Thanks for doing this review. I'm building out a vr sim racing rig with plans for flight sim and I'm just learning that there are other companies than Thrustmaster, Thrustmaster or Thrustmaster. Cheers dude.
Thrustmaster does entry level / mid range gear arguably better than anyone else in either the flight sim or racing gear markets though, so that's sort of fair.
The regular trigger is actually a dual trigger already, and there are click events for the outer trigger being flipped up, pulled and you can also combine all the trigger pulls for additional events.
“And it’s a another box in a box” LOL you have all the boxes one would need for Christmas presents this year. I’m excited to hear about what your going to put in those boxes.
The pinky lever has a digitial button halfway through the pull, so you can either use it as an axis, or as a button. On my MT-50 I use the lever for Flight-Assist toggle. The throttle lever works great for sensor zoom.
DCS world is having a massive sale on most of their modules, a lot of them with try before you buy. Just mentioning it, seeing the new HOTAS and all that
Nice video! A couple things to note; All Virpil Hat switches are either 2 or 4 way with push function, and the dials on the bottom right and side of the handle on the throttle are encoder dials, same with the mouse wheel on the stick, which has two push inputs. One has a clear tactile click, and the other is a deeper, less tactile click. And you can get two other sets of Cams for the WarBRD designed for space Sims, with linear arcs as opposed to the default cams designed for atmospheric flight with heavier force required at further deflection, and additionally you can get Extra Heavy springs for the gimbal you have as well if you're using extensions or find the stick is too lose with the included Heavy springs.
These joysticks are incredible. Unfortunately the price is very far from my reality in Brazil, but I would certainly buy it if I had a better condition. Nice video, man.
Congrats on the new HOTAS. I know you guys have been waiting painfully for them when you pre-ordered them. Looks great and can't wait for your full review.
@Down to Earth Astronomy the extra stick on the right side of the throttle is mainly used for air-brakes for jet fighters and big airliners and it also looks like it can work for flaps if programmed. Huge thx for this video it is an amazing review.
I have a dual stick Virpil MongoosT-50 setup with a throttle and some accessories, and I paid a little over $1500. Expensive as fuck, but the quality is unbelievably good. I've had them for about a year now and I love them. I just got sick of cheap thrustmaster crap that had sensors go bad every couple months and wanted something that would still work well a decade down the road. By far the worst thing about Virpil isn't the price, it's the restocking. They don't have the production they need to meet demand, nowhere close, so they're almost always sold out, and you have to watch like a hawk for their restock schedule, and buy it the second it goes live, and then you have to wait months more to actually receive it.
@@vinnyc.1265 Plus another 180 for the stick and 180 for the base - so around $700 all up - definitely for the hard-core player only given the many very good far cheaper options.
I haven't purchased any of their products, but the fact that they have a stick with the selector switch just like the F-14 Tomcat stick has me very impressed. Honestly I thought their products would be more expensive than what they are and I've actually considered buying their products down the road.
I took your advice when I previously asked about a Hotas, love the X52 and thank you again. This is damn near art. As soon as Elite either releases a MASSIVE content update on par with piloting a Capitol ship (or carrier for that matter) I have uninstalled Elite. If that content comes.... getting me a Verpil.
@@g_geezer3277 well, now they've updated their shop system to an per-order basis, so sure he can, question is how long you have to wait until they can fill your order.
"Another box ion a box", LOL. I just ordered that throttle (back ordered) yesterday. It will be paired with a VKB Gunfighter Mk.III ‘Modern Combat Edition’ Ultimate. I can't wait to set it all up! See you in ED!
It looks very awesome, did consider this, but as I am new to HoTaS, I got a deal on Logitech Saitek X52 pro. I think that is a good and cheap starter option :) but if I get hooked This or CM might be the one to go.
I'd love a comparison which this vs x56 as the X series has been one of the few hotas mainstays however haven't released a new one in quite some time. I've got an x52 pro which is fine but getting a bit old so I was considering the x56. Regardless, it's somewhat exciting to see a new hotas coming out.
I'd like to get that Virpil throttle. I have the VKB Kosmosima and it's the perfect PC joystick for me. These European throttles and sticks are the best. Beats the heck out of my old Thrustmaster Cougar.
First 17 seconds:Thrust Master Warthog will do anything you need. .Ok: Play: Forgive me but is that Sun light on his Arm? Didn't self combust? LOL. Very nice Joystick/Throttle setup. Your vids have helped me get through all aspects of Elite Dangerous. Thanx. Enjoy
Careful of the plug that fits on to the joystick base - its very fragile. The connection is easy to break if you accidentally snag and pull the the wire. I tape the wire to the base before the ferrite bead to protect the connection.
As an Mechanical engineer I am now literally drooling. As I am unemployed right now, as an engineer nor anything else I need to find a napkin to wipe it off lol.
How is the Virpil holding up after a year? I ask because the X55s I buy only seem to last a year of use before the internal wires break on the throttle.
does the throttle have a notch in the middle so you can easily find zero throttle? my friend had an x52 and i hated having to guess where zero was or just have it be 0-100 and have to use a button or hat for reverse
The little mini throttle looks like a miniaturised version of the Nozzle lever on the Harrier. On the Warthog there is also a small axis there (which is the friction control irl). I use it for zoom on DCS, but doesn't have a use in Elite. That is a seriously nice looking HOTAS though, more hat switches and axes than you'll ever really need! I'd be interested to see how it's holding up in say five years time.
