yeah, as much as I'm interested to see how they perform and new lenses are always cool to see... I'm not sure the B-Set is different enough from the A-Set to make anyone feel they really 'need' both. I'd maybe rather the 50mm than the 45mm, or the 85mm over the 100mm but I'm not sure I need a 45mm AND 50mm if you get my meaning. Either of the sets and one of the wide angle options is probably enough for most shooters.
That´s a great review really. I have a kind of niche-question: I own the C70 and a R6ii for documentary and TV run and gun- I want ti update one of them. Would you exchange the R6ii with the R5ii or the C70 with the C400?
That’s up to you! I’d look at getting a b camera with the same log profiles as the a camera to start with so like you say the R5ii fits the bill but I’d be very cautious about overheating for documentary work! I think the c70 Is a great camera and might even make for a great b camera if you could keep it?
hi sorry can I ask you for that bumper cover protection from the DJI Focus Pro where did you get it and I would like to put it too? Can you send me the link so I can get it? I'm waiting thank you very much
Around 3:50, are the cameras marked incorrectly? The top image is so much better all around than the bottom one, but you mention the bottom image is the C400. I can kind of see what you're saying if it's strictly going on dynamic range as the blacks are slightly darker, but it loses color information so much faster than the top image and becomes basically unusable very quickly.
Hey mate, no they’re not! And that colour information looks like it’s gone on the canon but it’s not if we increase saturation it’s all there and it comes back! We find the Canon has a gradual fall off with the Sony drop off a cliff! If that makes sense.
It's also very deceptive on RU-vid with the compression etc. We're looking at ways to better show these if we do more in the future. Rest assured though, neither camera is what I would call usable at those extremes (+5 and +6 were IMO not salvagable on any of the cameras we tested, even if they look pretty OK here after all the compression) and the C400 is much nicer all the way untill they both fall off a cliff.
@@castielvargastv7931 in the grand scheme of things it’s not really that expensive if you’re doing corporate which we think this Camera is for you can get that in one gig.
@@AldrinSamson it can do repairable motions. It’s just not perfect at it. This is not a software thing. This is because it is on a plastic gear track which is going to have margin for error. I don’t think this can be fixed with firmware!
I would have loved to see how the blazers performed when stopped down a little! Love the look of the mercuries, but they are more expensive and also heavier I think.
They get a hair sharper stopped down but the Mercuries are still way sharper wide open than the Blazars ever get even at T5.6 or more. That said, I do think it's fair given the extreme cost and size difference though!
f400bi is the better option. I have 2. super quick to assemble, no silly frame, more power to area ratio, lighter, cheaper. And the LED's are so tightly packed, you can use it without diff
Hi Guys, Thanks so much. Are you the ONLY non Canon-flag-waving, company song singing reviewer Canon loaned this camera to?? Honest reviews give so much more confidence to order, but Canon marketing don't seem to understand this yet, so most reviewers are afraid to say the S word...
Thanks! We obviously can't speak for other reviewers, but what I will say is that the Canon reps who visited with the C400 were very nice and helpful. They let us take the camera when really they didn't have to do that at all, they didn't ask to see the video before we posted and they seemed genuinly interested in what we had to say and I hope they include some of our feature requests going forward. With that said - Canon didn't choose to send us an R5ii to test before they were availbable to the general public even though we asked for one... But I don't think that was in response to this video at all, more that we only got a C400 because one crossed our paths and it seems Canon don't normally go out of their way to provide sample cameras, they rather loan out retail kits.
@@ShaneVanLitz Canon's influencer marketing may work on gen Z's, but IMHO the primary demographics of the people who'd buy a C400 want real reviews, not YT warriors rabbiting on above their pay grade. You provided one, thanks again.
I work in wildlife and nature documentaries. We often use the fx6 to 80,000-160,000 iso, we of course have to clean it up but I am really intrigued to know how well the C400 holds up in comparison to the FX6 at these extreme iso levels
I have been shooting pictures on the FX30 for quite some time now, mostly with a 24MM GM and you have once again affirmed that this camera is fully capable of amazing stills with the right glass.
@@LonzosStudios Taylor here! Yeah, I disagree with Shane on this one, which is why I added the text on screen at the time. Maybe he’s used to it, but I genuinely like having everything on the same side! I wish they made it a little little bit longer so we could’ve kept the extra card slot
@@TheFilmGuyOfficial Thx for replying. Still wish I could see because shooting these lenses (close to) wide open isn't how they'd be used most often. T4 (or T2.8/T4 split) would be really interesting I think :D
Would you know how lens distortion works on a micro 4/3 camera, like the Panasonic GH7, and the metabones speedboster? Is the distortion more evident or less?
For just using Lidar AutoFocus without the Active Track moving the gimbal, you have to be in WIDE mode, not Flex Spot mode. I've just done a test and it was able to keep me in focus, even if I moved to the sides of the frame without moving the gimbal at all. Interested if you've still had a different experience?
@@AlterEgoCreates okay? Shane checked it and you are correct. It does have a basic face tracking in wide mode. Shane says that this is close to what he is wanting but not quite the same as the handle allows you to lock onto faces rather than just let the AF do what it wants . It also doesn’t have the ability to tweak the stinkiness nor can you take over the focus like you can with the handle
@@TheFilmGuyOfficial Yea fair enough. Not perfect but doable. I need to test with multiple people but I think in wide mode, you roll the wheel and it'll select and stick to the one you specify. *I think* that's how it works, even if you don't hit the trigger which would initiate active track. Question for you! Have you sorted out if the RS4 Pro can only store 3 lenses, or is there a way to do more like the grip that can store 15?? I find it crazy that it's essentially the same hardware piece but I can't get more than 3 on the gimbal. Would love to know if you experience the same.
@@AlterEgoCreates as far as i know its still limited to 3 lenses. we think they should allow you to store the info in the app and swap out as needed if memory is the limitation.
