Thank you so much!! You always making lots of progress to benefits our orchids I'm glad you shared 🙏🏻 with us... God bless you always and your beautiful family, greetings from Florida 🙌🏻
Things change fast in the orchid world so confusing, it doesn’t help that my intro to orchids was getting 7 sick dying orchids, it’s been exhausting, stay blessed, your so kind!
Peace and Blessings. So Happy to have found you. I have been wanting to know more about growing orchids; so good to be tutored by someone who is passionate about ORCHIDS! As I listen and learn I hear love in your voice on so many levels. This is very soothing to hear as I study with you. I actually have a Phalaenopsis, planted in an orchid medium. I rescued it from a home improvement store. It had no blooms, but it had great leaves. So now that it is two years old I would like to repot it but I don't really know anything about Orchid care. I am binging on your channel and I think I've hit upon a gold mine EUREKA!
Hi Amy very nice growths on your tester phal ☺ thank you again for your advices i am doing ok now with my orchids i feel more confident i started 9 months ago ☺. have a great day 😙
Paula from Mexico. Thank for answering one of my questions. Calcium is very important. I did try a new Phaleonopsis in water culture, it was not doing good, it was going down hill. A learning curve. I repotted it back in bark. It is slowly coming back, lost one leave, & bud blast. My mistake was that it was in bark. I tried to get all the bark off. I was losing those roots because of the damage caused by pulling off the bark, one. Two I should have left it bare rooted for a day to harden over those spots damages from the bark. I have about 5 Phaleonopsis in ICU, so to speak, Rescue orchids from other people, to experiment on. They didn’t like water culture, too wet. So I leave them dry with a very very little water in bottom, most have no roots, I left the string of the dead roots. I fertilize once a week. Run clean water over once a week, mid week. They are all starting new roots. Some of them have inch and a half stems. Which makes it difficult for the water Levels. They have baby leaves, no big ones. If they survive can I cut back the stem???
Paula from Mexico. Thank you for listening. I have been doing a cal-mag foliage feed twice a week, at night. The results is my leaves are bigger & lots of new roots, bigger, fatter & stronger. Got that from Rick L.
Always love your video and will give a try. For some reason that it seems my phals doesn't take Calmag and empson salt very well. I only see the changes when first two times use it. I top up the water every a few days previously since the water is very clean. I noticed that my flowers turns to green/yellow after a few weeks then I checked the PH was only around 4ph after a week, I started to change the entire water each week, but I still don't think they are healthy as the bottom of the leaves are drooping and bit soft, will try your method. Thanks so much for the tips
Thanks Amy, your fertiliser recipes are great! I’ve noticed a big difference since I’ve started using calcium/magnesium. We can’t get cal/mag in the U.K., but after watching a Ricky video I purchased some Garden Lime (not hot) and it’s a product made in Holland but I got mine on eBay from Germany, it got a high ratio of calcium/magnesium. Luckily it’s water soluble so I do dissolve a few grains of it first in my rainwater. Currently I’m also using Superthrive fertiliser. Eventually I may find a method that I stick with, but at the moment this is it! The one I’m interested in trying one day is ‘bone, fish and blood’. I use it in my garden with fantastic results.😊
Hi Chris! Thanks so much for this information! I'm glad you found a way to add calcium and magnesium to your water culture orchids, mine have improved dramatically since I started using CalMag! I've had several questions about adding Garden Lime to water culture, so I can pass this information along. Keep me posted on the bone, fish and blood meal...I've been wondering about that one, too! Happy growing and have a great day! :) Amy
Hi Amy! I've been watching your videos and got amazed by orchids and got a view of what a challenge they are. I have one orchid i purchased about 4 months ago, she's been doing well, but lately i saw a mold inside the medium. I took it out of the medium, and saw a little bit of rot and cleaned it. I dont have a new medium, so i wonder if orchid that has a bit of rot on the roots has a chance on survival in water culture?
Hi, love the information but I am new to this and not sure what cal- mag is and where to you get it? I looked at the store did not find anything, if using media isz the same fertilizer you use is OK to use on them also?. thanks for your help
Good morning! 🌞 I am wondering if you could provide the links for your online purchases in the description box? I have not been able to find them....thanks and do give a hug from me to Buddy!
I'm new to your channel but find your videos very instructional which is very helpful. I don't have a lot of the items you are using but am going to try and buy them. I do have seaweed extract that I've had for a few years (I hope it's still good) and was wondering if I should try using that on my orchids in the mean time. I have no way to test the ppm yet so I don't know how much to you but your advice would be helpful. Also when it comes to the espom salts is it just any kind or a specific kind? Also can this fertilization method be used all year or vary during the months? I did come across your winter video but have not found a spring one. Also do you use this fertilizing recipe for phals that are in bloom or do you vary the amounts? I've been watching many of your videos and it's a lot of information to take in. :)
Last leaf fell off today. So phal now has no means to convert the yummy fertilized water into sucrose to use for energy. Ahh but maybe roots can photo syth but the might not be enough. Guess there's only one thing to do, supplement sugar into the water. Have no idea if this will work but all or nothing I suppose. If it does maybe it'll induce keiki, if not it'll continue to the grave... faster
For your orchids in bark and moss do you intend to try increasing their fertiliser or do they do well on the lower amounts. Thank you for sharing this information.
Hi Maxine and thanks so much for watching! I have a video that answers your questions, here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yRaGOwZ6e5g.html Have a great day and happy growing! :) Amy
Hi Amy All of my orchids are in water culture, and none of them are blooming, actually I have 2 trying to spike. All of them are facing westward and I’ve upped the the fertilizer to 11-35-15 Better-bloom fertilizer. I’ve been on this regimen for 3-4 months now. The only conclusion I can come to is maybe not enough sunlight.... What do you think?