Do you still use this? Did it last? I'm considering it but the price is way outside of my pay range... I bought an X56 Pro and hate it. Returning it today.
Does the mode switch on the throttle serve as a sort of modifier for the buttons and switches? So, 5 possible uses for each button on the throttle? Can't wait to see a vid on how you decide to bind this monster!
No offence but when was this filmed? Virpil no longer stock that throttle grip. They ceased production and even removed it all together from their webstore months ago
I am 100% tempted to get the same stuff you got except the throttle cause they don't have the one you have anymore so ill be getting their latest one which is the VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Throttle ,Curious though I think for all 3 of those items it comes out to a little over $1000 us dollars,my question for you is for that price do you think that setup will last a very long time? I ask cause I am so tired of buying joysticks anymore and having them fail after a year or two I just recently got the Thrustmaster T16000M FCS Flight Pack about a year or two ago and the Z axis I think its called for the twist of the joystick has already started flipping out I mean where the ship in Elite Dangerous will turn to the left :( So over all do you think spending a little over $1000 us dollars for the same setup as yours it will be worth the money? I don't want to have to buy another joystick for a very very long time. Btw I take very good care of my stuff and I am in no way rough with my stuff. I was going to get the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog but VIRPIL seems like better quality. Thank you in advance for the help.
@ 7.25 my jaw dropped. I have a few dead or dying switches on my Warthog throttle assembly. @ 8.17 that's one of my dying switches. Its a 2 position toggle forward throttle 100%, back 75%. I recommend the momentary! Now I know what to save up for o7
hi, i wanted to look at the hotas you got, however: google has deamed the site you linked as "unsafe" and i cant seem to beable to look at the price(US) and if it can include a set of flight pedels. i thought that you should know.
Thx for another great video, I have been looking at this for a while. If you don’t mind could you provide dimensions between mounting holes on both throttle and joystick base? I am trying to figure out if I can use it with my existing X52 desk mounts.
What I'm gathering from doing research for ED is the only way to get a better HOTAS than the X56 is to pay double the price, or cope with having not nearly enough buttons for the job.
How is the Virpil kit now after you've had it for a while? Still fine? I'm looking for a quality setup that will last and Virpil is one candidate. Any experience with their support?
Im guessing the full setup with rudder pedals costs 900€..! Just the rudder pedals for this is almost the same price as my "Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS" with rudder pedals...
I can tell you’re not a DCs guy because a lot of the levers you didn’t know what to use for, us DCs guys know EXACTLY what they’re going to be used for hahaha good review
10:12 position, why does so many not spot the third button at below of right throttle? It is right there! Place your thumb under the throttle and you find it.....
I'm dying to know how you're getting on with these (looking to replace a T16000 set at some point). Please could you do an in-depth review, or even just give a quick update on whether they are living up to expectations or not?
Nice, but after two years of refining my control setup the idea of starting over from scratch makes me want to fly straight into a white dwarf. Also, setups like this with lots of switches and buttons arrayed in a panel is a deal breaker for playing in VR.
Yeah, OMG i hate binding keys..! Think i can sit for half a day twisting my brain in ways it has never been twisted before, just to get something to start with, before more adjustments... At least it was like that when i got my first hotas with rudder pedals a few months ago, LOL!
I don't own this, but I can say there is no such thing as overkill with a good hotas. I've never said, 'man I wish I had LESS buttons/switches'! Get the most functional hotas you can afford- you'll be glad you did. And they hold their value, so you won't lose out if you don't like it.
was going to buy this, find it no TWISTING on the stick, totally deal breaker so go back to X56.... btw why is your X56 pre 2018 saitek version if you got it last year?
Currently the website only shows one throttle which is different to that and its out of stock, perhaps they only do short runs on certain ones. They look very nice but way too expensive for me, especially after conversion to NZD, ever since my Warthog crapped out I don't think ill ever spend much on joysticks again :(
your just getting your throttle ? thats the old model they dont even sell it anymore, but yea anyway i want the MongoosT-50CM2 Throttle / Constellation ALPHA-R and the MongoosT-50CM2 Base for my setup, they are alwase out of stock though
Switches click in the 4 directions and recenter. Analog moves freely and will snap back to center. I have the next generation of that throttle. I love it. There are so many settings its unreal. I use it for DCS and some aircraft I was finding things to bind to it. I am still waiting for the Alpha R to come back into stock. It's the last part of the set I need. Ran just under $900 USD. Since I had to order everything separately and got hit with $40-$50 in shipping per piece.
They have been selling some older ones, but not sure if it's iteration #1, #2, or #3, but I believe the one that they have been selling does not have detents, so that would mean it's either #2 or #3, but keep a look out, they still sell the old style from time to time. some people are buying them just to have a relic in the closet to create profile bindings and then just use on occasion. Kind of like at least having it in the Sim-parts treasure chest.
