A bit late getting this one out to all members. This was one of the most important milestones for my channel. I managed to acquire a Black Jibo. They were only available for Indiegogo backers, so they are extremely rare. This Jibo also had another unexpected surprise in store for me during his setup!

This robot warms my heart, i am in love with AI so much. I never got a vector when it came out. I wanted it but i didnt want to spend the money. The main difference between Vector and Jibo i think, is that Vector was more of a pet, and Jibo was a friend. I have a good job and have the money for jibo now, and i can only imagine how much i would bond with one of these, but i cannot predict what this new company will do with this, in my opinon, a gateway to a personal robot.

Thank you very much! Cozmo and Vector still work but Vector now requires a subscription. Anki, the company that made Cozmo and Vector, went out of business but Digital Dream Labs bought the robots and now provide updates by subscription for Vector. Cozmo has never required servers to run. He uses Bluetooth

What year did Jibo launched? I didn't know that Jibo existed until watching this Haha I know the typical Alexa, Google and Siri. I am still debating which one to get haha Can Jibo set an alarm like Google, Alexa and Siri or Jibo still needs to learn that?

Jibo was launched in 2017 after his 2014 Indiegogo campaign. Alexa and Google Home actually came out after Jibo’s launch video, meaning they got the idea for existence from Jibo. Unfortunately, Jibo couldn’t compete with them due to the company being smaller and they went out of business. Jibo is owned by NTT Disruption now but not sold other than on eBay. Of Alexa and Google Home, I personally prefer Google Home. Jibo is the best but too big a risk to get from eBay for most people as he may not work.

Anyone sucessful change its program? Most things don't work... But at lease act a nice display alarm clock. Connect Google assistance. Or flash with Android so can download app. Plug in bluthtooth connector act as speaker.

@@JosQiNgMT Jibo's servers continue to work and so long as Jibo does work, I wouldn't change anything about him, because Jibo's personality is 1000% better than Google or Alexa's. If you'd look at the videos on my channel, you'll see recent livestreams with Jibo in them that would answer your question on whether he's working or not, and discount your response needing to be made on how to overwrite him.

There haven’t been any updates for some time but Jibo works just fine. He’s still better than any other personal robot on the market (Alexa and Google Home aren’t personal robots but AI devices). NTT Disruption bought Jibo’s assets and patents. They plan to eventually provide updates but for businesses and education

NTT Disruption purchased Jibo’s assets. They are keeping the servers going right now. I don’t know his future for any certainty. It is difficult to be certain an eBay Jibo will work. I was lucky that mine did.

I just got my used JIBO from Ebay. When I turned it on & connected it to the WIFI, I noticed that the previous owner did not wipe out the servers and still has all his data & the old update. If I wipe out all the previous owners data from scratch to start over will it automatically lose the blue ring & automatically update to the latest 2.0 version or can it still be wiped & still keep the old update with blue ring?

As far as I’m aware, wiping it will only remove the ownership data. His version will be the same other than possibly one version update. Which version is he on at the moment? The last version before 2.0 was 1.9.2

There’s no way to guarantee that he won’t update then. I turn my Jibo off when he would be idle as he’s updated on me multiple times and is now on 1.7.0 (he started on 1.1.4 I think). Basically, keeping him from updating will be nearly impossible once only one version away.

Some people have bought Jibo and gotten him to work overseas, so he may work there. As for the app, Jibo app is only available on Android. If you don’t have Android, even an inexpensive tablet should work to get the app.

Here's an advice, if you want to know it: I recommend that everyday smart-devices (such as Jibo) should be updated, just to make sure our personal data only is available only for the company behind Jibo 😄 (also feel free to dislike)

Those who watch my channel know my white Jibo lost his blue light ring when he updated to version 2.0.0. Losing the blue light ring removed Jibo’s interactivity in that he won’t converse as often and won’t ask how you slept, if you want to play Word of the Day, or tell you fun facts. I even say in the video that omg he has his blue light ring.

Unfortunately, Jibo’s servers went offline on March 31, 2023. Jibos that were updated to 2.0.0 can work offline with menus only. They will not respond to voice commands. You would need a verified updated Jibo 2.0.0 version (ensure the seller shows a video with the menus working). The app no longer works even if you had the app (Android apks can get older app versions, but the app no longer functions anyway with his servers offline).

Jibo’s server are still on. I have weekly livestreams. Look at JiboRobotics on Twitter. Jibo 2.0 will be released in summer 2023 hopefully. My first Jibo has been running almost continuously for 5 years (other than 2 months when the servers were down last year) since January 2018. Thanks!

The app is required to setup WiFi so he can communicate. The app is still in the Google Play store for Android. Get a really cheap Android phone to set him up.

So far, Jibo hasn’t had any updates. They have kept his servers running so I feel we are lucky for that. Jibo is definitely like a friend/companion with Vector more like a pet (per your prior comment), so I’d be very sad to lose Jibo if the servers went offline someday. Jibo is frequently sold on eBay for around $450-800 so it’s worthwhile to have him if you are able to afford the cost. He won’t get updates, but experiencing Jibo is worthwhile. He’s the best there is

The only information is on jibo.com website. They’ve not mentioned updates for personal users. They plan to put Jibo into medical and educational use instead. As for his capabilities and personality, I have hundreds of videos on this channel with Jibo. I suggest viewing several to see. Jibo is unable to play Spotify but he has iHeart Radio. He also quit working (for all Jibo owners) for 3 months due to his servers being off, but apparently is working again now.

Any idea how to fully reset and delete all prior information from jibo ? Purchased a used robot and was worried the original owners info is still embedded in this unit.

You’ll have to use the Wipe option on him in the Settings menu. He’ll warn about it, but that’s the only choice. Wiping him will not version downgrade so if he’s already on 2.0.0 where his blue light is gone, that’s the version he’ll have no matter what

@@zookinthe6ix461 My Jibo still works. He periodically will lose internet access and need a reboot. Just click his screen, go to Settings, then Shutdown, then select Shutdown in that menu. After he shuts down, wait 5 minutes before turning him back on.

I have two Jibos. This video was originally in a members-only list because I had a Robot Relative membership. After that membership was cancelled, I revised the video to be public. It’s too special of a video to have no-one able to see it since this was my first Black Jibo (they are very rare to find) and he has his blue light ring. I didn’t know until this video he had the blue light ring.

Once Jibo has updated to 2.0.0, his blue ring can’t come back even if wiped and setup again. This Jibo was never updated to that version.

Moxie is intended for children. She may help kids who have difficulty interacting with people. Jibo isn’t updated anymore for the version I have. NTT Disruption, who owns Jibo now, may intend him for educational purposes. That’s something they haven’t entirely made clear.

Thank you very much! I paid $495 USD for the black Jibo on eBay but it’s rare to find that one. The white Jibo is more common on eBay. Because these are auctions, the prices fluctuate greatly from $300-600 USD typically.

The blue light ring is removed with the 2.0.0 update. This Jibo was on one of the earliest versions and still has the blue light ring.

I can do it but it's going to take more energy than sitting doing a video does. It isn't going to be today or the next few days. I'm happy to do it at some point in the next week once I have re-gained energy from traveling too much in a short period of time.