Hi Amy, I just bought all those products that you suggested in your video" fertilizer recipes for WC Phal." However, I wonder if I can save the leftover mixed water for next use? I only have 14 orchids in my collection. Thank you.
Hi Helene! I mix my fertilizer fresh everyday. Sometimes, when I don't have more than a few to fertilize, I'll mix up a smaller batch of it. It tends to turn acidic if you keep it for very long. Have a great day and happy growing!
Hi Margaret! Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I mist the aerial roots if they get dry, depending on the season. In the winter I have to more often than in the summer because of the lower humidity. Have a great day and happy growing!
Hello Amy, I am an orchid new mom and I came across your fertilizer recipe which I plan on using. My question is this. I have a dancing orchid that my mom got in a box of clippings which she had rooted in water for about a month or two now. How would you suggest fertilizing it? Also I keep it in water for six days and let it dry out overnight since the two roots are small and thin. Is that ok? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
Hi Amy thank you again to be my orchid teacher i very very appreciate your videos i look at them twice sometimes and keep take notes😁. I have a quick question do you give same ppm for big and small orchids ? I bought a new phal days ago i just gave first cal mag next day the flowers opened it was very impressive how she needs for food😮😊. Have a great day 😙
Would you say that the seaweed extract is making a big difference? This summer I messed up with some of my phals and they lost all and I mean ALL of their roots. They are growing the roots back with the sphag bag method I’m using, but I’m worried they won’t be established enough for winter - spring. I want to try to speed up the process or give them a boost before winter comes, but I’m not sure how.
Hi and thanks so much for watching! I do see a big difference in my orchids with the seaweed extract. It helps keep them hydrated and I'm not losing many leaves. Have a great day and happy growing!
Have a question in order to spike what temperature do phal need? I live in California and is still hot .I have 6 orchids in water culture out side. i clean the vase every friday and fertilizer for about and hour or so. Than You so much for this vid.
Hi! I have a video about this topic, here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3I--d_bSvcE.html Some of the orchids did spike after the cooler temps. We're having some cool temps in our area for the next few days, so I'm doing to try this again with my Phals that haven't spiked yet and see what happens. Usually, when Autumn weather kicks in here, that's when I get the most spikes. Have a great day and happy growing! :)
Amy, I'm SO glad that Phal Intenscity is doing better! I cannot believe it has grown 4 new leaves this year - that is amazing! You know I recently switched my Phal Intenscity over to NZ Sphagnum Moss because it wasn't doing well in WC. I'm going to lose one of the bottom leaves (It is totally yellow and almost ready to fall off) but it is growing a new leaf and is doing much better! I'm glad I made the switch while the weather is still warm. Your 'tester' phal looks wonderful as well (poor thing - it gets subjected to all kinds of different experiments, huh? Ha! Ha!) I have a question - do you place your WC Phals in the fertilizer solution when their roots are dry? You haven't experienced any burn at all, even with the high PPM concentration? That number almost seems like it would work for Vandas?
Hi Caro! I'm so glad to hear that your Phal Intenscity is doing well in sphagnum moss! And this is definitely the time of the year to do any converting back to media, so it will get some good growth before the cold weather sets in. I'm jubilant that mine has grown 4 leaves in one year...she's so happy to be in her mossy home! :) Yes, I place the WC Phals in fertilizer solution when the roots have dried out for a day. I haven't experienced any root burn at all. I actually give this same solution to all my Phals, whether they're in moss, bark, or WC. I believe that adding the CalMag makes the biggest difference. It supports the growth that the Nitrogen initiates. Interesting you should mention that the PPM concentration is similar to that of a Vanda...they are both monopodial orchids and they grow almost all the time. The reason I increased the concentration on this tester Phal was because it was starting to lose a leaf. I don't want it to lose anymore leaves. LOL! (Hey, it worked! haha)
@@OrchidWhisperer hey Amy and Caro, this just answered a question sparked by this video.....I wondered about using these higher ppms on orchids in other media.....Amy, do you use the same ppms on other orchids? (Non-phals)? Cara
Hi Cara! Yes, I use the same concentration with my orchids in media. I did videos in July and August 2018 about how to fertilize Dendrobiums, Cattleyas, and Vandas. They have different needs. Have a great day and happy growing! Amy
Hi! I have videos from July and August 2018 that I show recipe cards for my other orchids. They have different needs than the Phals. Thanks so much for watching and happy growing! :)
The last step mentioned at about the 2 minute mark on this video, you say the next day after letting it set dry, you put the phal back into the fertilizer water... then you give the recipi for the fertilizer. My question is what happens after you put the plant back in the fertilizer?? Does it stay in the fertilized water??
Hi Orchid Whisperer, I really enjoyed watching your videos. I didn't hear you saying the fertilizer schedule for Fall. Is it the same like Summer? 4 days in fertilized water, 1 day dry and back to fertilize it 4 days again. Thank you!
So 4 days in water, 24 hours dry? Then do you re use any of your previous water, or mix fresh each time? Im so excited to give this a go. Much love Ju xxx
Hi Julie! Yes, 4 days in fertilizer water and 24 hours dry after I've rinsed the root system with water. Then, repeat. I mix the fertilizer water fresh each time. (I'm not reusing the fertilizer water.) Keep me posted and I wish you lots of growing success! :) Amy
@@OrchidWhisperer just wish to confirm put phals into the fertilizer water after it was dried after 24hours, I thought the would be roots dry, thanks for your help
